Healthy_life got a reaction from ABawdyMermaid in After surgery, ever eat food you shouldn’t?
To be strict or to be lax in this process is a personal choice. We are all adults and make are own food choices. The only one that has to be happy with your weight loss is you.
Maintaining : I indulge once in a while. If it causes weight gain, I go back to bariatric food plan to get the weight off. Weight loss mode: I was consistent not perfect. I had slips and got right back on plan.
We do have a cheats thread that shows you Yes, people eat foods that are off plan. I'm a bit conflicted about the thread.
    https://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/417492-confessional-lets-post-our-cheatsconfessionsetc-so-others-can-see-that-we-are-all-human/?tab=comments#comment-4667931
Things to think about in going off plan or indulging once in a while:
Adding carbohydrates and sugar makes you crave them more. It takes time to detox and get back on plan your first few months is your best weight loss. You also have your golden year. Weight loss is harder after your first year( still can be done) Monitor if indulging is slowing your weight loss down. Will it make getting to your goal take more time? WIll indulging become habit? Every weekend? Every month? How solid are you in behavior change? Going off plan can be a slippery slope for some. With the sleeve, you will get to a point that you noticeably can consume more food as your restriction becomes less. What has made people successful 2 years + out

No weight loss since August isn't really a plateau anymore, it's just eating maintenance. Nobody besides people with dwarfism or very short coma patients will maintain on 1000 calories so your counts are likely wrong.

For calorie counting to work, you have to weigh or measure every single thing that passes your lips. No eyeballing portion sizes or mindlessly snacking on something and forgetting about it. If you're honest about it and still don't lose weight, get in touch with CERN because your body has figured out how to conjure energy from the Aether and they'd love to study you.

Your weight loss in the months to come will be unique to you. We are more than the statistics.
40 to 60% are the stats for weight loss. Nothing has to be set in stone as a goal weight right now. As you get closer to your surgeons goal weight. You can decided if you want to press on to your ultimate goal.
"So for any of you that have reached your ultimate goal weight, or you went above and beyond the 60%, please share your stories, tips/advice, input, exercise/diet regimens? I want to fully prepare for this mentally before diving in physically. I don't want to feel discouraged before even having my surgery"
You may have times when you feel discouraged after surgery. Stalls and mental battles Etc. Keep connected with support form bariatric patients. We are here for you.
I am four years out. 5'5" 254 high weight - 234 day of surgery. six months 140 - I went on to 130's My motivation and perspective came from my mother. I watched her battle cancer. She knew she had months to live. I thought of her each time things got hard. She would have gladly traded places with me for my weight loss struggles. I was driven to make the most out of my surgery and life.
Surgery is work. None of this happens over night. You earn each pound. The sum of small things repeated day in and day out will get you where you want to be.
Nothing magic - I followed my eating plan and guidelines. Learned to log my food. I stayed consistent. I discovered a passion read all things bariatric, nutrition and fitness. It was eye opening. I learned food is fuel and not for comforting stress/emotions Exercise was a necessary evil. It developed over time into something I enjoy Exercise:
Let no one interrupt your gym/exercise. It's time you carve out for yourself. Use it to process life's issues and overcome the mental battles that may surface with WLS.
My first year: I dedicated an hour five /six days a week. I started with walking. Then the elliptical and a bit of weight lifting. I increased the resistance and weight as I got stronger. Over time my workouts evolved Into biking, distance running and lifting.
    Food:
Log you food. Make sure you hit your calories, Protein and carbohydrates for the day without going over. Get temptations out of the house, Grocery shop and cook your own food.
    Congrats on your upcoming surgery,
    Jenn

Also today I cleaned my wardrobe. I put in a huge bag all my huge clothes that are starting to fall when I walk and kept only the clothes I had when I was at about this weight several years ago and I bought some new leggings and panties from C&A :p
It was a strange feeling because usually I was putting clothes in the side because they were too small to wear them, now they are huge to wear them !

So for day 2, reality has kind of slapped me in the face. I am not the young girl who, when I last weighed this much, was working out twice a day. My muscles are nonexistent and I'm having to start from scratch. So February goals have changed to: the no junk food challenge, Feb Ab challenge, and self love. With that, running, and my weekly hikes it'll be hard to not be overwhelmed. For today's self love - I chose my "Care bear cheeks" they run in my family from my moms side. I got teased for them all the time and use to hate them, but now I love them!

Favourite facial feature: my eyes. I have green eyes which although they are on the yellow end of the green spectrum rather than the blue, they're rather unusual to have, statistically speaking, so I like them!

Mine would be my widows peak in my front hairline, I used have a strawberry birthmark right below that, but it has faded with time but if I geel flushed it does magically reappears some. Others would be my lips and 😃 smile, it usually is sincere and honest, cause I usually am a happy little camper! Incidentally one of my Aussie penpals I sent my picture to, @Ummyasmin, told me my eyes are the same shade as a Dingo Dog, should this please or offend me? Never knew which way to think!👈👸👉

Healthy_life reacted to KT1981 in A terrifying and hilarious NSV
First, let me say that this week I got my first, "I didn't recognize you!" from a coworker I hadn't seen since before the surgery. (I could tell something was weird because she was acting oddly shady toward me during the first part of the meeting, and then suddenly became normal several minutes later. Must have been when she put 2 and 2 together.)
Anyway, on to the terrifying and hilarious NSV. So I'm walking rapidly down this long, empty hall at work and focused on the door all the way at the other end. I'm trying to take a quick bathroom break and I don't have a lot of time. I kinda glanced down to check my path ahead of me (since I'd previously been focused on the door and not watching where I was walking) and as I glanced down I suddenly saw something scurry around my feet. We've been known to have the occasional mouse in the building and I live in the midwest where it has been bitterly cold, which can push critters inside. Naturally, I freak out and do a little jig and start looking around, but I see nothing.
I'm not sticking around to meet a mouse if I don't have to, so I start power walking to the door/end of the hallway and I see it scurry by my feet AGAIN! Suddenly, before the panic set in, a realization set in and I test my theory by walking slowly at first, then faster. Yep. It's my own feet. I can now see my own feet when I walk because my stomach has shrunk in size. No mice. Just my own damn feet. 🤣

500-700 calories seems very low. I’m 5 1/2 months post sleeve and eating about 900 cals/day (ranges from 700-1100), at least 70 g of Protein. Still losing about 10-13 lbs/month.

SIDE NOTE: I was allowed to add carbs (whole wheat, sweet potato, brown rice) when I got close to my maintaining weight. This was to slow/stop weight loss. Again, all plans look different.

It always amazes me the different instructions by different dr's. I remember when I was seeing my primary they said if I stuck to a diabetic diet of 2000 calories I'd lose weight, of course I didn't, but I thought with 500 I would starve and at times that is what it feels like, then I get moody. I end up eating very bad foods. But when I eat about 1000 in healthy foods I don't get "hungry or angry". But 500 literally I don't feel full.
