I had gastric bypass 3/27/19, so right around when you had yours. Not in So. Cal. Though. And not African American. I do, However, understand the surgery!! You're doing great! I know it's a struggle sometimes.

It does sound like too many carbs in the evening, you're right! Your Breakfast sounds great. Is there any way with your job that you could have a morning and afternoon snack of like 100 calories? That would keep you from going too long without food. And from eating too many carbs at dinner. Maybe you and your husband could brainstorm some less carby dinner ideas that are still easy to make. Don't give up! There are websites for bariatric meal ideas. Try Googling some.

    Hi and welcome!
hair Loss: maybe? We're all different.
Getting too thin: Worry about following your surgeon's plan. Good news is most of us already broke the code on how to gain weight. Worry about how to lose down to your personal goal. The rest takes care of itself regardless of starting weight.
Loose skin: Probably. Also individual and depends on genetics and age usually.
Dehydration: The struggle is real for many. Fluid is KING before and after surgery. If you stay fully hydrated then it's easier to eat normally and remain nausea free and losing weight. I'm 17 months out. At 4 days I was getting my 64oz of liquids in and now I have 100+oz per day every day.
Congrats on making the pre-emptive changes. I've got zero regrets. Don't be anxious!

I'm sorry you weren't better prepared by your surgeon as to which foods were going to be a no-no after surgery. I guess I was fortunate in that from the first informational session, and repeatedly during my 6 months of nutrition visits they made it really clear that anything more than 5 gms of sugar, deep fried foods, bread and white starches, corn, chips, and crunchy salty Snacks were going to be off the menu permanently. I know all doctors are different and I'm NOT dissing yours, just thankful I was prepared. Hopefully there are still lots of yummy things you can eat. Best to you.

Hi, Christina, and welcome! Sorry you're struggling. You could find an app like Baritastic or my fitness pal to log and track your food. They have nutritional information. I use Baritastic. It is geared towards bariatric patients and reminds me to drink and take my Vitamins. Many people like MFP. I'll be your buddy if you want! Hang in there.

What, you can't visit your Grandma? You can't participate in family holidays?? Why can't you enjoy your Grandma's company and just not have it revolve around food? There Will be things you like that you can eat. I promise. You will be able to participate in family holidays and celebrations. Just focus on the meaning for the get togethers. You need to change your relationship with food. You are right that food should go from being an emotional crutch. And a coping mechanism, but think of food as nutrition and something you lovingly give yourself to aid in your health and well being. I still go out to eat. I just pick off my husband's plate, or get an appetizer. I still visit with relatives. My life no longer revolves around food. It is all about cultivating the proper mindset, and YOU CAN DO THIS!

Don't be offended, but I'm shocked that any doctor would do RNY outpatient! I had RNY 8 weeks ago, and was in the hospital 3 days and 2 nights. The first 24 hours I wasnt allowed anything by mouth, and was on round the clock antinausea meds and an IV. I cannot imagine how I would have done if I had to go home the afternoon of my procedure. But. That being said, all surgeons are different, and maybe yours has a lot of experience with outpatient surgery. Best to you.

Briswife15 got a reaction from FluffyChix in HELP! Still can’t eat and constantly nauseous
When I was first diagnosed, it was as small as a pin hole!! I've had 5 endoscopies with dilation. And they manage to stretch it a little more each time. I'm hoping I'm done, but still struggling with food. Best to you!

I'm like Frustr8. At 3 weeks post bypass I was diagnosed with a severe stricture and marginal ulcers. 3 months post op now, and just had my 5th endoscopy with dilation on Friday. I couldn't eat or drink much without feeling nauseous and having difficulty swallowing. Go back to your surgeon please!

Dr. Brian, with all due respect, as a food addict I fully understand the need to have "palatable options" for eating. But let's examine the psychology of your question. OK?
You are looking for a "tasty" food fix. But that's the exact thing you want to try to find a way to overcome. It takes a mental re-framing. Instead of looking for rewarding food experiences, look for foods you tolerate, that offer deep nutrition or the biggest bang for your nutrition buck, and that stay down well and help heal your body.
Embrace BORING. Embrace low reward. Embrace KISS. Embrace interacting with your food as little as possible for as short a time-span as possible. Why? Cuz it's in the honeymoon phase that you have the ultimate opportunity to RESHAPE and reframe your relationship with food. Believe me, once your gut microbiome gets on board with your plan, you start to crave "boring" clean foods over the craptastic high-reward foods that got us our lifetime invitation to the Obesity Ball.
    Embrace:
    Protein Drinks (for now)
    yogurt
    low fat cottage cheese
    soft scrambled eggs
tuna salad made with cottage cheese and mashed hb egg
    soft boiled eggs
chicken salad made like the tuna salad
    sf Jello
    sf popsicles
And be done with it. Make it no-brainer repetition. Because all too soon, your struggle will get worse and then you will be asking for advice on how NOT to eat the slice of pizza or 3...
I come to you not judgementally, but as someone who has walked in that trench and has discovered new ways of thinking.

Everyone is so upset about not being able to eat regular food. Well regular and fat food got you where you are. Try something new. I’m 5 weeks post op bypass no pain. Blood sugar meds gone. Struggle mentally sure but no insulin no metformin is worth it! Try to relax and see the good.
