  1. We are only a day apart, I was 16th. I'm getting better altho the black sticky poo and intestinal growling I could do without [emoji853]
  2. Are you sipping small amounts really slowly? Don't take too big a gulp. I'm going into my third day after surgery and am a bit scared of the milk protein shakes but water is OK for me if I take it nice and slow.
  3. Phew, altho a bit startling
  4. Congratulations! I'm just out of surgery too. The first hours are not fun, I won't lie, but it seems to get better day by day
  5. Thanks lads! Oh my goodness, though, the noises that are coming from my body. Is this normal? I sound like a symphony orchestra warming up all over??
  6. I did it! I'm out the other side of surgery, this is my second full day post-op. After surgery I felt like a donkey had kicked me, yesterday I felt like it was just a large dog. Today, a small terrier, maybe. So you just have to get through the first 24—48 sucky hours and then it will be OK! Also my suggestion is ask for all the pain relief drugs they are willing to give you. Does make a difference! I'm on liquids now but in the hospital they gave me Dutch Rusks to actually eat which was beyond weird. I never thought I'd be eating anything for a month. But I'd brought over enough protein shake powders to keep a small army travelling so that's what I'm having for brekkie, lunch and tea now. All the best UmmYasmin
  7. Yay - goodo I think ppl can join relatively easily. I'm off for my surgery tomorrow morning God-willing but there are others there that should be able to join new members
  8. Just bear in mind lads, I'm traveling today coz I'm having my surgery soon. So if anyone else would like to administer it as well do let me know
  9. I've set one up as October2018BypassBuddies closed group. So if you ask to join I can approve you
  10. Me too. If no-one has set one up, I'll do it tommoz (I'm in bed at mo)
  11. Me - I'm having mine on Tue but to mini bypass (only one anastomosis)
  12. You sound pretty perky! Here's to your recovery!
  13. Ooooh I'm in Ireland too. Congrats on your surgery. I'm going to Belgium for mine on the 16th God willing.
  14. Oh woops, my bad. Im having the mgb. I wondered why I hadn't seen this thread before. D'oh.
  15. I'm close by, Ireland here but I'm having my surgery in Belgium
  16. I'm October 16 *waving hello from across the pond*
  17. Ooh what was it like diluting them with protein powder. I'm guessing it wasn't one of the Creamy type ones?
  18. Hi Suesloosinit, I'd just be a bit careful with the juice drinks. The point of the protein liquid diet is to cut out sugary carbs so you can deplete the glycogen stores in your liver, and unfortunately juice is essentially liquid sugar.
  19. Me too!! I already knew I was lactose intolerant so I'm using LF milk to make up the shakes but my stomach is not used to all the sweeteners and me in diet. I'm just putting up with it because I have finally found shakes that taste half decent.
  20. I'm on day five and it's getting easier. There is research that found those who lose I think it was 8% of their excess weight pre-op have much better long term results, if that's motivation. That and find shakes that taste ok
  21. No probs. I am surprised more ppl don't know about it and take advantage of it.
  22. There's a little known EU law you might want to try and take advantage of before Brexit called the Cross-Border Healthcare Directive. If you get a referral from your GP, you can have your procedure done straight away anywhere else in Europe (like Belgium, where I am going). You have to pay up front yourself, so some people need to get a loan, but then the home state (in your case, the UK) reimburses you up to the maximum they would have paid if you have had it in the UK. https://www.nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/healthcare-abroad/going-abroad-for-treatment/compare-funding-routes/ So for example I'm in Ireland and the cost of major obesity procedures is capped at €8500 (approx). My band to mini-gastric bypass is approx. €7500 with Belgium Surgery Services so I can get that all reimbursed except not flights (but they are pretty cheap, €20 each way with Ryanair off peak).
  23. It's almost like they might have been hoping you'll drop out and they wouldn't have had to pay. Well done you for sticking it out.
  24. Me too (just started the pre-op diet). 4th day in and I'm acclimatising. I determined to have the shrinkiest liver my doc has ever seen!
