I have PCOS, and I had VSG on 2/6/19. Believe me, I had this fear in the back of my mind all the way up until the day I had surgery. This fear still nags at me, but I am 14wks post-op and am down 36lbs from the day of my consult, which was less than a month before my surgery date. I just had my 3m follow-up with my surgeon today and met the goal he set for the appt (168lbs). I'm still scared that it's all too good to be true and that the weight will just come back, but I'm working hard to make sure that doesn't happen.

I'm 28 and just had VSG in February, which was right after my bday. The only person that said anything about my age was my mother, who has also been overweight my whole life and was the last person I expected to get s*** from since she knows my history.

VSG_Me_2019 got a reaction from Carrot64 in Is there anything you wish you knew before surgery?
I wish I had known how real the struggle would be with constipation... lol TMI maybe, but I'm sure most people who have had the surgery would agree.
I was someone who NEVER had issues pre-surgery, so I was surprised when I had to start using products to go. It makes sense, but it wasn't on the list of things I talked about with my surgeon pre-op haha.

I didn't get it out of medical necessity- the only weight-related condition I have is PCOS. I got it because I've been fat literally as long as I can remember, and I told myself that 2019 would be the year I did something about it once and for all. I had tried sooooo many different things, but I always regained lost weight and then some. So I had surgery 2/6/19, and I am so happy I did. I have a 5 yr old son, which was one of my biggest motivations for getting the surgery to lose the weight, and I can finally run around with him and do stuff with him and not be instantly tired.

I didn't buy any special dishes or measuring devices since I have a 5yr old and just use his plates and bowls now haha. I stocked up on Protein Shakes (Premiere Protein is my fav, but Muscle Milk is okay too), Gatorade/Powerade Zero, Propel Water, and Soups.

I had my surgery August 21 of last year, my surgery weight was 294 today I’m 219. Starting weight was 311. I am happy and content, because I feel so much better than I felt at my heaviest! Sometimes we like to compare our numbers with everyone else, but everyone has separate journeys. First picture is current of me, I recently fit into size 14 pants! I was wearing size 24 pants day of surgery! Second pic, I’m the one in the middle. I can’t stand to look at it! :(

VSG_Me_2019 reacted to TexasMommy80 in 14 months out - Just a quick update.
Hi everyone! I used to post on here pretty regularly, but I have not updated any of my information in a really long time. As of today, I am just about 14 months post VSG. I currently weight 173 pounds after starting at 241 pounds, My personal goal is to weight under 169, so that is my immediate goal right now. I have been stalled at around 176 for the past few months, but that stall was my own fault. I wasn't tracking my food and I was eating a lot of junk. When I start grazing, it is pretty amazing how quickly my calories can add up! The past few weeks I have really tried to pay attention to whether I was eating because I was hungry, or because I was bored, stressed, etc. Now since I am back to tracking, I have dropped 3 pounds, and I also feel so much better.
One of the things that I have really noticed is how I tend to eat more according to my emotions, and I have really made an effort to work on that. I have been trying to replace food with exercise, and I think that has helped tremendously. I played soccer in HS and college, so exercise has been a HUGE part of my life. I am not sure why I let that slip the past few months, but I did. So adding the stresses of my personal life and the grazing in the kitchen, it is easy to understand why my weight stayed at 176 for so long. And speaking of my personal life, y'all...it has been a sh*t show! LoL sorry for the language, but that is the best way to describe it. At the very end of October, my dad went to the doctor for a physical because he had been feeling tired. Two weeks later, he was gone. He had stage 4 liver cancer that had spread all over his body. Soon after he died, we found out that he had abnormal blood results for at least 2 years, and his primary care doctor never ordered additional testing. It was a hard pill to swallow. I have also had issues in my 6-year relationship, and I am at a point where I don't know how much more I can take. I have stayed for our daughter, but I feel so unappreciated. Perhaps that makes me selfish, but I feel like I am just "convenient" for my significant other, and that is the extent of our relationship. We basically live like roommates, we don't sleep in the same bed, nothing physical goes on between us, he hardly speaks to me...we have become roommates and we have been like this for more than a year. But I cook, clean, and take care of the kids...so I feel like he has no issues with the way we live. It just makes me sad, I am really struggling with it right now.
Anyhow, I hope everyone is doing well! I am so glad that I had the VSG. I am surprised at how much I am able to eat, yet I love that I am satisfied so with much less food. It was the best decision I could make!

    Hello,

I just now found this place. Better late than never I guess. on July 9th 2018 I weighed 508lbs. I am a 38 year old male who is 6'1. At the end of my rope I didn't know where to turn next. It was during one frustrated exchange with the CEO at my work during lunch that he asked why I didn't consider a weight loss surgery. I quickly replied I had, but the companies insurance didn't cover it. He made a promise to me that if I gave it my best shot he would make sure it was covered. I began working with my primary on the referral while he began working with our health insurance. Our plan year rolled on January 1 and the Sleeve and Bypass were included. I started with the local weight and wellness center in November and in May I completed the 6 months of required program required by the insurance. I am scheduled for the Sleeve on Monday June 10th 2019. As of today I am 428 lbs. I have been doing the two weeks of 3 Protein Shakes with a small 300 calorie meal as ordered by my nutritionist and have stuck to it rigidly.

So Monday's the big day. I have been given 4 weeks off paid from my work for recovery and now my nerves are kicking up. In seek of actual stories about what the days after surgery were like I asked my trusted friend google which lead me here. I have been reading everything for the past two days and I kind of wish my program had pointed me in this direction sooner.

Today is the first day of the rest of my life. Had mt gastric sleeve operation today and for the most of today have been feeling shitty - nauseous, lightheaded but otherwise happy its finally done and now it is slowly going up. I expect some downs but still it feels like the part I was scared the most of is finally over.

I liked regular Water a lot more before surgery too, and I used to prefer it cold. Now it hurts my stomach if it's too cold, and I have to add some kind of flavor mix a lot of the time.

VSG_Me_2019 got a reaction from Ruth9454 in Energy after surgery?
I had VSG on 2/6/19, and I can definitely say I have a lot more energy now than I did before surgery. I'm sure that's due to various factors, but the point is that even with the extremely reduced calorie intake I'm feeling good. Before surgery I was tired ALL THE TIME. I have hypothyroidism and PCOS (plus a 5yr old who likes to wake me up in the middle of the night still), but even right after surgery I could tell a difference in my energy level. I get B12 shots from my surgeons office monthly, so that probably helps too.

OMG! I'm so happy I could dance down the street naked! I FINALLY made it to Onederland today, 5 months post-op sleeve.
I've been stuck in a stall for five weeks, teasing me at 202 and so close but so stuck and I thought I was never going to lose another ounce for a minute or two.
But now I'm finally a LOSER! Yay! So excited! Now I feel like the scale will keep moving and it can go down to meet my goal.
So glad to be in the 100's again!
