looly got a reaction from mlmx1138 in So what are you unable to eat now?
    There's nothing I can't eat.
However, I have to be very careful about spacing out the meals and keeping the quantities small.
I had a small roast chicken dinner at a friend's yesterday, then two hours later had a tiny smidgeon of apple pie and ice cream...cue the most horrendous dumping syndrome. It's only the third time its happened, but I should have known better. I didn't want to offend my friend, who'd cooked the pie specially, but I suppose vomiting violently down her toilet was more offensive! 😲

looly got a reaction from Tracyringo in Weighing your food on a food scale
I don't weigh anything or count calories. My portion size is about the same as the palm of my hand (or less if I feel satisfied quickly). I do keep a food diary, to make sure that I'm eating healthily and I probably eat 5 or 6 times a day.
Last week, I went on holiday and had alcohol and one or two Desserts, and I still managed to lose a pound (although I did quite a lot of swimming and walking).
Maybe I'm just lucky in finding a way of eating that works for me. If weighing and counting calories works for you, then it's super that you've found the strategy to suit you! 🙂

I've been on this site for just over a year and I've never seen any threads of the 'Help-I've-lost-too-much-weight!' variety. I shouldn't worry about it if I were you. If you've done your research and are happy with the risks, then do it - the rewards are worth it. 🙂

I could give you the advice an elderly relative gave me years ago...
"Do you know what a penis is? For god's sake, stay away from it!"
...but that probably wouldn't be particularly helpful! 😲

I wore a wrap dress today, and two things were notable:
    1) the wrap now fits me so completely that I don’t have to pin the bodice and I also don’t have to worry about gusts of wind - if the first panel flies up, the second one wraps all the way to my hip and has me covered
    2) I completely forgot about wearing anything on my thighs, so when I hit the street and felt how muggy it was my heart sank, imagining friction burns on my inner thighs by day’s end. But after 2 miles of walking? NOTHING. even with the extra skin, NO CHAFING AT ALL.

You're changing and he's not - that can cause problems in any relationship, whatever the nature of the change. You have my sympathy, because it's a hard gig.
I suffered from depression long before the surgery and it took me a long time to get better from it. My partner was very calm and patient with me: he looked after me while I found ways to recover. I don't know how he put up with me, but he did.
I think, in the end, he knew he wanted to stay with me because he still liked and loved me, even though I was temporarily a nightmare. And although I'm now over 100 lbs lighter than I used to be, I wouldn't want to ditch him for someone younger and slimmer, because I still like and love him and know that he's reliable when the going is tough.
I suppose you need to decide if you like your husband well enough to wait for him to heal himself, because you can't do it for him.
I'm sending you a virtual hug, because this is such a hard situation to work through. I hope you have a best friend you can talk to.

Anxiety is awful (as is the ensuing depression). When its got a strong grip on you, only medication can take the edge off it. But if I could catch it early, I used to find that swimming myself (almost to exhaustion) used to relieve it. There was something about front crawl that was calming - holding my breath for 6 strokes, breathing out on the 7th, breathing in on the 8th. Mind you, you don't always have the option of jumping in a pool when you're feeling anxious!

looly got a reaction from FluffyChix in Foodies - honestly how bad is it?
I was given no strict rules for the solid food stage, other than to avoid junk food and refined carbs. To date, I've lost 111 lbs, and I eat a healthy balanced diet in small portions. I have small treats, but they are things that I really enjoy - not cr*ppy food.
I had some problems with Constipation early on, but I think it was because I was eating more Protein than anything else. Once I'd decided to eat more fibrous carbs and slightly less protein, that problem disappeared.
When I go out to dinner, I order exactly what I want and ask to take the rest home. Consequently, I don't feel like my choices have been severely restricted - just the quantities. I still enjoy food immensely.

looly got a reaction from Goldn02Grl in Tips for Preventing Pouch Sleeve Stretch
My surgeon reckoned that it wasn't possible to stretch your sleeve, because the stretchy part of the stomach had been removed. He said it was possible to 'eat around' your sleeve, by grazing regularly when you weren't hungry.
I suppose it's a moot point, since the solution in each case is not to eat too much! 😀

If you are talking about an occasional lapse, then it's not a big deal; if you are talking about establishing habits in these directions, then it is a big deal, as good habits are the key to long term success in this game. Vitamins and Protein are a game of averages - one missed or low day doesn't make a real impact as the loss is made up before and after. Missed doses of some pharmaceuticals can be a much bigger deal. But, life happens - sometimes I don't notice that I didn't take my evening pills until the next day when I look in the box and see that I missed it (usually because we went out to eat that night and habits got disrupted.) Get back on the horse and forget the minor slip up.
NSAIDs are more of an RNY thing than a VSG thing (indeed, one of the selling points of the duodenal switch - a sleeve plus malabsorption - is that it is NSAID tolerant.) Again, habitual or consistent use might be a problem and you should consult your surgeon on that.
Eating out regularly is difficult on anyone trying to control their weight, WLS or not, as cost and taste are the priorities over calories and metabolic impact. Restaurant fare is often double the calories of comparable home prepared meals. As with vitamins and protein, it is a game of averages, so an occasional meal out gets lost in the noise of everyday life, but it is the average, it is a bigger problem. One has to be much more diligent in what one orders if is an everyday thing.

I had a gastric sleeve on 30th June this year. I lost about 14 lbs before the surgery, but I'm still very pleased with the rate of weight loss since. I put a pound back on over the Christmas holiday, but I've lost it again plus another pound. I lose about a pound a week now, and that's fine by me!

I think that how your face ages is down to genetics.
I don't think I look much younger or older now I've lost weight. If I'm relatively wrinkle-free, then I'll let my mother take the credit!
