Post bypass questions
You're welcome, @Chrisb428! Several people gained in the hospital. These few pounds will be gone before you know it.

Post bypass questions
My first bm was 8 days after surgery. Per my surgeon's office, I drank Mirilax daily then added glycerin suppositories and even did an enema one night. My body just wasn't ready. Thankfully when I did go it wasn't bad. I started losing weight immediately, even before I came home from the hospital. My program says spices are okay but you might want to check with your doctor to be sure. I'm 11 days post-op and still have a little discomfort in my largest incision when laying down. Usually I have to shift around in bed until I'm comfortable. My normal sleep positions don't always work right now.

Love following this thread. Can't wait until I have something to add.

Assumptions
Like @Frustr8 said, lots of people assume I got so big because I'm lazy or something along those lines. I have health issues that have put me at a disadvantage. Previous meds largely contributed to my weight gain. Hopefully now I have the advantage back in my corner and can finally beat this beast.

Constipation
My first bm was 8 days after surgery. I was freaking out but was so thankful when it happened. Thankfully I wasn't constipated.

3 Weeks Post-Op, How long until you can actually eat/drink?
@_Shane_ Per my plan, I start pureed and soft foods next week at just over 2 weeks after surgery. I think we just have to keep at it with little amounts and keep chugging along.

3 Weeks Post-Op, How long until you can actually eat/drink?
@MusicalKate13 my program allows fruit in protein shakes as long as they are strained out through a fine mesh strainer. It is crazy how different our meal plans are. I used to drink water like you. Sipping all day is so hard. My surgery was Aug. 23 and today my stomach has started the grumbling and churning. Been wondering why.

Protein has been a struggle for me too. The dr was going to write me out of work for another week until I promised to up my protein intake. I'm still tired and know I'm healing but I'm ready for work. Thankfully my boss is very accommodating and is fine if I can only work a few hours at a time. But I'm really going to miss my daily naps. Ha!

Craving pickles but getting diarrhea
Gentle hugs! The first few days at home afterwards I looked at my husband and asked if I made a mistake by having the surgery. He reminded me that a lot of thought and hard work went into this process. From what I've read, questioning yourself early on seems fairly common. Remind yourself of the longterm advantages surgery will provide for you. Have you tried diluting Gatorade with water? Can you tolerate warm drinks?

@clsumrall my surgery was the 23rd and I didn't have a bm until yesterday. I was freaking out. My poor nurse heard from me daily. She had me drinking Mirilax and using glycerin suppositories and even an enema. I was terrified of what the first one would be like. Thankfully it was easy and I've been going easily since. Hope yours is just as easy.

Unexpectedly needing to care for yourself after surgery?
Thanks everyone! The first few days home were interesting. We've had to ask others to carry in heavy items like water and cat litter. He was able to go back to work Wednesday.

Thanks! We were both released about the same time. He didn't know about the gas pains so as he was walking to the car a bubble got him good so he went right back to the ER. He didn't bother telling me so I was a little freaked out for a bit. Thankfully a friend brought me home. My sister and another friend have been helping take care of our fur kids. He's already back at work.

Unexpectedly needing to care for yourself after surgery?
Thanks everyone. We'll have to go grocery shopping when we're both released and have a friend come carry them in. Hubby makes my protein shakes but won't feel like it the first few days so I'll need premade ones. Due to other health issues I generally need help around the house with a few things anyway. A friend is going to walk our dogs daily thankfully. Guess I'll ask her to change our sheets. They were supposed to be changed yesterday. My program says to change them the night before surgery and again your first night home. His surgeon said he might be able to go back to work Wednesday. So he'll be healing much more quickly than I expected.

@ZeroCool thanks. Crazy they kept him waiting so long before updating him. Hubby had surgery around 9 last night. This hospital is split into 2 campuses that are basically across the street from one another. He's at the other campus. But he did come see me before being admitted.

Unexpectedly needing to care for yourself after surgery?
Thanks but there's no way we could afford that especially with both of us out of work.

Unexpectedly needing to care for yourself after surgery?
Has anyone had to fully take care of themselves when you get back home from surgery? Yesterday my husband had to go to the ER while I was in surgery for severe abdominal pain. Right now he's waiting to have a CT to see if it is appendicitis. UGH! He's so worried that he won't be able to take care of me if he does. If he has surgery we have to take care of each other somehow. We don't have family in town who could help us out.

Waking up in pain after surgery
My pain hasn't been excruciating thankfully. There's definitely some pain there but nothing terrifying. I am experiencing more pain than I had with my hysterectomy but these incisions are larger.

Still in pain and groggy today. Didn't get to my room until 9:30 last night. My heart rate was too high so they kept me in recovery a while. Yesterday my husband had to go to the ER while I was in surgery for severe abdominal pain. Right now he's waiting to have a CT to see if it is appendicitis. UGH! He's so worried that he won't be able to take care of me if he does. Can I cry now?

Thank you! Surgery isn't until 1:00 so it might be late before I can check in. How are you doing today?

Medicaid pre-surgery weight loss
My guess is that your BMI shouldn't drop too low in order to qualify.

Waking up in pain after surgery
If I don't feel like getting on Thursday night I'll check in Friday. You aren't asking a lot at all. It helps to know.

Waking up in pain after surgery
I've wondered the same thing. My surgery is Thursday so I'll try to check in that evening to let you know how I'm feeling.
