How many days after surgery did you get your protein in?
Five days out and hit my goals last two days. Protein shakes, water, organic chicken broth, a couple sf popsicles and one pack of motts unsweetened apple sauce. I open one applesauce at night, two small baby spoonfuls with my crushed meds. Finish the pack over two sittings the next day.

Just got bumped up to solids!
I’ve been on and off MyFitnessPal for eight years and plan to use it when I get back to solids. One week out, a simple note pad seems easiest! Congrats on going to solids. I just can’t wait to get to something other then liquids!!!

Hi everyone!
Not at all!

Hi everyone!
Welcome to BP! My bypass surgery was this past Tuesday and last night was my first night home. My biggest advice is to walk. I did way more laps at the hospital then required and found myself awake at 3 am today and walked a half mile in my house - so far 2.5 miles for the day. Trying to work the bloat out. Feel free to ask questions. Summer and previous months bypass buddy threads contain lots of info as well.

Here we go
Doing much better. It felt SO nice to sleep in my own bed even if it only lasted five hours. Up at 3 AM and walked almost half a mile just in my house by 3:30. Gas pains suck but it’s working out. ? Learning quickly that I was a gulper when it came to drinking water. Never thought a single pop sickle would be too much either. Just trying to stay hydrated and move around.

November Bypassers!!
Just got home and so glad to be out of the hospital! Now the work begins. Already fighting food association. Really would like to have a couple of triscuits and cheddar cheese - my go to come home snack... Also, one wls patient went code blue today. All is good, she just stopped breathing for a bit. Scary.

November Bypassers!!
Surgery yesterday and doing better today. Last night sucked. Couldn’t sleep at all. I think I slept for an hour then no more then 5-10 minutes. Every time I’d fall asleep my o2 levels dropped and the alarm would jolt me awake. Barium swallow this morning showed no issues so reward is ice chips - so good after going 36 hours nothing to drink. Bring petroleum free chap stick! Life saver those hours. Good luck to future November bypassers!

Here we go
afternoon doing MUCH better! On ice chips, walking and liquid meds. Feeling tons better and just feeling really bloated.
-
Here we go
Pain pump can be clicked every 6 minutes and sometimes it’s a long six minutes..... Really wish I could just fall asleep.

Here we go
Made it. Pain is no joke and meds causing nausea almost threw up three times but got the nausea under control. Egd and swallow test tomorrow - can’t wait - my reward is ice chips. Walked once and boy it hurt but wow I felt tons better after. Thanks for the wishes.

November Bypassers!!
I asked my doctor about this and he didn’t think the long clear liquid diets did much past a certain time frame. I’m sure it has to do with each patient as well but in his office it’s 2-7 days of liquid. I started liquid today, tomorrow is bowel prep and meds to “sterilize” digestive tract, surgery the next morning. Does everyone have to wash with the surgical soup the day before and morning of surgery?

November Bypassers!!
Good luck @MikeIL!!! How long is your clear diet? Man, had a scare last night, ended up getting, I guess, a kidney stone last night and it really freaked me out. I've had one before and it was nothing like this one. I was really worried that it was something that would have prevent surgery due to not being able to get the catheter, but my surgeon and my PCP don't seem to be concerned now that they "symptoms" have stopped. What a roller coaster ride the last 12 hours, oh, and I put an offer on a new house today just to really add to my stress....

I've got a surgery date
Congratulations! Mine is scheduled for next Tuesday and I’ve spent a lot of time going through the previous months users experiences and the summer surgery threads just to get a feel for what others went through. Good luck!

Severe Anxiety After Scheduling Surgery
Absolutely normal! Heck I’m having RNY on Tuesday and has my preop class today and started getting cold feet BIG time! I just had to remind myself why I started this journey and calmed down. Perfectly normal feelings. Good luck!

Anyone regretting this?
I consider myself a newbie around here, and in the six or so months I’ve been a member this is the first drama I’ve noticed and it sucks. I hope you get resolution to your issues but I wouldn’t throw in the towel on the forum because a couple people who don’t know you started whining on your thread and ruined it for you.

Apprehensive Nurse, any other healthcare folks?
If you’ve been in an OR you know the difference between a good doc and a great doc. You also know the miracles that can happen and wls is more routine and repetitive so not sure why the concern for the surgery itself but you have to trust the team. I just had my preop apt and the nurse is a former patient and really put the same concerns to bed as the the ones you have. You’ll be fine! Good luck!

November Bypassers!!

How long after surgery before you returned to work?
My RNY is scheduled Tuesday 11/13 and I plan on being out that week and then the week of thanksgiving if needed. I’m a sales manager and can work from my phone and laptop for 75% of my job.
