  1. Does that brand have vitamin D as well?
  2. I read this posted by someone else on the site once and its really stuck with me: Surgery IS NOT the easy way out, but let's say it was. Why is that a bad thing? Why wouldn't he want an easy solution for your problem. Why is easy inherently evil in this situation? Can you imagine if someone said that about cancer? "You have cancer, but it's easily treated." "Yeah, no thanks. I don't want to take the easy way out."
  3. I thought it was hilarious. I've only been wandering these forums for 2 months and made similar observations. I haven't posted a whole lot but I hope I haven't been one to cause you to roll your eyes and groan. Creekimp, I actually always look for your comments because I find them insightful and just enough "tough love" without being offputting (in my opinion anyway) and I hope you continue to stick around. Also, I love you, I think we should be BESTIES!! LOL
  4. Thank you everyone for your responses! I'm so glad I found this forum for support and gathering real life experiences. I appreciate it so much! Many of you were correct, the surgeon didn't even read the forms, they were for insurance purposes. We just sat and talked about why I was ready to take the surgery route and whether it was the right decision for me. So far so good, have EGD, gallbladder sonograms, EKGs and labs scheduled for April. Making plans for the psych consult and pre op class I have to take. Looking at a mid July surgery date! I hope it goes faster than it feels right now!
  5. I'm SO nervous about my first consult with the surgeon tomorrow. Especially with this form I'm having to fill out: "Why do you think you failed with other diet programs?" I dunno! Lack of self control, loss of motivation. Whats the answer he is looking for? Is there a right one? IS THERE A WRONG ONE? Why is this freaking me out so much?!
  6. Has anyone had surgery using the DaVinci - either sleeve or RNY? Curious about any positive or negative outcomes of the technique.
  7. In my opinion it’s more important for you to keep your stress levels low than it is to keep your surgeon happy. I think Creekimp13 nailed it - surgeons care about what their numbers look like. Really what is your surgeon going to do if you don’t meet his numbers? Undo your surgery? Take your birthday away? Try not to stress about it and congrats on the process you have made! [emoji322]
  8. Yay! How exciting for you! Congrats![emoji322]
  9. After talking about WLS surgery with my husband and getting his full support, I finally had my first visit with my pcp this week and scheduled the consult with the surgeon next month. He knows I need to star losing weight, and yes I do have 6 whole months to do it in. But today he came home the store with a package of chocolate chip cookies, carton of ice cream, and two bags of chips! I don’t have a specific plan in mind to lose my BCBS required 5%. I’ve started with eliminating soda and packing lean cuisines and fruit for lunch instead of heading to the cafeteria for chicken strips, cheeseburgers and fries and the like. Looking for diet advice during those months of medically supervised weight loss. Thanks in advance
  10. I’m willing to bet it’s poor wording. I can’t imagine an insurance company willing to pay for bypass but not the sleeve. It’s probably because bypass is the more known procedure and people not familiar with bariatric surgery don’t know about or think about the sleeve.
  11. Congrats on your big victory! I don’t think the doctor is looking for the nicotine to have cleared in 3 months so much as he’s wanting you to have had a handle on your smoking addiction for three months. You’re about to go through some big changes in your life and he wants to make sure you can handle that kind of stress without wanting to reach for a cigarette to cope.
  12. I’m sorry to hear that. My best friend has been through several diets with me and while I have continually failed, she has been very successful the last two years. She was the first person I told when I started considering wls. She doesn’t think I need it and thinks I’d be successful if I try what she has been doing. But even though she wouldn’t choose it for me she always supports me. I hope your friendship stays strong through your surgery. Find another person to be your support for this and try not to let it get in the way of a great friendship. Good luck and enjoy your cruise this summer!
  13. Keep your head up! There is nothing wrong with a slow steady weight loss. And a benefit is that your skin is more likely to catch up and shrink with you.
  14. I don’t have experience in this but honestly I wouldn’t think a permanent on hair that is struggling to stay healthy is a good idea at all.
  15. IVe been asking this question a lot too since my BMI is right at 40. All the answers I’ve received - even from the Bariatric program coordinator at my surgeons office - tell me no, the BMI they look at is your starting BMI. That being said, I’ve had a couple people recommend that you don’t lose any more weight than the insurance company’s required percentage. Good luck!
  16. What firming lotion have you been using?
  17. It may be up to 4 or 5 hours between getting out. I’m wondering if since I work with people that know specifically how and why Id need to drink often that they could accommodate it.
  18. Hi all! Im hoping to get some input on this. I’m still in the process of getting information before making a decision to go through with WLS. One thing that greatly concerns me is getting dehydrated. I’m a surgical nurse and we aren’t exactly allowed to carry water bottles around with us in the operating room. I already struggle to get water in now while I can gulp it down. Surely this isn’t the only job where this is an issue, so I wondered if anyone had input regarding my concern. How do you manage? DO you manage or have you had issues where you’ve gotten sick? Thanks in advance!
  19. Thanks, I’m just getting started with the whole process! I’ve signed up for a seminar the surgeon does monthly and made an appointment with my PCP.
  20. I’m concerned getting insurance approval because I’ve never attempted a diet program under a doctor or nutritionist. I have done multiple diets over the years but I have no proof! I had WW membership 8 years ago but no documents and only a handwritten journal from 2 years ago. How much proof of previous diet attempts do companies need? Is this going to be a denial point for me or am I worrying for nothing ?
