Oh goodness I don’t want the “NOT feeling full” after having surgery! This is one of the issues I need- serving size!

I went with the sleeve. It’s easily controlled with a PPI, but if I forget it there’s hell to pay. LOL

Hmmmm. I haven't gotten to those threads yet so I dunno. (It's not my day to watch the kids. ) You should ask @Creekimp13!!! But, um, just sayin--I'm probably not the right person to ask, since I inherently LOVE and look forward to reading the real meaty drama threads. So a perv might be a fun break from monotony!

Ha! It's a blessing and a curse for her. She calls me "her little rule follower" cuz I try very hard to know the borders of my parameters and explore to find out "is this in or out of bounds"? LOL. I'm sure I drive her crazy!
And I have written books. I used to keep my low carb Keto blog. I just haven't posted to it in about 2 years (or more) cuz my lymphedema has gotten so bad in my left arm, that doing the meal prep, photography, and then the recipe development and blog posts were just too much and made my arm, side, back, and neck swell too much. So I quit. Hanging out here is ok, cuz I can sit in my recliner with my left arm on pillows and type on a lap top, one handed. It allows the arm to keep the fluids more drained. I'm stage2 so that means, that gravity will still allow partial drainage.
Here's my old blog Fluffy Chix Cook http://fluffychixcook.com/
There are a lot of low carb recipes that would be good for us, but sadly, the quantities are all wrong for post surg and you'd be eating some of the recipes for years. LOL. But some of the fiber "bread-type" stuff would/might be good.
Here are the books I've written. I specialized in recreating low carb analogs of food I grew up with--particularly for "feast" or celebratory meals. http://fluffychixcook.com/fluffy-chix-newsstand/store/

I was going to call this Break On Through To The Other Side (thank you Doors). But I figured I'd get sick of it after a while. I'm going to use this space to keep track on the 2 week march toward surgery and then to keep track of the recovery and progress. That way I can keep it all together and if I just do one thread, it's all in one place without clogging up the Blog Area. I'm sure it's gonna be excruciatingly boring to everyone--me included! I'm a list and minutia kinda gal. I like tracking and counting--although I can be equally lax about crap. So I stop just short of OCD town (not that there's anything wrong with that).
My official 2 week liquid diet starts tomorrow. I decided to jump on it today because Sunday feels like a great place to start and because it's hard to do better than yesterday as my last food day before surgery. I'm a Texan, born and raised, and yesterday we had a fairwell to my ass and thighs via a Texas BBQ tour through Houston and Tomball. I ate so much brisket, sausage and ribs, I can honestly claim to be over it. Growing up in a BBQ family, slow smoked meats is almost in my blood. So it was only natural that I would choose that as the last rights.
I'm having RNY on February 20th and as I understand it, moist (fatty) brisket might not be my friend post surgery. Supposedly high fat foods (which moist brisket is) might cause a sort of "dumping" in the poop department. So I figure my future, once healed, might only include lean cuts of brisket and smoked meats. It's a choice I will readily make to lose weight and get my health back.
So the morning Day 1 hasn't been very difficult--a little hunger and growly tummy, but nothing that makes me feel anxiety. Protein Drinks on board and this afternoon will shop for SF popsicles, SF Jello and Bone Broth. I think I'll stick to packaged bone broth so I can get the actual nutritional information from a certified source. There's no real way for me to tell how many calories and carbs are in the bone broth I make here at home.
My Pre-Op Plan includes: 80-100g of protein; low fat; 60g carbs and somewhere around 1000cals per day.
4-5 Protein drinks containing a minimum of 15g of protein per serving. They must be low fat and low sugar and can't contain over 4g of sugar per serving. I can have clear low sodium broths, sugar free drinks, sugar free jello and sugar free clear popsicles (no fudgsicles or ice cream based pops).
I will do this from now until February 20th.
I'm pretty sure I will be doing plenty of the following:

Most importantly practice not drinking 30 minutes before, after or during meals. That is what also helped me loose weight preop, I have surgery next week , same insurance

Thanks! I don’t have many foods to cut out except sugar. I don’t drink anything but Water, a 80-120 oz a day. The struggle will be the 30 min time crunch before and after food. I drink A LOT with food!
I guess I need to talk to the dietitian or office nurse too.

