Yes your taste buds, & for some their sense of smell, can go a bit haywire after surgery & be very sensitive to certain tastes &/or smells. You may discover there will be other foods you always liked that suddenly taste disgusting, have no flavour at all or turn your tummy. It does pass. When my sensitivity for chilli & curry worsened to a full intolerance years ago the smell used to make me feel ill. Curry was the worst (& they had curry cook offs at work once a month & the smell would permeate the whole office through the air conditioning. Ugh!!!). It was like the smell was a warning not to eat it because it would make me sick. My chilli & curry intolerance is forever but as I said your current aversion to certain foods will pass. Treat the aversion as a warning that maybe your tummy isn’t ready for it yet.
    Congrats on your surgery.

I work 12 hr shifts so I have to plan for the whole day. My plan was pretty routine at first. I drink a Protein Shake on the way to work. My next meal is yogurt with a few blueberries or strawberries. My favorite yogurt is Fage plain greek with one tablespoon (or less) of sugar free, fat free Jello pudding powder (white chocolate or cheesecake are my faves) and one packet of truvia per serving. My next meal is the prepackaged flavored tuna mixed with a little fat free mayo and eaten on Crunchmaster crackers, usually about 5. Initially I could not finish all of this at each meal but now I can. Early on my Snacks were things that I could eat quick like cheese sticks or beef sticks...things I could carry in my pocket. Now my snacks are those things still but I've added bananas and Peanut Butter crackers or slices of lunchmeat.
Now that I'm 3 yrs out, I don't necessarily have the tuna as much. Often it's left overs from a restaurant I went to or something I cooked on my days off.
I work 3 days a week so those 3 days my food plan is easy. I make sure to have variety on my nonwork days.

It seems like you think you will lose the joy of being in control of your body if you have the surgery. For me, RNY was another tool to help me be in control of my eating.

My recovery was fairly easy. I had the "foamies" a couple of times from eating too much or too fast. Some foods felt bad in my stomach initially but I just put them on the list of "try again later." eggs were probably the hardest to reintroduce. No matter how I ate them, boiled, fried, scrambled , I felt like I ate a rock. It was at least a year before I could eat them comfortably. After about 6 months I could eat most anything I chose to eat in small portions. I had very little pain after surgery. The worst part was finding out I was allergic to the surgical staples and had horrible dermatitis around each incision. I thought I would scratch my skin off. Removing the staples and a little hydrocortisone cream cured that. I was a slow loser but I tried not to compare myself to others. I just told myself, it will happen eventually! I never had a stall, all the way to goal. Now, almost 3 yrs later, I continue to follow the guidelines I was given, track my Protein and have had no problem maintaining my weight. Sometimes I'll look at "junk food" and have absolutely no desire to eat it. All I have to do is look in a mirror and I think to myself, "I'd rather look like this than taste that!" I've now paid for 2 skin removal plastic surgeries (a lot of money) also and don't want to undo the progress I've made there!
I don't think you have to suffer to have great results. There is nothing wrong with having a smooth course. I've had 4 surgeries in the last 3 yrs and have followed "doctors orders" with each one and had great successful recoveries. I just don't dwell on any little "bumps in the road" in the process. With time it all works out. For me, best decision ever!

...muscle weight that is. I'm in the gym 6 days a week. I decided to bulk up because wasn't happy with being slim and slender. I went from 175 to 205 and haven't went up in clothing size. This is the same shirt in both pictures. I love filling out my shirts now..lol.

Took my 18 y.o. to their very first concert on 9/10/21 for an early birthday gift... went to see Between the Buried and me. Their all time favorite group.. (heavy metal). They just turned 18 this past weekend. We had a blast.
I purchased this outfit from hot topic back in August. Its a Junior's XL. And by the time I got to wear it, it was a bit large on me. But over the 30 day exchange period. But that's OK. I did go back to HT and buy another cute skirt to wear to Badflower in a couple of weeks...a junior size L. I cannot wait for that show because the following morning s my skin removal surgery !!

I just remind myself that I'm choosing not to eat "junk" food.
I think sometimes we compare ourselves to alcoholics or drug addicts when we are food addicts. We say things like alcoholics or drug addicts never have to have alcohol or drugs ever again to break their addiction but we have to have food. I know in my case, my addiction was sugar and junk foods and that's probably what got me to my highest weight. Now I try my best to avoid those and so far it's working. I just remind myself I never want to go back there! Whenever someones asks me, "can you eat this on your diet?" I tell them, "I'm not on a diet. I can eat anything I choose to eat...I choose not to eat that."

That looks great on you! I think I have one just like it but in pink. Living in Florida, I have worn nothing but sundresses and T-shirt dresses all summer because I don't have the legs for shorts. I'm starting to go from the fuller kind like that to the more fitted kind too because just like you said, well, because I can! Isn't it great to be able to?

So, I refuse to say that I will never have treats again. I’m just very, very, choosy about when and how much of a treat I’ll have. I’m pretty good about avoiding candy but I’m a big baker. Now when I bake Cookies I’ll give them all away save 1-2 and have no more than 1 cookie a day if I keep 2. I made a tiramisu when I was home at my parents this summer and I cut myself a piece that was maybe 2 inches long by 1 inch wide (about 1/4 of a slice of everyone else’s). My philosophy is that complete restrictions are bad and can actually make things worse, at least for me. I live alone so I don’t have to worry about others bringing treats in the house. But I’ve found some willpower - I have half a bag of Hershey kisses left from when I baked some Peanut Butter kiss cookies for a friend (of which I kept one for myself) - that was probably 2 months ago and I haven’t had a single Hershey kiss since - if I’m going to have a piece of chocolate on its own, it needs to be some good gourmet chocolate. Now I won’t be in the country for Thanksgiving but for Christmas I will definitely have a small dessert - this is not a diet, this is how I plan to live the rest of my life! And I make sure to get my Protein in to help balance anything I have (and I log everything so I know where I am on macros at all times).

I think of it like this. How does everything I eat fit into the plan. Am I getting Protein from it? Is it high in sugar or carbs? Am I getting any nutritional value from it? If not, it is simply too high a price to pay. Thinking from a money analogy, if a piece of cake cost $100, you would do without it, simply not worth it. The same logic is how I treat those foods high in fat, calories and carbs. Not worth the price my body pays. Need a snack? Find something that provides some benefit to you.

My responses are pretty similar to everyone else. When asked how much I usually say "a lot" or "more than I weigh." If they insist on a number I just say "more than 100 lbs." When they ask how I say "a lot of hard work" or "complete lifestyle change." When they ask about diet, it's "high Protein, low carb, small portions." And for those people that insist, "one donut isn't going to hurt you," I say, "no thank you, I broke my sugar addiction and I'm never going back there...I know what it does to me!"
