JessLess got a reaction from sizemedown in Considering getting a gastric sleeve
It's much better than it was, and my capacity to eat is less. I count calories and come on here almost every day to remind myself what motivated me to get the surgery and lose the weight. There was a support group at my hospital, but with COVID, it's online and not as motivating.

I take meds and Vitamins with the sleeve and I never had problems swallowing them. I take Claritin D 24 and Women's One a Day vitamins, which are both pretty big without issue. I could take one of my medications that's medium large the day after surgery.

a 10-20 lb gain during year three is VERY common. I'm five years out and still there - and I have to fight like heck just to keep it there - 20 lbs heavier than my lowest weight!
I've pretty much given up on losing those 20 lbs because it would take cutting back a lot on my calories, which I'm apparently not willing to do. But...that's what it takes.

Thank you both very much! I'm in a good place right now, but I had read that post surgery depression can get worse. I'll make sure to keep in close contact with my psychiatric team throughout and after surgery. My main depression obstacle right now is an extreme lack of energy and a lot of sleeping. My mood is fine, and I'm sure it could simply be the weight that's so draining.

In order to have the best chance of success, I tried to ensure that my symptoms of depression and anxiety were well managed before surgery. I also continued to work with my psychologists and psychiatrists.
I think it's helpful to remember that WLS or losing weight won't magically solve all your problems. It's quite common to go through relationship issues (divorce rates are statistically higher according to most bariatric studies) and even transference to other addition issues (you can go from food to alcohol or even opiates). I think it's also quite easy to slip into orthorexia (an eating disorder that involves an unhealthy obsession with healthy eating).
On the other hand, losing weight can be great for your mental health. You can find self esteem and confidence that you have been missing your whole life. I definitely put myself "out there" more.
I think everyone's journey is different. Best of luck!

I was stable with treated anxiety and depression before and am now, almost 2 years later. The surgery didn't make much of a difference, but my depression pre-exists my gaining a lot of weight. I think it's predominantly chemical/genetic.

Too bad. My ex-coworkers didn't know I had surgery, they just thought I dieted and had the decency to be nice about my weight loss to my face. Maybe not telling co-workers should be considered by pre-surgery readers?

I've always wanted to feel attractive.
I've always wanted to be a normal weight for my height.
I've always wanted relief from chronic pain syndrome. (This has not been resolved by the weight loss )

evidently that poster doesn't know many of us. Several of us "several degreed" people are on here... Not sure how this really matters, though.

I'm male 6ft0 started at 322 got to 165 then lowest of 162.8 but still around 164-165 most days...
I'm amazed you only got to 170 for your height & by the BMI chart you should be able to get to like 140? But I guess everyone has different metabolism...

You've done an amazing job! You've lost over 125 lbs.! Please be happy for your accomplishments and while you work to get where you want to be, don't make less than total perfection the enemy of succeeding, because you ARE succeeding.

I think you just need to get through the first month or two, and focus on getting your Protein and Water down. As you get further in the process, more foods will be available for you, albeit in much smaller portions (which is good). Look at the thread "Food Before & After Photos", there are so many ideas of what people are eating post surgery. It DOES get easier each day! Hang in there!

Only you (plus your body & team to a certain extent) will decide your food choices before or after WLS ♥️

I hope you start feeling better soon. You did great work losing so much weight, it's a huge accomplishment.
As for foods to eat while nauseous, can you reach out to your original dietician that you saw before your surgery, if you saw one? Or find one now? It sounds like getting back on some Vitamin and mineral-rich food with Protein that you can tolerate would help.
