May 7th in Delaware USA. It’s getting real.

I am 5'2", starting weight was 213 at my first doctor appointment. I have lost 20 lbs waiting for insurance approval & with their good graces I will have my surgery May 16th. I am doing the gastric sleeve. I have sleep apnea, & borderline HBP. I just want to feel better, to be able to get up off the floor or to cross my legs. Its not about being skinny, its about being healthy.
  3. Congrats!

SO EXCITED, I had to tell someone! Got approval from insurance yesterday and my surgery date moved up to May 7th! Started my pre-op diet yesterday as well! I can't believe its happening! Wish me luck with these darn high Protein Meal Replacement shakes! Two weeks of these seems very daunting. If you would, please leave me any words of encouragement or advice you have for surgery, I sure could use it!

Cameo325 got a reaction from FluffyChix in Was anyone else told not to shave their legs 4 days before surgery?
yes, told not to shave anything a week prior so there is no chance of any "open wounds" which could be prone to infection.

To cross my legs. To get up off the floor without help from a piece of furniture. To wear a belt. To tuck in my shirt. To play with my grandkids (once they get here). To put on my pants without falling over. The list could go on, these just come to mind immediately.

Yep, my weight loss doesn’t match up to others who did it roughly the same time. I’m older, lower starting weight and have a crappy metabolism. I have absolutely stuck to the plan though and lost over 35 pounds since 1/22. Is it earth shattering? No, but it’s not a race. This journey is for life

There are far too many variables to give you a solid answer. These are the things that determine how fast someone loses:
How much weight they need to lose: The heavier the person, the quicker and larger the losses.
Gender: Men lose much faster and more efficiently than women. Damn them!
Age: The older you are, the slower your metabolism is.
Medical Issues: Does the person have outlying medical issues that require medication that can cause slower losses or are they restricted from regular exercise?
Compliance to the program: Not meaning whether you’re following your new lifestyle absolutely perfectly, but whether you’ve honed in on what ultimately is working perfectly for YOU. If you stall out or aren’t losing as quickly as you feel you should be, don’t be afraid to change things up! Know your macros; how much Protein, calories, carbs, etc do you need to be losing weight consistently. Adjust when needed ( and it will be needed periodically). Some people ditch most carbs, some people keep a certain amount of healthy carbs in their diet. Whatever works for them.

Comparison is the thief of joy. If you understand the reasons why some lose faster and more efficiently than others, you’ll be less apt to beat yourself up about it.

No weight loss since August isn't really a plateau anymore, it's just eating maintenance. Nobody besides people with dwarfism or very short coma patients will maintain on 1000 calories so your counts are likely wrong.

For calorie counting to work, you have to weigh or measure every single thing that passes your lips. No eyeballing portion sizes or mindlessly snacking on something and forgetting about it. If you're honest about it and still don't lose weight, get in touch with CERN because your body has figured out how to conjure energy from the Aether and they'd love to study you.

As a paramedic, you don't have anything to worry about with your current weight! I've had all ranges of ages and weights. Average weight of the patients I transport is about 250lbs. Our standard stretcher is rated to 750lbs and our bariatric stretcher is rated to 1600lbs. We can, and will, lift you!

I couldn't fit in the buckles when riding the go karts with my kids and they were adult sized. I paid for my ticket, got my helmet, waited in line for 30 minutes, got to my kart and couldn't buckle in.
Then came the walk of shame back to return my helmet and wait for my kids to finish in front of dozens of people. It was humiliating.
By the end of this summer I hope to go back there like when Superman got his powers back in Superman 2 and went to beat the crud out of that bully at the bar. Total redemption...

I take two psych meds, and was told that as long as they were not extended release I could take them right away. I've had no problems taking them, and they seem just as effective as begire surgery. Im 19 days post surgery.

This thread is so important! I just read the most disheartening blog post from someone who had a very difficult time post-op, written one month after her surgery. If I had read it before I had committed to this road, it would have terrified me to the point of turning back.
I love hearing your successes and knowing that the rough stuff isn't the norm. I'm going into this with my eyes wide open, but I'm expecting good things.
