Is Weight Loss Surgery for Me?
Well we're all a little biased here, most of us would say YES GO FOR IT! Do a lot of research on your own. You need to make this decision for you, you cant rely on us or your mom who I'm sure has your best interest in mind but is likely focusing on nothing but horror stories and ignoring the overwhelming success stories. My advice is to browse forums and support groups like this one and get an idea of peoples' real life struggles. But Look up MEDICAL JOURNALS for information about complication rates. Don't go off what a handful of people's perceptions and opinions are regarding which surgery is right for you. I'm very happy I had my sleeve done. There are frustrating times, when I'm eating something so yummy I want to pig out and can't! I miss soft buttery bread but know that's not in my best interest to include in my meals. I've developed lactose intolerance and have keep lactaid handy anytime I want yogurt, cheese, or a protein bar. But these nuisances are nothing compared to the hassles being overweight was.

Spinning Lessons.
- Well thats a surprise!
Congratulations on your news! Sorry I don't have any advice, youll have to ask your OB and nutritionist about that!- Day 2 post op
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I'd be sure to mention it in followup like nenes78 suggests. Hospitals often rely on patient satisfaction surveys and you saying something can make a difference for future WLS patients there.- Coffee
I thought that too. I started treating myself to once a week, then it was twice a week, now its back to everyday. If you want to permanently kick the habit now is just as good a time as any to do it.- 28 days post op
Hey Brandy! It sounds like youre doing great. I wouldn't worry about stalls this early out. Almost everyone hits them at this stage and its a normal part of your body just trying to figure things out. So no need to change up what youre eating. Ricotta bake is a great option if youre craving pizza! Check out Pinterest for recipes.- Is it normal at 10 mos out to be able to eat more?
Yeah I'm 9 months out and experiencing that too. I have to pay a lot more attention to my portion sizes and my full signals. I can graze like nobody's business.- Spinning Lessons.
Youre brave. I've never had the guts to try spinning. I like Zumba and other dance type classes. Even though I have no rhythm and look like a fool its still fun and makes me sweat it up.- BP Store Wishlist
I agree! I would like this as well! I only make orders every 3 months once I built up points and have a large enough order for the free shipping!- Coffee
Yes that was me postop. Can you treat yourself to a once a week light roast decaf and protein drink for creamer?- Loose skin causing UTI?
This seems odd to me. Even with loose skin in those areas your labia should be protecting your urethra from excess bacteria accumulating. It might be time to see a urologist if you haven't already.- Drinking water as a teacher
Is there a rule about having drinks out during class? I wouldnt think it would be a big deal. Hydration is so important, I would just do it. I’m a surgery nurse and policies say no drinks in the OR and besides that I’m wearing a mask covering my mouth all day! I almost NEVER hit my hydration goal.- Redefining ‘cheat’
You handled it well. The important thing is that you didn’t throw your whole day out because you had the crisps. Because then you’ll end up throowing out the next day and then it’s just “I’ll start again on Monday...”- regret not doing this sooner
I think this is a common sentiment. I’ve seen it a lot anyway. It’s probably the number one “regret” I see on support groups and forums. As I was concidering the surgery and asking myself “do I really need to do this now? I don’t weigh that much.” But seeing comments like that helped push me to say “yeah why not” youre doing great! Keep up the good work!- Multivitamin One
Egh. Not me, I couldn't stand the chewables. If they don't have capsules then its no deal for me! To each their own I guess- Stall in the soft food stage
Don't worry about stalls right now! Your body is going through a lot of changes and doesn't know what is going on! My advice is to stay off the scale and focus on your fluid and protein intake. The weight loss will come, you just need to be patient.- Stuck food
When food gets stuck in my sleeve I just suffer through it without trying to push it down with fluids - that always seemed to make it 10x worse- Frequent Periods Post-op
I have an IUD and had a lot of breakthrough bleeding at that stage as well. I never specifically talked to my doctor about it but from what I can see from other women its not uncommon after the surgery.- Patience
You'll find all kinds of individuals in groups like this. Guess it depends on where your mind is as far as finding someone "like minded". Some are super strict with what they eat, some are very nonchalant. This forum in particular has been my favorite and is now the only one I still participate in. Its no nonsense but not without occasional drama. Plus participating in the forum gets you discounts in the store which is a great source for high protein food items especially in the early eating stages after your surgery.- Copay
You should be able to find that information with your carrier so it won't be a surprise.- Abnormal EKG
My EKG was abnormal and I had to get a cardiologist consult. Turns out I have abnormal ventricular relaxation which is a mild congestive heart failure. Short of treating any hypertension and cholesterol levels the only thing that can help that is *ding ding ding* losing weight and exercising! So in my case the abnormal EKG actually helped get me approved for WLS.- Multivitamin One
I bought several months supply of ProCare before Bariatric Pal launched theirs. Going to compare them and possibly try One when I run out.- First thing you ate when you were cleared for normal food
I can't remember the first thing when I was cleared for any food. When I was cleared for pureed though I dragged my husband to the nearest Indian food restaurant. (My surgeon is very conservative with diet progression and I was on full liquids for 6 weeks) I was ready for something savory and spicy!- Protein in vs Calories in
My surgeon's goals for me are a minimum of 60 grams of protein and no more than 1200 calories a day. Most days I hit around 1000 calories.- How did you decide the sleeve was for you and any regrets?
Why thank you! - Well thats a surprise!
