  1. Quest bars are my favorite. Some people complain they are nasty but it’s a matter of opinion. There are so many flavors you’re bound to find one that floats your boat! The more popular flavors are sold in bulk in boxes of 4 or 8 at Walmart and Sams Club, dropping the price down to about $2 a bar.
  2. Have you contacted your surgeon? You might have a stricture.
  3. I remember taking my nausea meds for 5 or 6 days postop
  4. Nope, haven’t been in contact with my NUT about the issue.
  5. I read somewhere that going to a sauna helps get the nicotine out of the system.
  6. I started having coffe once a week during the first months postop. Now I’m back to drinking it daily. It’s a light roast though that I add caramel protein drink to as a creamer.
  7. I’ve tried twice now to make lentil soup. The first time we didn’t think about de-gassing them and a few bites caused incredible bloating and pain. Last night I brought the lentils to a boil. Rinsed them and added new water and baking soda to soak them overnight. Rinsed them again tonight before cooking and they still caused me to bloat uncomfortably. I don’t get it - when I go eat Indian food lentils don’t bother me but when I try to make them at home I’ve had nothing but trouble.
  8. No you aren't being stupid. Sadly it sounds like your surgeon doesn't want to address your issues and actually treat you. Go to your primary care physician for a wellness check and see if they can address your health concerns.
  9. So I had never heard of this and looked into what it was. You definitely want to check your iron levels and make sure that you aren't anemic at all. In order to get the Platelet Rich Plasma that they use for injection they have to take a good amount of blood and basically spin off all the components of the blood to separate the Platelets from the red blood cells and plasma. I don't know how much blood they need and if they do their own lab work to make sure you're not anemic before they take the sample. Ask a lot of questions! Sounds cool though!
  10. Oh my heart breaks for you. I can't tell you if it gets better or not but I sure hope it does for you. I'm so sorry.
  11. I'm not on board with them. They are too new and I don't want to gamble my health on something that hasn't been tested enough. If people that don't take their vitamins at all can claim that their labs look good, then it means it may take years for a deficiency to show up. The same logic can be applied to vitamin patches. Personally, while a lot of people like the idea of slapping a patch on, I prefer not to have sticky residue of a patch on me. I did with the birth control patch for about a month and absolutely hated it. Popping a single multivitamin at bedtime is convenient enough for me.
  12. I'm close to hitting that 100lb lost mark. I lost 15 pounds in my 6 months prep, 15 pounds during my 2 week preop liquid diet and the rest in the last 7 months since my surgery. So it is possible but not guaranteed - everyone is different.
  13. So I have two thoughts. First is the charlie horses might be from a vitamin or mineral deficiency. Are you taking your vitamins and getting your labs tested like you're supposed to? Second is that the scar tissue you feel is kind of 'taking over' your whole abdomen and causing the charlie horses and kinking the bowel and causing the GI problems. Whatever it is I hope you get it figured out soon! If you do have gallbladder disease and the scar tissue problems they can generally be fixed in one surgery.
  14. I don't think the pickles caused you to gain actual weight. It's likely that the high sodium content caused you to retain water. Maybe try to find a low sodium variety but I don't think you need to avoid pickles altogether. Be sure to drink plenty of water to help flush it out. I know it sounds counter productive but it works.
  15. Has anyone been told about Phytic Acid? So a couple months ago I was researching about different things that interfere with vitamin and mineral absorption and came across an article about Phytic Acid (found in plant based foods). “Phytic acid is not a health concern for those who follow a balanced diet. However, those at risk of an iron or zinc deficiency should diversify their diets and not include high-phytate foods in all meals.” Guys it MIGHT BE A COINCIDENCE but my hair loss slowed dramatically when I stopped eating phytic acid containing foods with my multivitamins. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/phytic-acid-101
  16. I went to a Brazilian steakhouse with my husband. You know the ones where they bring the cuts of meat to your table. So I got a little bit of different cuts of steak, chicken, pork, and lamb. I loved having the variety and don't regret doing it at all.
  17. It doesn't seem like you're being impulsive. You're doing your research. Joining this forum and hopefully others will give you a good idea of people's experiences and not just the clinical information. Most bariatric programs and insurance companies make it a 3-6 month program so that people aren't getting the surgery impulsively anyway. (At least, American ones, I guess I can't speak to how it works in the UK)
  18. I'm about 7 months out. I haven't picked up cocoa roasted almonds but I got some chocolate PB2 and I've been enjoying that on rice cakes.
  19. Rice cakes with chocolate PB2 - a fabulous sweet treat!
  20. I just bought the cutest pair of cowgirl boots. I can't wait to wear them with sundresses and skirts this summer. Its always a look I thought was super cute on slender women but harder to pull off when you're plus sized.
  21. I didn’t get on the scale until I was a whole month out. First month was a 14lb weight loss
  22. I think as long as you are past the soft food stage that cauliflower rice would be okay
  23. I didn't lose a shoe size but I went from needing an 8.5 wide to any 8.5 that I want!
  24. I was one of those lower BMI patients. My BMI was 39.6- 40 depending on my water weight that day. I did get a lot of people telling me I wasn't big enough to need WLS. But for me it wasn't about my size, I was about my struggles. I felt like I had been dieting all my adult life and only getting heavier as the years passed. "Why don't you just diet and exercise?" they'd ask. Well thats what I tried to do when I was only a BMI of 33! I don't know if that helps. You have a lot of good responses on this thread and my two cents might just sound like white noise. But it seems to me you are doing the right thing by getting on forums and learning about people's struggles and successes and how WLS has changed their life. One resounding theme that keeps coming up is that people only regret not doing it sooner.
  25. I think it started out I had a high stress situation and that nasty little voice in my head told me chocolate would make it all better. I'm detoxing right now. No more chocolate for me!
