SydneySleever reacted to Orchids&Dragons in Having trouble believing my stomach is gone
Quite a few people have commented that they felt like the surgeon didn't do anything, just sewed them back up. It's not until you start feeling the restriction (usually when you get to soft foods) that reality smacks you up the side of the head.

It's def weird, I felt very weird getting total knee replacement - having bones cut and metal parts. That you can feel at least lol, but poof 85% of your stomach, it's like David Cooperfield did a 'slight of hand' trick with a black tablecloth. Presto!

I can understand this. When I had my band put in... I really didn't believe it, outside of being able to feel the port, I wasn't sure. Now, with the bypass, I've got nothing to let me know that my stomach has been cut in 2 and my intestines are all changed. Well, outside of the weight loss, dumping syndrome and new Vitamin requirements.
It's odd, but changes without being able to see them.... it's understandable that anyone would be somewhat skeptical.

This is a bit weird but here goes. I'm having trouble believing my stomach is now a sleeve. I mean logically I know i've had this operation. I went to the hospital, there are scars etc. But something in my head can't process the idea that a big chunk of my stomach is gone. I can drink a lot of fluids and I'm often hungry, so maybe this has to do with it. I'm not sure.
Anyone felt the same before? Any ideas?

Make sure your Water intake is as high as you can possibly get right now. I found taking chewable Fiber helps, also, I used a generic Miralax in my morning smoothies for a bit and you can use some "Smooth Moves" tea. All of which help greatly! But water intake is CRITICAL!

SydneySleever got a reaction from Natalie B in To tell coworkers or not?
I’ve only told close family. For me I couldn’t think of a good enough reason to tell colleagues. Will they help me in achieving my goals? Not likely. Do I value their opinions on health issues? Nope. Do they need to know? Absolutely not. Will it make it hard to work with them if they say something offensive? Absolutely. I like to keep things simple, so I kept work out of it.

I’m up and walking around the ward. No nice outdoor area where I am. Most of the discomfort is from the gas. I do have a sore tummy, I’m taking pain relief for that

I’m 7 days post op and healing ok. I live in an area with a lot of hills and I’m finding I’ve lost a lot of my cardio since surgery. Looking forward to being able to walk in my neighbourhood again!

I was walking around same day. The hospital I was at had a lovely little recovery garden that made it more compelling. I was planning to go back to work after a week but postponed because while I could walk and was mobile, I was exhausted and could really feel I needed a break to recover. I’m half way through my second week off.

SydneySleever reacted to KatyasMommy in Another chapter to my book!
Finally decided to post after 16 months after my surgery! It sure has been an interesting ride. I can say that most weight loss is attributed to what happens in the kitchen more than in the gym. However, working out sure makes you feel a lot better! I also had Tummy Tuck and removal of about 10-15lb of skin in December 2017, about 10 months after surgery. I started at 350lb, Surgery weight was ~325lb, Tummy Tuck was at ~195 and my one year mark in February has kept me at about 175lb. 13 months after my surgery, I had to get gall bladder removed because I was having ugly gall bladder attacks and they found several stones. They attributed it to severe weight loss in small amount of time. Also, for those at the beginning, my best advice is to not allow yourself to get discouraged with stalls because oooooh my, how I loathed them! Just stick with the magic number 6 and don't consume more than 6g of sugar in any sitting or with any beverages. Stay Focused. Be Grateful Everyday. Appreciate your wonderful body at every stage,

I’m so excited to share that I’m no longer overweight. This surgery has been the best decision of my life. I have had a few stalls so for those of you in a stall hang in there! I pretty much eat what I want except high sugar foods, rice and bread. I work out 3-5 times a week at Equinox. I do spin, Pilates and boxing. I’m 20 lbs away from my goal weight and fitting into size 8 and medium clothes. One thing I’m trying to do is avoid designers and stores that don’t have plus size clothing. They didn’t want my business when I was a size 18 so they don’t get it now. Good luck to everyone going through this process!
