Prior to 20-May I couldn't feed the end of this belt through the buckle. My thumb references where the end of the belt now ends.
Fortunately I had a couple of pairs of uniform pants tucked away from before my huge weight gain. These are now getting to big. I see new uniforms and belt in the near future.
I'm kinda liking the new me.

domi got a reaction from Daftgirl in Time it takes to eat food
It takes about 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain it is full. I try to st my food down between bites. This make me slow down a little. Also cut up your string cheese knowing you can eat 1/4 of it every 10 minutes. Our bodies are used to mindlessly eating. Sit down and concentrate on chewing each bite. Not always easy, but we are retraining ourselves. I have found if I eat slower I have less gurgling and less gas afterwards. Best of luck to you.

domi got a reaction from GreenTealael in BMI OF 31 AND 35 LB TO LOSE. IS IT WORTH IT?
If I was that close, I would not have done the surgery. I think what really helped me start losing was a combination of efforts. I was doing weight watchers, along with using the app and doing okay, but slow. To get weight loss surgery, I had to see a nutritionist, psychologist and a trainer. These were life changing. I saw the nutritionist for 4 months, she taught me more about the combination of foods (more than WW did). The trainer helped me learn to move correctly and motivated me to move more without causing more pain. The psychologist helped me realize I mattered. I had put myself so far back on my to-do list that I stopped caring for myself. With this combination of help, I gained a total support system and learned a new way to eat. I no longer was dieting. This was key to me. Best of luck to you whatever you decide.

Just an update. Went to my one year on Thursday. I was 271 lbs. I am almost to my vanity goal.

Most amazing was my body fat % had went from 44% to 17% in a year.

Even better, this time a year ago I took 9 pills a day for issues related to weight. Today, I take zero. Nada.

Amazing journey. I wish everyone that wants to start it the best. If you invest into it heavily you will have wonderful results!

Mikeyy, I was 6’5” 489 the day of my surgery and I am 6’7” 278 today. I was 6’6” and a half (barefooted) and 310 lbs when I played college football. All that weight had actually shrunk me. If you look in the photos you can see I am markedly taller now.

I am not quite to the one year mark, that will be May 10th of this year. My life has changed so much for the better that I wish I had done this years ago.

First, it is a lot of hard work. I log everything I eat. I light weighs 3-5 times a week religiously. I walk 5-10 miles a day religiously.

That said, I do occasionally eat foods I shouldn’t. I eat cake on my birthday. I eat ice cream once a week with my daughters. I still eat a bun with my hamburger and if I go watch a movie in theaters I will eat popcorn because life is too good to pass up and I want to experience it. I’m not perfect by any means but I’ve worked hard and 90% of the time I do exactly what I should be doing. I’ve dropped a ton of weight. Before I had the surgery I took 11 pills a day for various health issues. Today, I take zero prescribed medications and haven’t for the last three months. The only medicine I take now are Vitamins.< br />
I was super worried before the surgery — it is a massive surgery when you think about someone cutting out large chunks of a vital organ. I had two little kids, a 1 year old and a 3 year old at the time. All I could think of was what if it went wrong and I left them without a dad. That said, at the weight I was at, I was going to eventually eat myself into an early grave and leave them without a father anyway.

I’m glad I took the plunge. I lost the majority of my weight in the first six months. It started to slow down around the 9th month and the last three I’ve lost about 6 lbs a month. I’ve already hit my goal. I’m about 22lbs away from my vanity goal that I never thought I would hit before surgery. I tried to be realistic but I think I might surpass my vanity goal at this rate.

    Here are pictures.

domi reacted to MeanSleevedMachine in that horrible stall
The way I broke stalls was the reverse of what everyone in this thread is saying. I did two things anytime I stalled more than a few days.

I upped my calories 150-200 per day at each stall and drank a ton of water/tea the first few days. I also stopped all exercise except walking for a few days.

Once I started losing again and my body didn’t fear starvation, I went back to business as usual.

I never hit a stall longer than a week with this. Well, until month 9. By then I had lost almost 200 lbs and intentionally started eating more to slow down the weight loss as I slide into my goal weight.

You're 100% right!!! I have two little girls, 7 and 3. They need their daddy!! My grandpa was just like me--diagnosed with diabetes at 44 (same as me) and had the same stomach. He had his first heart attack at 46 and lost his leg to T2DM at 57. I am not going down that road if there is anything I can do about it!!!!!

I have a Nokia/Withings scale that pairs well with the LoseIt app that I use for food and exercise tracking. I find the Lose It app very easy to use and helpful with tracking macros and Protein and Water intake. The scale measure body fat and heart rate as well.

As of today's weigh in, I weigh exactly half of what I weighed when I began this journey! I've lost exactly 50% of my starting weight, and I've lost almost 85% of my excess weight! So glad I did this!

Talk to your doctor and his nutritionist and let them know your concern. Mine was the same until I asked if I could talk to the nutritionist. The doctor said many of his patients are not fully committed and he thinks they lose more quickly when not having to think about real food. He allowed me to work with my nutritionist and truly learn what I should eat. Good luck to you.

I was very stringent for the first couple months.. then started to allow myself to experiment with different less healthy stuff which in turn kind of had me off track for a few months.. didnt stop losing.. but I went into my dr last Thursday and they said I wasnt fully meeting expectations.. which I sort of knew.. but didnt want to admit it..

after the appointment I've made a drastic change back to a pretty low carb low calorie diet somewhere around 1000 -1300 calories a day.. and cutting out all of the junk foods I was eating.. it's only been 5 days since then but I've seen good results so far.. down 8 1/2 lbs since last Thursday give or take. Oh.. I had surgery on the 22nd of October of last year so it's been almost six months.

    Highest weight : 496
    Surgery weight : 476
    Current weight : 381

I put benefiber in my Water every day to help me go. In the beginning, I also used Miralax once a day. Your body is sluggish after surgery and with all of the Protein and little Fiber. Drink more water and add fiber. You do not want to get plugged up.

The first 6 months I walked religiously and worked on my endurance. I was pretty much sedentary prior to surgery. Aa I lost weight it became easier to move and then I felt I was ready for a challenge. I hired a professional trainer for the first month and learned what to do. I now feel better able to move and actually use the gym equipment. I recently started swimming too. Being in the Water is very freeing and you don't feel the sweat. 😀

    good luck to you.

I have joint pain too. And back pain. Doc said it is likely because our posture and gait fundamentally change when we lose weight and our bodies have to get used to it. He recommended physical therapy, which I'll start in a few weeks.

I've also experienced this. My chiropractor said it's pretty normal when you fundamentally change the way you move, which we do (often without realizing it) after losing significant amounts of weight.
I'm treating mine with chiropractic care and trying to build some muscle to help properly hold joints and things in place. I also have a massage scheduled soon!

My joint pain is better when I walk 60 mins everyday at the gym. If I miss a day or do the bike or short walk and weights I have hip pain at night. So I think exercise does help. My ortho did tell me as I lose weight I may experience new or changing pain in my hips and back as my center of gravity changes and or loose skin begins to pull in different ways than the fat did. But he said that would get better too, over time. Hang in there, hopefully it will get better for you.
