You've more than likely got a combination of both. The muscles are sutured. The skin is dermabonded (typically).

teddynola got a reaction from Pearldrop in 3 weeks and 3 days post op and have only lost 10 lbs
I was sleeved yesterday, and I gained 6 pounds over night! But, I realize that it's all of the IV fluids they pumped into me overnight.
I don't know how much you weighed pr-op, but generally, the more weight you have to lose, the faster it comes off, initially. Good luck, I'll be following your progress.

Does anyone do Keto? I find that it really works for me, but the dietition said they do not recommend keto. I'd like to give it a try after I go through all of the post-op phases of the diet. Any experiences will be greatly appreciated.

The problem with Keto as it was explained to my by my physician was the fact mpact on the liver can be bad and cause damage. So while you can adopt much of the keto principals going full keto was a going to be a problem if it was done for an extended period of time. It also worked for me in years pre op period but so did the diet that my dietitian had me on at the end.

i do low carb 50g or less daily but i don't do Keto because the Protein level is to restrictive for my taste.
if you can meet your marco's and get your micro nutrients from those levels i don't see a problem.
surgeons don't like anything that is not down the middle good for all cause they don't have time for one on one care so all the programs are designed to fit the avg. and cause the least problems.
track carefully and get regular blood panels and be prepared to stop if any issues come up in your blood work.
    good luck and enjoy

I hope you are feeling well after your surgery. Mine was yesterday, as well, I am home now and feel pretty good. A little sore, but none of the anticipated post-anesthesia nausea.
Good luck and I'll be following your progress.

    Just curious...
When you woke up from surgery, did you have traditional stitches or did your surgeon use Dermabond?
I was very surprised to find Dermabond this time. It was so much more comfortable. No pain, no pulling, no being careful with pants or waistbands, no fear of infections...just awesome!
I’ve had four other abdominal (laparoscopic) surgeries but always woke up to traditional stitches.

I am 2 years and 3 months post op and have had fibro for many years. I have lost a total of 145 lbs and I'm sorry to report I've had no decrease in my pain. In fact last week I had to go to my PCP and get a pain and steroid shot. I am also on Lyrica. I exercise regularly (walking or swimming) and that is not without pain.
My depression has greatly improved so it is easier to deal with the pain.
Of course just because this has been my experience doesn't mean you will have the same experience.
You will have many other benefits from your weight losd

I am June 4th, as well. However, my doctor said that I didn't have to do a liquid pre-op diet. Just do what I've been doing and don't gain weight. I decided to impose a one week, mostly liquid diet. I had a salad yesterday and a scrambled egg today. Same here, nervous, but excited too. I have a history of terrible post anesthesia nausea, so I'm very apprehensive about it. My surgeon is aware and she said that they will use everything in their arsenal to keep the nausea at bay. Good luck to all.

I have four weeks scheduled, but it's open ended. I came back a little too soon from my cholecystectomy, I won't do that again.

I have chronic pain and bouts of debilitating fatigue , which of couse, I ha e one of THOSE doctors that says it's in my head. One of my other doc believes me but it's a conflict of interest. Anyways, I was on that liquid diet for so long ànd nothing I had had gluten in it, so I've been gluten free for 8 weeks, I am pretty much pain free, my fatigue is related to nausea medication. I've discussed this with my surgeon's PA and dietician they say it's great, keep doing it. My sister in law is a nurse with moderate to severe celiac, so she helps and coaches me, and I ha e no use for bread and Pasta anyway. I did this before my surgery too, but the carbs were too tempting. This week I will start eating it again to 1. Prove my theory and 2. I want to get tested for real

