Hello all, I am 3 days post OP, whenever I drink Water or the shakes after I swallowed and got to the stomach. My stomach started to rumble like it's gassy. And also feels like I need to pass gas, but even will have a bowel movement if I try to 🤷🏽‍♀️ what do I do?

I'm having my surgery on June 5th. My insurance had me do that whole dance of going to a therapist and nutritionist for several months before they approved it. I was cleared in April, and set my date for June so I could go on vacation and do a few other things before the surgery. It still had not sunk in that this was happened. Yesterday, I got email from my doctors office with what I needed to do next. Get my labs done, start my diet a week out, and my last appointment and class with my surgeon. That really hit, and I'm excited, and very nervous. My anxiety is at a 10 right now. I just got off the phone with the hospital and I paid them (bonus: I hit my out of pocket max for the year!), and now it's just really hitting hard. I don't think I've felt this much anxiety in years...and that says a lot since I'm an obsessive compulsive. So I need to really keep focused so I don't flip out and run away screaming. I'm guessing this is a normal reaction?

I am 4 weeks post op and just starting soft foods. I feel like it’s so vague and I hate that I can’t just get a structure for this but instead have to figure out what works for me. I feel like a fish out of Water and that I don’t know what to have. I dont know why I’m so confused by that?
my period is a week late and I’ve been spotting and extremely hormonal but it’s not here yet.
I have random thoughts running through my kind of regret. It’s not really regret it’s just more that I’m just feeling not confident and unsure and wonder how long that will last for and hoping it’s not just forever.
I’m still on anti nausea meds because I get it everyday.

am I normal? Do people have these struggles and worries? I have good moments where I can start to see my weightless which is exciting but everything seems so hard right now with a constant fight to get Protein in.

I was 375 when I started my weight loss journey. I was able to drop down to 341 and had my VSG 04.30.19.
I am now teetering 321-324 now.
As for clothes, I have dropped two shirt sizes. I was a 5xl and now fit 3xl.
DO NOT BUY NEW CLOTHES. GO THRIFT SHOPPING FOR CLOTHES.

The biggest shock for me post-surgery was realizing just how powerful head hunger is. At less than a week out I considered it a victory yesterday when I was able to eat two full popsicles over the course of a whole day in addition to my sips of Water. My stomach has been very adamant about telling me when I'm not ready for things or when I've had even one sip too many, so physical hunger hasn't been an issue at all. Head hunger has been an entirely different story, though.
I live with a roommate but have been staying with my mother and siblings for the first week post-op, and mentally I've been staring at homemade brownies, mac and cheese, Taco Bell, etc that they eat and craving them terribly. My mind says those things look delicious and tries to remind me how much I loved them before surgery, even when my body knows it would absolutely reject even a crumb of those things immediately at this stage.
But I suppose that's a big part of making this surgery successful. Those mental cravings probably aren't going to go away easily. It's a matter of separating mental hunger from physical hunger, listening to your body rather than your cravings, and making the choices that are going to lead to health rather than giving in to old habits; and those things are all easier said than done.

I actually had a failed bypass due to surgeon error. That was the worst mistake NOT making sure I had a surgeon who was right for me. Supposedly, the surgeon I had was top notch down here in Southern California, but he is an absolute quack!

Anyhow, my NEW surgeon opted me for VSG. I still wanted my bypass but thought of the benefits of VSG vs RNY. VSG has less Vitamin deficiency vs bypass patients. Yes, GERD CAN be a problem, but I haven't experienced any of that so far and I am 3 weeks post op. I feel great, less down time, and I would definitely do the VSG all over again vs RNY.

I'm only 2 months out but no regrets here. Sure I have had my days where I say to myself why did I do this. Then I remember I was on the road to diabetes, had high blood pressure, depressed, and in pain all the time. I'm still new to this so still working on the emotional part but everything else is gone. That is not to say this isn't hard, in fact this is the hardest thing I've ever had to do.

Let your doctor know. You could have caught c-diff. Even though you had your surgery in January, it is still possible. They will have you do stool samples and send them in for testing.

Try Premier Protein powder. The pre mixed ones are gross to me now after surgery, but premier Protein has 30 grams of protein, and I use unsweetened almond milk to make mine. Also PBfit is a lifesaver too. It is powdered Peanut Butter. I make my shakes into a choco peanut butter Protein Shake. Give it a try!

First of all. CONGRATS! Second. Breathe! Make sure you have comfy clothes, non slip slippers and FOLLOW DOCTORS ORDERS. also. If you ever have to cough or sneeze after surgery. Use a pillow and place it over your stomach beforehand. It will help. Also, ask them for a binder. It's like a girdle. It will become your best friend during recovery. LET US KNOW HOW YOU DO!

Laughing cow cheese, cottage cheese, triple zero yogurt, and eggs. I also supplement with Protein Shakes. I gag at the thought of having any more broth.

I had VSG on 5/7/19. So I am almost one week post op. All I had heard before I decided to get the surgery and all the way up to my surgery date was how you will never be hungry. Idk what these people are talking about because I have been hungry since I woke up from surgery! It has definitely been rough the past week. Anyone else have this struggle? 😞
