I'm seven years post-op. It's true I can eat more than I could at one or two years post-op, but I still have restriction. I can eat about a cup and a half of food before becoming uncomfortable. I will say that grazing all day long will put the weight right back on. I tend to eat when I'm anxious or bored, so I had to learn how to cope with those without eating. Once your weight is stable, keep weighing yourself and for heaven's sake, take steps to lose two or three pounds rather than letting them pile on until you are looking at 50 to lose. It really is kind of an eternal vigilance sort of thing.

Almost 2 years out, 115 pounds down and still losing. Working on switching up to lose body fat and build muscle - so I'm not super concerned about the scale number right now. Haven't had plastics yet - that will account for another 10-12 pounds.
I eat 100-120 grams of Protein a day and drink about a gallon of water/unsweetened beverages at day. I work out 6 days a week. I fence competitively. I work with a personal trainer. I have learned to eat carbs again- which I only do when I am fencing multi day tournaments because my body needs the fuel.
My body fat is around 31% which rocks for a 56 year old post-menopausal woman. I went from a size 24 to a size 6.
Your sleeve is a tool. But the biggest, bestest, most badass tool is you brain. Get you head in the right place and don't accept failure as an option.

Disclaimer: I haven't had surgery yet. But I will tell you what my surgeon's office told me. They said the reason that you are supposed to lay good groundwork and create good habits during the honeymoon phase is because after the honeymoon phase your metabolism starts to get wind of what's going on so to speak and starts working against you again. Pre surgery Your metabolism fights you tooth and nail to keep you at your current weight. Especially if you don't do metabolism boosting things such as daily exercise, proper eating, and drinking plenty of Water (which i'm sure most if not all of us are guilty of!).
There is something about this surgery that my surgeon believes temporarily affects your metabolism (the honeymoon phase). He believes that for a period of time it is not fighting you at all. This explains why people do things/eat things they shouldn't and still continue to lose plenty of weight. They dangerously believe that since it is such small amounts of food that their transgressions aren't going to affect their weight loss. And it won't during the first 12 months. But as soon as your metabolism catches wind of what's going on it's going to start fighting you again. If you haven't created good habits during this time then it will be so much harder to maintain your weight or continue to lose weight. The sleeve is not only a tool of restriction but also a temporary metabolism reset (according to my surgeon). Use it wisely. Use that time where your metabolism isn't taking notice of the copious amounts of weight you're losing to do activities that create a more efficient metabolism. Because a bite here and there of the stuff we're not supposed to have is going to affect your weight when that honeymoon phase is over if you continue .
When my surgeon explained this to me I really took it to heart and it makes me want to take advantage of that honeymoon phase to do ALL the right things. I am sure that is much easier said than done but I am hopeful that I will follow the plan strictly.
At the end of the day we are all in charge of our success, as the previous poster said if you stick to the plan you will not gain all of your weight back. Best of luck to you!!

Hello Everyone-I frequently visit this site for inspiration and encouragement. I am 5 week’s post-op today. I am ecstatic that I am sleeved.
Lately though, I see a lot of posts about people gaining back what they lost and more. That is so discouraging to me. I know my sleeve is a tool. I know that my new way of eating is for life. The sleeve helps so much with Portion Control. My question is...do you eventually lose the restriction you feel while eating? I don’t want to lose that feeling of being satiated with just a small amount of food?
In my nutrition classes prior to surgery, the rules were stressed over and over. Eat your Protein first (at least 60 to 75 grams), no drinking with meals, stop drinking fluids 30 min before and no drinking 30 minutes after meals, 64 ounces or more of Water per day (still working to meet this goal), exercise and Vitamins. I am sticking to this now and working on my mindset to commit lifelong to this. My motivation for this is that the sleeve will allow me to eat less and succeed. Why do so many regain? Is there no hope to keeping the weight off permanently?

Thank you! I was able to start walking the same day as my surgery, but I was having some trouble keeping liquids down. Yesterday and today it's going much better, I can walk around my house while sipping Water constantly.

Good morning group!!! Well first of all I would like to say I enjoy this group and it takes away any second guessing and fear from me. I am depressed because I failed my marijuana test, I use for medicinal purposes instead of taking Norco all the time. I have not smoked since March and still failed my test now I have to wait 60 more days before I can retake the test. I was so hyped up about finally getting the test done and having my paperwork sent off to my insurance for approval that I didn't even think about the possibility of failing the test. So now here I am day 2 of 60 feeling depressed and anxious. Just needed to get that off my chest and I will keep reading posts here and try to stay positive

im still feeling great, every time I get up I'm doing 10 or more laps of the ward, blood pressure is low, but not too low, blood sugars have normalized following the surgery. All I can say is that the team whose care I am under is amazing.