I just want to thank every one here for there support. As of Thursday evening my story has completely changed. I will post a copy on this topic.
I'm almost afraid to say it, but at the same time I feel like I need to go outside and shout it from the roof tops! I feel amazing! I am an entirely new person. These first two months from surgery have been the most trying time in my entire life. Most days I couldn't get out of bed, and I wanted nothing more than to lay there and die. I struggled for the first month with muscle pain so severe I couldn't move. After that I struggled debilitating nausea. It got so bad that I hadn't eaten in over a month. On the rare occasion I would try the food would come right back up. Early last week it got so bad that I could no longer keep down Water. At this point I had been in the hospital 5 times for dehydration and different tests. I was taking protonix, Zofran, scopolamine Patches, Reglan, and I was wearing sea bands for motion sickness. None of these things could even take the edge off my nausea. My CT and my Upper GI were clear. My surgeons team kept telling me jit was all in my head. I was so severely depressed and felt like I had no where to go. I was beginning my surgeon for an EDG and she was refusing to give me one. After being unable to keep Water down for two days I went back to the ER and finally demanded I get the care I deserved. I was not going to leave there without answers. I was immediately admitted upon arrival where they found that my potassium levels were dangerously low. Lower than they have ever seen. I was given 6 bags of potassium and countless bags of Fluid to clear the dehydration. I also demanded the do the scope. The scope found slight narrowing that was able to be fixed on the spot. I don't know if it's the scope or the fluids, or potassium that cured me, but whatever it was I finally have my life back. I wake up ready to live every single day! I'm taking half the anti depressants I was before. I hated hated hated hated hated hearing people say it gets better. I was so convinced there was no way out for me. I would lay in bed waiting to die. But it got better. It got so much better. I am living breathing proof that it can all change. I encourage anyone struggling the way I did to advocate for themselves, the doctors and surgeons won't do it for you. I still can't say I would do this all over again, currently I am still too traumatized, but I have learned so much from this surgery. I had this surgery for myself and it was like I had forgotten that after surgery. I needed to still be fighting for myself. I know this is long but I just hope my story can help.

I am feeling remarkably well. I honestly couldn't get a straight answer from drs prior to surgery about how it might play out. Chronic fatigue dr said to be aware that surgery can always be a cfs episode trigger. My bariatric dr said in the patients he's seen, they have generally improved at least a little.

Pain is an issue and can't take anti-inflammatories. But, dr also said the surgery can sometime knock down inflammation.

Compared to my normal, I'm feeling great. And I'm hoping it lasts, but after 30 years of cfs, find it hard to not anticipate the downturn. But, doing my best, following all drs orders and getting all necessary nutrients, fluids, and movement for proper healing. And pacing myself. Plenty of rest both before and after surgery.

Been battling ME/CFS for over two years. Spent thousands on specialists. All the rheumatologist wants to do is to use drugs to suppress the immune system. No, not doing it. Discussed at length with bariatric surgeon who indicated that weight loss helps a normal person’s energy level to increase, and that joint pain is reduced by the fact that your skeleton is not hauling excess fat, straining connective tissue, and so on. I was told that if I elected the sleeve that I would have some improvement. It certainly did help my overall health and the fibromyalgia pain seems less intense (but I clearly grapple with it). I am down 50 lbs in 4 months, I did NOT bounce back like others do — it took me 3 weeks before I could function. The chronic fatigue was horrendous. I decided that because I had most of my stomach removed, that I would only eat healthy nutritional foods, clean organic foods and began my Probiotics. Fat stores toxins, I felt like crap as my body rapidly shed weight, hormones began to fluctuate and I seriously thought I had maimed myself further until I noticed that my vision wasn’t so blurred as before, the dry eye was better, I had less anxiety, sensitivity to light and startling at loud sounds. I went from Bone Broth to organic Protein, fish, veggies and keep craving REAL lemonade (no sugar). Introduced oregano oil as well as my bariatric Vitamin supplements. Started walking (5-10 minutes a day on treadmill). By 10 weeks out I was feeling almost human. At the core of my being, I feel there has been an improvement in my central nervous system but not one doctor can substantiate why. Considering where I was 1 year ago, this is a big turn around. I am by no means cured, I still have down days where I just need to rest. I budget my energy and log everything I put in my mouth. I have no cravings for carbs anymore, I don’t drink sodas and seldom eat bread or any kind of Pasta. Bottom line is that I believe that gut was the primary cause of everything going whack — add to that a high stress career, a history of having a horrible case of mono, massive antibiotics after surgeries. My body just shut down and I was getting angry and depressed because these doctors have no clue. ME/CFS is real. In my case, VSG helped me but it wasn’t easy. The struggle is real.

I told/tell everyone. I get it's personal, but it's also YOUR journey so their opinions don't matter... so telling them isn't going to change that fact for me. I just knew that I'd be out for a long time, and people would question why I was out anyway. And when I came back, I'd be eating differently and looking differently, so the questions would arise then as well. For me, getting in front of it all helped allow me to control the narrative and prevent anyone that might try to spread rumors from doing so. Clearly it's an individual decision, I just wanted to take complete control over what was being said, so I just laid everything out on the table.

Check into Bone Broth. There are some commercial ones, but you can make your own in a crockpot. It contains collagen and Protein. Some don’t taste that great, but you can simmer them with some onion garlic and celery and it’s quite tasty, as well as good for you.
