gbjourney6 reacted to lizonaplane in Pouch stretching?? Can I shrink it?
No matter how small your pouch/sleeve/stomach is, it stretches when there is food in it and contracts when there is no food in it. Also, liquids go right through it. Also, restriction is strongest in the first year. It's up to you to limit what you eat to ensure you do not regain weight. For example, it's possible to gain weight if you are "grazing" all day. Like, your smaller stomach will only accommodate a small amount of food in 30 minutes, but it will start to pass through, and if you are eating all day long, you will end up eating more calories over the course of the day than your body needs and you will gain weight. That's why it's best to have 3 small meals along with 2-3 small Snacks. Also, drinking liquids with your meals may "push" the food through and allow you to eat more that you need, that's why they recommend you wait 30 minutes after eating to drink. I would recommend finding a bariatric nutritionist in your new state, or ask your old surgeon to recommend someone you can see to find an appropriate eating plan/number of calories per day.

gbjourney6 reacted to lizonaplane in Pouch reset
I wouldn't try doing a liquid "pouch reset". There's not much evidence for that. Rather, just go back to the basics: Eat lean Protein, veggies, fruit, whole grains, lots of liquids, and make sure you're getting your Vitamins in. Most people find when they eat lean protein (chicken, fish, pork, etc) they still have restriction even after a number of years. For me, if I eat crap like pretzels or sweets, I can eat a lot, but when I eat good food like meat or even cheese, I can't eat much at all.
I do get a lot of hunger - always have - but I find it very helpful to drink warm tea all day. And @ClareLynn might be right - it could be acid reflux.

    MissPoodle,
I have been walking. A little over 2 months I had an emergency gallbladder removal so I’ve been restricted to walking and treadmill. There are videos on YouTube that you can follow that are short and sweet. At this point I don’t think we need to go too hard on exercise. At least 30 mins of activity to start.

Planochick, congrats on your weight loss. The mental side is such a struggle. I have had stalls, gains and loss. I’ve had dumping syndrome. I had my gallbladder removed earlier this month and everything just slowed all the way down. I definitely have been going through the mental side but just remember to go back to basics and I know I couldn’t lose more than 20 lbs before the surgery before I gained it back. Just remember to step back and try to regroup.

@shoregirl75 a loss is a loss take it as a win. I am almost 8 weeks post op and have had days when the scale bounced up and down the same 2 oz for 3 or 4 days it was very frustrating.

I hit 50 from pre-op today and 36 since surgery. Feels slow but then I see that number and think ok maybe not. Just weird I’m in all the same clothes, no one has really noticed. It’s just strange all the way around. Not sure I was fully prepared for the mental side of this surgery.

I had my Gastric bypass 7 weeks ago. Before the surgery they saw a lot of gallstones and like you I would eat and have to run to the bathroom. My surgeon said it was not that bad and we can remove it in about 6 months after the surgery. Fast forward last week I had a bad attack which was the pain in the right side that radiated to my back. I also had bad dry heaving and vomiting. I went to the ER and they said we have to take it out now. So please have a conversation with your primary and surgeon.

gbjourney6 got a reaction from Liz The New Me in September bypass buddies??
    Hello everyone,
I had my bypass on Sept 24th and I had a doctor follow up this week and he stated I can start eggs. So this next morning, Wednesday I had 1 scrambled egg and I couldn't finish because I started having this feeling like it was stuck in my chest, not tightening of my chest but stuck. I walked around for a few mins then drank some Water after 30 mins same feeling with water. It been happening with everything except for popsicles. So I have not been consuming too much because of the feeling. Anyone experiencing this?

So what would happen if you, heaven forbid, had a heart attack? I am also at “ at will” employee as is my entire company and most places I have worked. I would say that you need some time of for a medically necessary surgery and leave it at that. Talk to your new HR person. Often at start ups the boss is ignorant of all the intricacies of employee relations and Your HR person may be better equipped to advise him/ her. Also the HR is not able to disclose any personal information you share. My HR office knows I was out for surgery but has no idea what it was. There is something wrong if you can’t take a week or two off for medical and live in fear of your losing job, even at a start up!

Give up sodas & empty carbohydrate calories, cut down on coffee and other caffeine drinks until they are gone. More vegetables, especially green and yellow ones. Lower red meats, go to fish and lean fowl. Add Beans, good Fiber there and there are many varieties of them. Exercise more, even if you start with walks around the house, then around the block and neighborhood, work yourself up to the gym, if you go there now, you might get discouraged looking around at everybody else looking fit and trim. They may have once have been in your shoes and worked themselves up to there[emoji14] Most important believe in yourself, you are good, worthwhile, this is a project you will gain so much from , a longer healthier fitter life, less shortness of breath, more able to fit into the good things in life. Go for it, it is within your grasp if you really try! And you have a built in cheering squad in all of your Bariatric Pals![emoji14][emoji626][emoji14]

When I started my six month insurance required pre-op diet program, I decided to jump in the deep end of the pool and get started right away. I followed a Keto way of eating and lost 100 pounds by the day of my surgery. It was the best thing I did for myself other than having the surgery.
I have continued to follow that way of eating for almost 2 years now (including through the food stages -- I had to do an extra week of liquids post-op because I wouldn't eat cream of wheat and oatmeal. Lol.) I am below goal and have been maintaining for months.
I'd suggest finding a way of eating that you believe can be sustainable for you. I can't imagine where I'd be now if I hadn't done all that hard work on the front end of surgery.
    Good luck!

I am meeting with my surgeon on Tuesday but his nurse practitioner told me to already start losing weight. Problem is I don’t know what meal plan to use. Keto, Paleo, Mediterranean, ???? I am not sure where to start. I still have a few months at least until my surgery, but I want to get a jump on it. Any advise from those that have done this would be appreciated.
