GradyCat got a reaction from Ash-stonishing in Pre surgery fears
Surgery is just a tool and won't help you with the head hunger or choosing wrong foods to eat or night eating. Have you thought about going to the group therapy classes offered by your surgeon's office? The head hunger is more of a battle than physical hunger.

Stick to the liquid diet, it's SO IMPORTANT to make sure your liver is not too large for the surgery. And congrats on quitting smoking, it's the best decision you'll have ever made.

GradyCat got a reaction from Healthy_life2 in weight Regain after gastric sleeve
You know how to eat. The bariatric plate is 1/2 Protein, 1/4 veggies and 1/4 grains and you're supposed to start with the protein and not move on to the next part of the plate if you're full. Keep portion sizes to 1/2 cup. Avoid a lot of starches and sugars. You've got this. You can do this.

GradyCat got a reaction from Carrot64 in Dealing with emotional eating etc.
I have been an emotional eater all of my life . . . until I had the sleeve surgery six months ago. Now I've worked so hard at being mindful about what I'm eating and wanting so hard to lose weight that I catch myself when I have an emotional event in my life and don't give in to the cravings. I know the surgery itself helped with the physical hunger, but the impact of having undergone a major surgery must have also helped with the head hunger because I'm determined not to give in to it.

People are strange, aren't they? But I guess it's good they aren't barking at us when we're fat, but they should keep their mouths shut when we've lost weight as well. Rule of thumb: never talk about someone's weight, good or bad.

GradyCat got a reaction from FluffyChix in Bariatric Emergency Kit
I had disappointing news yesterday that I was going to need two crowns on my teeth costing $1800. At first I thought of "comfort food" but thankfully those feelings went away quickly and I recognized that this wasn't a problem that was going to be solved by food and that I just needed to deal with my dental issues. It worked, I didn't eat anything in a panic!

It sounds like he did everything he could to accommodate you and make you happy. Why not just wear something you're comfortable in and go to the graduation?

Good that you are working on this stuff now! It can only increase the odds of your success post surgery.
I think working with a therapist to develop a set of behaviors that are grounded in CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) could provide great help. Also EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and other programed designed to develop mindfulness and fascilitate behavior modification helps a lot.
Also, getting into an exercise program that is a guided program where you have accountability.
Having a local WLS support group is IMHO imperative.
Having follow-up visits with your RD post surgery for accountability.
Starting your weight loss diet now (your forever healthy diet).
Having a creative hobby/outlet.
Getting your support network aligned.
Breaking up with any known addictions (caffeine, high glycemic carbs, sugar, white things, excessive fruit/fruit juices, sweets, smoking, drugs)
Having a very clear view that you ARE choosing long-term change. There is no going back.
Yoga and Tai Chi.
These are all things that help. Also awareness/education. Learn/read and study your research!

GradyCat got a reaction from Frustr8 in Jogging under clothes
That's a good question because Shapewear would be too confining and sweaty for jogging. Do you wear full coverage brief underwear? What about bicycle shorts, they're spandex and would hold things in.

GradyCat got a reaction from Carrot64 in Feeling "weepy" & sad
I am six months post-op and have clinical depression. I went through a small "cycle" of depression about a month ago with no apparent trigger, although it could have been surgery-hormone-related, but it's cleared up now. Hang in there.

GradyCat got a reaction from Lorelli65 in Stalled at almost 7 months
Stalls happen. It sounds like you're not in a stall though, you're eating/drinking sugary things that are high in calories. Go back to counting your calories and tracking everything you eat. Focus on Protein.
