KatieMc got a reaction from Frustr8 in Post OP care in us after surgery in Mexico
Great to hear that - I've got my surgery lined up there on July 2, can't wait! What kind of guidelines did they give for walking/exercise etc for the first two months?
@Katieshmay: My insurance doesn't pay for bariatric surgery, but wherever you go should offer phone follow-up for a few months so you can ask if something is normal or needs a doctor. I would recommend staying in Tijuana or wherever you end up for longer than the minimum (usually 2-3 days) just in case a problem does arise. Your surgeon will take care of it as part of the package, versus going to a hospital or doctor in the US and needing a second mortgage to pay the bill.

Willingness to treat you and follow up after out of the country surgery depends on your doctor, and does vary greatly doctor to doctor. You need to consult with your primary care physician to see if they are willing to do this, and if not, find a different primary care physician before your surgery.

    Great question!
But I'll tell you it may be a matter entirely of perception.
Healthy = thin vs Unhealthy= overweight
i just met someone who is naturally (and always will be) lean, that is not on the same healthy eating journey, doesn't have strict eating habits. It can be just as tough.
But I'm not sure every part of life needs to be shared with a partner. I certainly never expected my then partner to complete research with me during my college years, or travel extensively with me to places they had no interest in. Why focus on this to bind/bond us.
    BUT
maybe that's why I'm single!?!?! LOL

Hi everyone! First time posting! My surgery will be July 10th! So excited and nervous. My biggest fear is that it won't work. I've dieted all my life and while I can always lose weight, I always gain it back and I think I've messed up my metabolism so bad. I can survive on nothing, so I'm scared the surgery won't help that much. I know it probably sounds irrational, but that's my biggest fear, aside from dying of course and leaving my children with my ex....

Pre-op diet starts in just a few days (VSG on July 2), I'm so nervous about hunger headaches because it'll be a constant struggle not to put an end to them with a stack of something carby.

I take 1500mg per day. I usually break them up 500mg 3X per day. My current preference is calcium chews in fruit flavors.

You shouldn't take Calcium within 2 hours of taking Iron, or iron containing Multivitamins. It affects the absorption. I take a multi in the early morning. Then calcium at about 8 am, 11 m, 3pm, and another Multivitamin at 7 pm. Hope this helps.

I'm scheduled for the sleeve on July 2. My insurance doesn't cover bariatric surgery, so while I didn't have to jump through approval hoops, I get the bonus stress of having it done in Mexico. Actually the only real point of stress for me there is flying 5 hours home 3 days after surgery.

You should have some fear of course. It’s normal. Im 2 weeks post op, and even when the pain was the worst I don’t regret this. That doesn’t mean it’s been mentally easy even these first few weeks but I am so excited to “start over” my relationship with food and teach myself to eat only what is good for me, nutritious and in the best interest of my health. I already feel better and have more energy so I can’t imagine how I will feel in 3 months or 6 or 12. I would do it again in a minute. And I wish I had done it sooner.

    Hello,

I just now found this place. Better late than never I guess. on July 9th 2018 I weighed 508lbs. I am a 38 year old male who is 6'1. At the end of my rope I didn't know where to turn next. It was during one frustrated exchange with the CEO at my work during lunch that he asked why I didn't consider a weight loss surgery. I quickly replied I had, but the companies insurance didn't cover it. He made a promise to me that if I gave it my best shot he would make sure it was covered. I began working with my primary on the referral while he began working with our health insurance. Our plan year rolled on January 1 and the Sleeve and Bypass were included. I started with the local weight and wellness center in November and in May I completed the 6 months of required program required by the insurance. I am scheduled for the Sleeve on Monday June 10th 2019. As of today I am 428 lbs. I have been doing the two weeks of 3 Protein Shakes with a small 300 calorie meal as ordered by my nutritionist and have stuck to it rigidly.

So Monday's the big day. I have been given 4 weeks off paid from my work for recovery and now my nerves are kicking up. In seek of actual stories about what the days after surgery were like I asked my trusted friend google which lead me here. I have been reading everything for the past two days and I kind of wish my program had pointed me in this direction sooner.

I haven’t told many people at my work that I was having surgery. I have been an MA 20 years and currently work in a dr’s office and get along well with everyone (most of the time) I have seen and heard very judgmental things be said before about overweight people and subsequently WLS. Today one of the RN’s walked in on a conversation that I was having with the person who will be covering for me. She looked at me like I had two heads and I said to her “that is exactly why I have not told people”. She said fine, I want to lecture but I won’t, I will just say I hope it goes well for you!!
My surgery is tomorrow morning and now I am having such anxiety, why do people think that we take this decision lightly. I have been doing research on this issue since 2015. I was in my last month of supervised diet in April of 2015 when my mom was diagnosed with cancer and died on May 5, 2015. I am so glad I didn’t go through with it then, I wasn’t ready. I have let 3 years pass and have done some serious work on “me” and I am ready now! I just wanted to vent, to not hold this negativity in when I go for my surgery tomorrow morning. Thank you for listening ❤️

I only packed my charger, a little extension cord, headphones, deodorant and a change of underwear. I wore sweats to the hospital and that's what I planned to wear home. The only thing I ended up using was the deodorant and the change of panties.

They put me in my room at 10 am and I didn't turn my phone back on till midnight. They were giving me IV pain meds and I was in and out all day. So I didn't need the charger, the headphones or extension cord. I wore their slippers to walk in and took them off when I got back in bed. They gave me Gas X, face wash, a tooth brush and tooth paste.

    Good luck with your surgery!
