  1. I very scientifically bought and tasted about 10 different products...had my family taste them, too. Premier Protein, hands down, was the most tolerable (to us, anywho) Some were truly gagworthy. Best Wishes!
  2. I know it's not super helpful advice....but seriously....you can't go off road. You need to make these decisions with the people doing the surgery and caring for you as you heal. Carb restrictive diet before surgery shrinks the liver and gives the surgeon space to work safely next to that spleen. (this depends a bit on the surgeon and their technique) But yeah....gotta work with your program and communicate everything. Safety first. Best wishes!
  3. You need to speak to your surgical team about your concerns and follow their instructions.
  4. My list would be... 1. Health. 2. Mobility. 3. Longevity. 4. Family 5. Looks 6. Romance (Will admit this might rank differently if I were not married to a solid guy for 25 years)
  5. Everyone has different reasons for wanting weight loss surgery. Here are a few common reasons. Rank them in order of importance to you, personally. (There are no right or wrong answers) Just thought it would be interesting to see what motivates folks here on BP. Looks...feeling attractive and confident Health...resolving health issues, getting off meds, decreasing risk for illness Mobility...gaining new opportunities provided by more athleticism and mobility Longevity...adding years to your life with decreased risk of illness and healthier lifestyle Romance....wanting to be attractive for your partner or in pursuit of a partner Family.....motivation to do the surgery for the people you love. Decrease their worry, set an example for kids, ability to be more active and involved with loved ones. Others I forgot....add any others you think are important!
  6. Eat more. Starvation level calories cause your body to halt weight loss to survive. Sounds counter intuitive, I know, but the reason you lost more with weight watchers is that you were eating a more reasonable number of calories and not setting off physiological defense mechanisms that safeguard against starvation.
  7. Pre-surgical anxiety is extremely common.
  8. Eat more. You are starving your body into halting weight loss.
  9. Also, if you go to Mexico...make sure you have a support doctor at home who can help if anything comes up. Keep everyone in the loop.
  10. Also....talk to your group about the calories you're eating and your inability to get your vitamins in....they might want to run some bloodwork to see if you're running short on iron. They'll have some good suggestions for helping you to get your diet straightened out, too. Hang in there...it gets better:)
  11. Avocados and nuts are packed with calories and are very healthy foods that go down very easy. Consider protein bars, greek yogurt, refried beans, baked potato with lowfat cheese on top. All good early foods. Good luck!
  12. You can get a pill crusher from the pharmacy...crush your pills and swallow the powder with a little sugar free Cool Whip. Works terrific! Get your protein in, even if you hate it. You need to protect your muscles from wasting....one of your muscles that can be harmed is your heart...so work hard on your protein goal. (drink the gross shakes if you have to) Make sure you're drinking enough water, too. Best wishes!
  13. Isn't feeling sexy af...like....the best feeling in the world? LOL! Thanks! I'm pretty excited:)
  14. WOOT! Lookin good, Sillykitty!
  15. As it happens...I just took a poo...and hit goal:) LOL! I've already talked to my nutritionist about stopping the loss (knew goal was coming in the next week or two and discussed it last week). Will up my calories to 1400-1600 and see if that doesn't do the trick:) Still planning on eating really healthy, but it will be nice to have an extra calorie budget for more whole grains, fruits, healthy snacks after work outs. Will not be slowing up on my activity. Have started running again, and I'm addicted. Feels so damned good to be able to run again!!! Bring on the oatmeal with dried cherries and pecans for breakfast! Throw a little more avocado in my BLT wrap:) A yasso frozen yogurt bar after dinner? Don't mind if I do:) Will still keep my refined carbs under 75 calories per day, and will eat tons of beans, nuts and delicious stuff. LOVE my forever diet:)
  16. 1200 calories per day since week three after surgery. Will be upping calories to 1400-1600 for maintenance.
  17. By the way....when you put your whiskey and water in a 16 ounce glass as described in your post......how many ounces of each are you using?
  18. MIZ, I have to ask...as a nurse practitioner, do you advise all bariatric patients to drink vodka and taquila SIX WEEKS after surgery...or just the ones who like it? One or two drinks a day is great, right?
  19. If you think saying....nurses must stay within the outlined scope of their practice is "derogatory and disrespectful" you have more issues than any comment here can address. Which, actually, you've already proven. Wishing you luck, MIZ....I have a feeling you're gonna need it. Be well.
  20. Crossover addiction is real. Work with your therapist and take it seriously. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/317555.php
  21. Could you please post a link to any post in which I made derogatory remarks about nurses? Given that it doesn't exist, I'm quite curious!
  22. Did you mean "grammar" by any chance?
  23. I referred to human beings as members of the taxonomic family Hominidae...The Great Apes. Because...well...THEY FACTUALLY ARE:) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hominidae I was talking about my own diet and why I've chosen it. The rest of the great apes eat a very small amount of animal protein, they get the vast majority of their protein from plant based sources and the vast majority of their natural diet is fruit and vegetation. We're kinda of built to run on carbs. If you look at the populations of the world who enjoy the most longevity, Japanese diet and Mediterranean diet...are correlated with the longest lifespans, the lowest instance of heart disease and cancer....and are very similar to the diets of other great apes. Lots of plant protein and plant fats, lots of fiber, lots of fruit, fermentation. Carnivorous mammals don't live very long. For instance...a tiger will live about 15 years and an ape will live about 40. Here's a great ape and a tiger. The ape is....me... in Africa, in 1995. The tiger is, well...a Bengal tiger:) This was years ago when I was a young stupid researcher:) Now, I'm an old stupid researcher. LOL
  24. Flat out Light... is high protein, high fiber, low cal. They don't taste too bad:) I like to wrap up some turkey bacon, avocado, tomato and lettuce in them. High protein can be helpful for getting your protein in. High fiber helps you poo...and helps grow a good gut microbiome They're whole wheat...which is metabolized slower than white flour and doesn't cause hunger spikes. Better glycemic index:)