Hey!!! I was actually dealing with this same problem. In fact, on my last weight in had lost 6-7 pounds and managed to stayed exactly on 243- with a bmi of ***40.6** . Believe it or not meal prepping will save your life during these 6 months . I stopped drinking juice, bread etc. I would make fresh juice with some kale etc when I wanted juice . I would eat oatmeal in the morning with some fruits , and tea(a bit of honey) , chicken breast ( or ground turkey) and a small amount of rice and a side of vegetables, sometimes I would have farina and alooot of Water and ***teaaaa specially chai or black tea with milk( loove it ) . Good luck . Time will fly .

I gained 12 lbs in the 6 months (lost the first two months then gained through the holidays) and I still got approved, surgery in 10 days. Don't stress but track your food and try to be active. Drink tons of water! Good luck!

Just a heads up, My surgeon’s office is very strict on this. On all my pre op paperwork there’s a warning. You cannot gain during pre op. Check with your surgeon’s office. I asked my patient liason about losing too much weight at the beginning of the six months. She told me that the weight you are at your surgical consult is the one that they submit to insurance! I felt so much better.
If you’re required to see a dietician, I’d would start there. They will have tips and goals for you.
Focus on drinking enough Water. At least 64 oz a day.
High Protein. Aim for 80-100g a day. Keep carbs lower than protein.
Eliminate soda and caffeine. You can’t have either for a few months after surgery (most say never again for soda).
Cut down on meals eaten out. Learn to cook new things or your favorites in a healthy way.
They will also tell you to start chewing each bite 30 times, and to start getting yourself used to having to stop drinking liquids 30 min before and 30 min after each meal.

I have UHC and the main thing to focus on is that your first appointment weight CAN NOT be less than your last.

That is the way they make you start over.
So my first appointment I was 309 now at 6th month I am at 282. Because my doctor told me out rocks in your pocket of you have to, but make sure you do not weigh more on the 6th month than when you started.

I don't have Tips I just started being more aware of my good choices as I realised I was not going to wake up SEXY AND THIN after the surgery I began to take this surgery as a TOOL not the ANSWER to my weight loss.

Took me over a year and a half to get to where I am emotionally. I am glad I waited and understood I HAVE TO CHANGE MY CHOICES IN MY LIFE!

My knees are bad, and I just can't live like this anymore.

So just start being accountable for what you are eating and what you are not doing that has got you to the point that you need to have a surgery to improve your health. That is what i did.

So choice stairs or elevator. Tortilla or lettuce leaf to wrap your taco, actually does help in the long run too.

Hope this helped. I no longer struggle as much with food choices. I have to come to grips with binging when sad. Which my children have now began to help me by making me meet them at the store in the day time.

With inclusion from them and actually them really helping with my I NEVER WANT TO LEAVE MY HOUSE, time in My life. I have to deal with my anxieties. So I have less time to think of my childhood or give any of the bad times in my life a second thought.

If you consider not stocking your cabinets with bad foods then that makes it harder to eat them.

I ask myself am I hungry or bored? Am I sad or hungry? Am I mad or hungry?

I also became vegan 6 months ago for the sake of animals. I think that had helped some too.

I am not saying you must go vegan, I am saying vegetarian is a great way to start changing your habits.

I downloaded an app for bullet journaling and that has a tracker of how I felt everyday. I noticed a few patterns and made less time for those moments.

I am not running from my past. I just have never recieved the closure needed because those that hurt me don't care or realize that they did anything wrong. I am okay with most, I just pushed them all out of my life because they brough my self pity and anger out all the time.

This is way to long and probably will not be received as a "these things helped me"

I am really trying to help.

I had it on 12/11 and my diabetes is gone and I’ve dropped 45# so far. BP is 120/58 and I can eat most foods. Heavy carbs makes me feel like crap. But I eat mist what I want just smaller portions and a lot of Protein Shakes. Good luck!

Awe Stacy, you got this honey! Something that is sticking to me is what my surgeon said. Bypass helps with the eating of course but also the biology. Something contributes to obesity. Whatever it is (a million variables like thyroid, metabolism blah blah), bypass hits the serving size and helps with the bio. There's a cartoon type video on her website I would be happy to private message you to see if you're interested :-)

I am currently in my 2nd month of UnitedHealthCare required doctor monitored 6 month diet before surgery.
Does anyone have tips on this? How to answer the Doctor on what to do? WHAT to do without loosing TOO much without being denied by falling under the 40BMI required? I actually think I gained this month!! And I’m struggling with 5 more months of “diet and exercise tips” to tell the doctor... or is that actually the reality??
Please Help I’m new and confused