Follow your program guidelines 100% - just because you can do something outside the guidelines doesn't mean you should. It is so much easier to get into good habits from the start vs. trying to change them later when you see bad things creeping in. Lean on your support system as much as possible, especially dieticians to get new ideas for things to try that are within your guidelines. Don't get too focused on the numbers. Take lots of pictures and measurements and focus on the NSV's. And lastly don't sweat the small stuff. It's a huge emotional rollercoaster and getting worked up about how many pounds you did or didn't lose in the last day or two or if you have "stalled" because you didn't lose weight in the past 24 hours is just not worth it.

    Follow the rules/guidelines.
I see so many posts on forums & social media where people try to advance themselves with food, try to go back to work early, lift things heavier than brute suppose to etc. All sorts of things that are out of their guidelines. I am on a Facebook group for WLS (connected with the insurance/hospital I am associated with) & people are eating mashed potato, yogurts, pudding & creamed Soups when that stuff isn’t allowed on our program and they know but say, “oh but it went down fine.” Of course it did, it’s a slider food.
People fail to realize that they just had major surgery & just because you feel “okay”, doesn’t mean you can start doing whatever it is you want. That’s kind of how we got fat in the first place. This is a time to start anew, a fresh start, so follow the guidelines.

I feel pretty good. Some minor gas pain, but that should be gone by tomorrow. Was allowed liquids today for the first time. My taste buds don’t appear to have changed much, yet. I haven’t had much, as a few spoonfuls of broth satisfies me.
will be likely going home tomorrow night if everything continues this way. I’m still on a drip so I’m hydrated for when I go home.

Hi .... super nervous, I am out 4 years from lap band removal, doc said 1-5% chance he will do nothing if things don’t look to good on the inside. Also 10% change he would have to do a bypass. I am hoping for s sleeve but my main concerns are strictures do to scar tissue, and and nausea -since having my band out I still have some residual nausea times.i am hopeful it will go smooth but I know surgery day I will be a complete nervous wreck!!! I ordered all my liquids & thought I started a 10 day pre-op but he told me only 7 days yesterday at my final appointment. Pre-op starts Tuesday coming up. Wow is this going Fast - started my journey in October to get a sleeve... it has flown bye! I wish everyone here fast healing and fantastic success. Hope it will be the same here!

So I have been fairly quiet on the message board but I have learned a lot by reading all of the different posts here.
so today was the day, I'm in my room now following my Sleeve surgery and I couldn't be happier, a new chapter has stared in my life!
my story starts back in September of 2017 where I had some bad liver results in my blood work, so we followed up with three month follow up and my numbers had tripled from the bad results that they already were at and prompted a comment from my GP that changed my life. She told me that if I continued on the trend I was doing that within 12 to 18 months I would be looking at a liver transplant in worse. It was my wake up call. for 15 years I had been promising I would get back into shape after being a state level rugby player in high school and earning my second degree black belt in taekwondo, I had certainly let myself slide.
On Jan 15th I weighed in at 305.6 lbs with a BMI of 44.5. I worked my butt of, literally, and today I weighed in for surgery at 230.0 lbs! And I feel great, coaching rugby again, even runnng with the kids I coach, running!
So now the second phase begins, my ideal weight I'm told is 154 so my goal is 160/165 so that when I get the little rebound I can level out at about 175/180.
so sleeve is complete, fixed a hiatal hernia and I'm up walking, downing my Water, all is well in my world right now and the future is looking bright. I have already stopped my diabetes Meds, stopped my cholesterol meds and looks like I'm going to go home with no blood pressure meds after cutting the dose in half already. So thankful for my wake up call and then the opportunity to get this done!

Same here but I had my VSG on 5/10. My surgeon says to hydrate over Protein right now. I already had to be admitted to the ER once for dehydration. I try to get at least 40g of protein per day and sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t. I’m not too stressed about it. I had a rough patch where eating anything made me vomit so I’ve been back on liquids for 10 days. Just started soft foods again yesterday and now it’s going really well.
Like my NUT says, you can live 3 weeks without food, but only 3 days without Water.< /p>
