Am I the oldest? I'm 73 and will hopefully have the sleeve done in Feb. My story is similar to everyone's: yo-yoed my entire adult life, losing and gaining overweight but not obese. Nine years ago I developed an autoimmune disease which is controlled by steroids. Long term steroid therapy is like having another disease. Besides potential diabetes, increased risk of infection (thankfully I have not developed), what affects weight is increased appetite, slower metabolism, and redistribution of weight (belly fat). For the past eight years I have been well over 225 lb and it is next to impossible to lose. I also have high blood pressure and sleep apnea. My PCP and Hematologist as well as other Drs feel that I am a good candidate for the sleeve. My goal is to obviously lose weight but also to have a tool for me to eat less for the rest of my life.I want to be able to get down on the floor to play with my grandchildren, have energy for my passions and to take a brisk walk. In short I want quality of life for whatever years I have left.I have completed all the requirements and am waiting to be scheduled. I have researched alot about bariatric surgery really enjoy reading these posts. I am especially impressed that so many of you have exceeded your weight loss goals. I anticipate that I will be a slow loser due to my age and the steroids but I am prepared and committed for the journey.

I had surgery January 16th for hiatel hernia closure and at same time my gastric sleeve surgery was converted to the bypass cause my stomach kept getting lodged in the hernia. I have the symptoms of an anastomotic leakage, pain in left shoulder area off and on while eating and have to stop eating rare back in seat until it stops. For last 3 days it's done this while eating. So I googled that question and it said an anastomotic leakage is what this symptom comes from.

Thanks for the great info! Good luck with your revision surgery! 😊
FYI - I had a LINX Reflux Management device implanted in March 2015, so a couple of years before MGB surgery (April 2017); it helped for 18 months and then acid reflux returned in Oct 2016. As part of my July 2018 abdominal surgery to resolve bile reflux, I also had the LINX device removed since it wasn’t useful and even more importantly, because the one I had was recalled by the FDA in April 2018. I have a family history of esophageal cancer so minimizing/eliminating GERD is paramount to my long term health. Thankfully, I’m doing very well now. 👏

I'm still losing but slowly I think I'll get to 180lbs but that's about it then I plan to start a regime of weights and stuff to try build some muscle tone and deal with some belly flab.
    comments very much appreciated!!!

Thank you for the welcome. I am mostly walking and using my elliptical a couple times a week. I was really hoping to get back to running, but my doctor doesn't think this is a good idea unless I am prepared to have a knee replacement sooner rather then later. I was pretty slow the first 6 weeks and have just really got back to purposefully walking the past 2 weeks.
So I just haven't done much to replace my running and I have just been stuck. I am now facing rotator cuff surgery on my left shoulder and I need to pull myself together and stop feeling like my body is falling apart. There are many people facing worse in their lives and I have much to be thankful for.
I definitely don't want to let these injuries be the start of a slip back so the first thing I thought to do was get back here and read. The support is welcome and needed.
I know what to do. I need to keep carbs under 50g a day and eat Protein first. I need to get my calories under 1300 and get back into the habit of tracking and weighing myself daily. I got complacent when I was running because I could eat more carbs and still maintain a good blood sugar level and my weight stayed low without much effort. I don't want to go back to where I was 4 years ago so I am setting a goal of losing this extra 12 pounds over the next 2 months and then figuring out how to maintain at 150-155 with the level of exercise my body is comfortable with now.

It could still be your nerves healing from the surgery. You may want to give your dr a call just to be sure.

I've been eating 1/4 - 1/3 of the Lavash bread instead of 1/2 (serving size)
    How much do you use?

And also i notice if the liquid is really cold it tends to cramp my stomach. My cousin had the duodenal switch and she noticed the same with cold. So i have settled for room temp.

Surgery went great. I’m home resting now. So far have not had any nausea except for at the hospital once. I drink in 15 min intervals and 30min before and after eating. I have been walking on the inside of my home to decrease chance of blood clots and help with the gas. The stomach binder really helps. So before you purchase one ask your surgeon If the hospital can provide one. I asked the morning of and woke up with it on. Thanks for the prayers and well wishes

I agree since you are allowed Jello and Protein Shakes it should be fine. I used to freeze my shakes and eat them with a spoon like ice cream. It helped me to stick to the diet.

Losingit2018 got a reaction from Uomograsso in How many calories are you supposed to eat 2 months post-op?
I was only getting about 400 calls per day for about the first 6 weeks. I track my macros in mfp and just started trying hard to increase the calories with healthy options and it has been working well. I get in about 600-700 calories now and am continuing to lose weight weekly.

It will work if you take daily. It may take a few days to work because it is so gentle though.

My husband ordered a box of mixed Quest bars like two years ago or so. He found at least some of them palatable (but he didn't use the word "delicious" and didn't order them again, lol).
I thought they all tasted vile, like being artificial sweetener only, even though I tried the microwave trick.

After 5 years of being sleeved? I had my sleeve checked last week and "no stretch." However, I have learned how to eat around my sleeve. Things that could go through easily and not cause as much GERD. Knowing that, I have stopped. After my last procedure I eat less and healthier. I have lost almost 20 pounds in just over a month.

I am 5 pounds away from hitting the 100 pound list mark. I had horrible pain I. My knees, hands, elbows and feet from arthritis. I was taking tumeric with bioperine and it worked amazing well for inflammation.
now that I am nearly 100 pounds down, I don’t even need the turmeric anymore!
i t just got cold where I live the past few days. I do feel a little achy in my knees now but nowhere near what it used to be. I am sure that my knees are damaged from carrying so much weight around though. I truly think that I was close to needing one knee replaced before losing the weight. I don’t feel that way anymore.
while you are trying to lose, do yourself a favor and try the turmeric. Just be sure that it has at least 10 mg of bioperine ( black pepper) in it and is 95% curcuminoids. Give it a week ir two of taking daily and you will be amazed what a simple spice can do for inflammation
    Good luck on your journey!!
