October Bypass

After a long and hard fight to get approval for my Bypass - it finally got approved and am booked in for surgery on the 1st of October.

The nerves are kicking in already and have been a ball of emotions today! Now begins the next month of a diet to ensure I am in better shape for it.

I keep asking myself am I doing the right thing, I know I am as I am currently on a horrible road and if I keep going down the road I am going, it's not going to end well!

Please tell me I am doing the right thing, and that you have all felt similar emotions!

Thanks@Frustr8 ... Maybe they won't. Who knows... I just know I am going through the motions today and I am sure I will be for the next few weeks. Everyone seems to be doing so well post surgery. I suppose I am just second guessing myself. Your op is approaching soon enough isn't it?

I went though everything and was approved about 5 years ago. Something told me it wasn’t for me. I cancelled and tried for a few years on my own. Now I’m scheduled for Sept 7. I’m getting nervous and having doubts, but I know as I get older it’s way harder to lose weight and I’m starting to see my health affected. This is the right time for me.
Hey. I am set for October 15. Been a big girl all my life and dealt with it. Health concerns are starting and weight loss had always been a huge struggle. Taking the time to do something for me. Praying for good outcomes. Nervous and excited.

I reckon we sound like we are in the same boat. Nervous for surgery and the initial recovery... But excited to see what happens and how things change post recovery. Congrats on making the decision to do this. It's been the most difficult choice of my life.. But hopefully the most worthwhile to get my life back. X

Wishing you the best irishgal21.

Just got my Surgery date for October 4th for bypass! I have been overweight my entire life and have had health issues from it for at least 15 years. I am super excited but it was like “ It just got real!” Good luck and good health to everyone!

Under 2 weeks out from surgery now... Things are getting VERY real, very quickly!

I'm having it done on the 3rd. I started the preop diet today. Good luck to you.

Is anyone nervous or struggling with their breakup with food...? Knowing they'll never be able to eat their favourite foods? ?

I'm struggling with the first day of liquid diet hahaha. My nutrionist told me that eventually I'd be able to have those foods again in moderation and in way smaller servings. That's a bit motivating. Right now I just need to get through these 2 damn weeks. Good luck!!!

@SarcasticJopanda ... Bread is my enemy and my dietian told me thats a big no no.

That's one of my weaknesses too :( . I'm confident that pre and postop diets will help me curve that craving. A lot of stuff that is made of bread is being made with other stuff now. Like cauliflower pizza crust. I've never tried it but it's better to have a healthier alternative than nothing. I think we'll survive.
I’m scheduled for bypass on Oct 8. I have had a previous surgery. (Lapband). I did the 2 week diet then before and after surgery. Slow progression to mushy foods. Followed it to the T. It was not easy...I can say the food funerals yep we held them before the two weeks nearly every day but you know what the truth is you are going to eat those foods again.
Hopefully in a good and balanced way thinking of all your hard work and surgery before taking the bite right?
Band didn’t work well for me, as vigilant as I was my body rejected it and it had to come out before it did any serious irreversible damage.
I’m ready for this next step...easing into the diet by eliminating one meal a week and replacing with a shake. This week I am up to breakfast and lunch 2 snacks of yogurt/pudding eating only a small dinner. Monday should be all liquids....easier at work all day home and the weekends are my challenge.
One big incentive is my sons engagement party is the Sat before surgery...preop weight loss means a nice dress for Mamma ?
