  1. The cricket powder isn't so bad, I swear all the little legs and antenna are ground up fine! LOL Still tastes a bit like lawn clippings with some almond thrown in....not bad, really, kinda gritty. Not for everyone:)
  2. I'll admit it outright. I miss Pepsi Cola. I love it, and I miss it...desperately. Real Pepsi. Not diet...diet is gross. LOL. But here's the deal. I've tried drinking it....about a dozen times....with very little success. I take about three tiny sips and feel like I'm gonna pop. It's crazy bloating and really uncomfortable. On my birthday, I was hell bent to let myself drink a glass of Pepsi as a super rare treat. I sipped it down about a half an inch and couldn't do it. it made me incredibly sad. I passed it to my hubby and he swallowed the glass down in two gulps. The taste was still really really good....but there is no way in hell I could drink more than an ounce or two and not feel like Violet in Willy Wonka. The Oompa Loompas would have to roll me to the juicing room. I LOVE cola. Cola no longer loves me. It kinda...downright hates me. And I honestly feel a little sad about that. I know it's terrible stuff and that I'm better off that I can't drink it....but man, I really thought I'd be able to have it once in a blue moon. Not in the cards for me. Weirdly...I honestly am kinda grieving it a little bit. I know it's all for the best....but I'm still a little sad about it. Like corn on the cob. LOL. On the other hand...I've discovered I love iced constant comments tea.
  3. Pea protein + brown rice protein= a complete amino acid You can add this to all sorts of foods...I put it on veggie soup to give it some protein. Tofu Mycoprotein = Protein from fungus Quorn products There's a lot of proein in whole grain foods, beans, insects (if you're brave..lol), nuts, seeds, etc.. If you don't know how to make Chia pudding....google it...it's wonderful.
  4. My diet isn't entirely meat free, but I do eat a lot of fruit, nuts, seeds, beans, tofu, etc. My advice: Work with a dietitian who has done bariatric diet follow up for people eating a vegan or vegetarian diet. it's a bit of a special niche...but if you look, you'll find someone good. Make some calls. Avoid regular pastas....but give the protein pastas a try. They're excellent!
  5. Since she's the one making the error and inconveniencing you....perhaps you should tell the doctor on her instead? Not maliciously, of course, but doctors do appreciate polite feedback on how their staff is doing.
  6. Smooth Move tea. I was a skeptic....but am now a true believer.
  7. I have a vet surgeon...who is actually a member of the board that certifies bariatric surgeons here. My liver was pretty good before surgery because I'd lost 35 pounds. I still had to do a two week ketogenic diet "for extra safety." My surgeon is a very type A perfectionist. (great trait for a surgeon...wouldn't want to marry him...lol)
  8. Many (but not all) doctors use a VERY low carb diet just before surgery to shrink the liver and make surgery safer.
  9. Given that doctors have absolutely no consensus on post surgical diet... you pay your money and take your chances. Watch your butt and don't go crazy. The best answer is....stick to your program flawlessly. The realistic answer? Do your best not to be stupid.
  10. Worrying about what other people think....ultimately...is on you. Don't give it your energy. Your energy is needed elsewhere:)
  11. Doing great:) Almost at goal.
  12. My kiddo is college age and was my biggest cheerleader. I feel a little bad I had surgery over her finals....but she stayed at school and phoned her Dad and it worked out great.
  13. Ok, today I had to stop my husband from walking out of the house....in a pair of my skinny jeans. Bahahahahaha! This would NEVER have happened in my size 22 days. He's like....Ok, I thought they fit weird, but I couldn't figure out why. D'Oh!
  14. That seems reasonable. Lot of changes going on....having a little time to get his head around them seems fair. In the mean time, try to reconnect with what brought you close in the past. Maybe a weekend trip to an old haunt, time for just the two of you, take the focus off the awkward, and put it on something that is easy for both of you. Maybe indulge one of his interests and see if he loosens up. If I take my husband to anyplace with airplanes or NASA crap...he's like a kid and it scratches that particular "she cares about me" itch. We used to go out on a boat fishing and take a picnic and read to each other. Reconnect to less stressful days....might help. And if thing are still in the crapper in 2019...hold him to his word and go talk to someone. Best wishes!
  15. Soak it in broth.
  16. i love my Charge 2 Fitbit. Bestie got it for me for my birthday last year and I've worn it daily. HUGE help for activity accountability.
  17. I really liked our "healthy recipes" fourth of July. Everyone said the food was awesome and the fun the kids had didn't seem to be decreased in the slightest by an absence of endless cookies, cupcakes, pop and chips. I learned to make an amazing low call salad dressing from a guest. Loved my sis in law's black bean brownies. Rather than buying the kids so many treats, I bought more bubbles and water balloons and fun things to play with. More pool toys, less frosting. More nets and bug jars, got the canoes and fishing gear out.... the video games downstairs were never turned on. I made punch with diet 20 calorie juice with frozen raspberries floating in it. Had iced bottled water and sugar free lemonade....no one complained about the lack of soda. We had a scavenger hunt and the prize was launching a lantern. I think there's room for creativity with our celebrations that can provide needed balance.
  18. This is an education I never expected to get with this thread. LOL. Interesting, though. How weird!
  19. BBB...bubble bath and book. This helps. It's like a food hug...but no calories. Calling my best friend helps. She makes me laugh...and laughing is good. We laugh to survive:) Walks with hubby, or daughter, or my puppy help.....plus, hey, I got another walk in...bonus! Any OTHER comfort habit...helps. Curl up on the couch with your favorite down throw and pillow and watch something that makes you smile. Extort a foot rub, or backrub outta the hubby. Do some kinda flow activity that makes the noise of the day turn off for a while. I like to paint and write and build things. I like hangin out in my garden. Sometimes floating around in the pool helps. Also....pick some *legal* comfort foods for emergency use. Something that feels like a comfort food that isn't that bad for you. That way...if you cave....there's damage control. I use watermelon and frozen greek yogurt bars.
  20. I need to whack my husband with a 2x4 to get him to leave me alone. He's all about the thinner me. But yeah, I know these issues do come up for people. Something you might not be considering...is that it might not be physical. As we lose weight and hit our goals, it can make us feel more confident, more outspoke, more assertive and in control of our lives...more interested in pursuing ideas and dreams our partners weren't completely aware of. You're changing, and not just physically. That might scare the hell out of him. Go to therapy. There's a reason they call it divorce surgery.
  21. Ape lifespan..... 35-50 years. Often die of cancers related to old age. Lion lifespan.... 10-14 years. Often die of end stage kidney disease. Carnivorous mammals don't live very long. Atkins post mortem exam showed he'd had heart attacks and coronary artery disease. he was also either obese, or retaining 20+ pounds of water when he died...(the later would indicate kidney failure.)
  22. True. But we should also pay attention to history. If we've tried something in the past, and had great success that wasn't sustainable....maybe we need to rethink it? I'm not a stranger to keto, btw....I lost 50 pounds on it once upon a time in three months... and regained it just as fast. Keto made me feel wretched...I had actual dreams about food while on it, which was very weird...and my cravings for junk were incredibly intense and unpleasant. When I fell off the wagon, I kinda lost my mind...went nuts and made up for lost time. It wasn't pretty. You are dead right....to each their own. And I know some folks do have luck with high protein carb restrictive diets. But for me? Carb restrictive diets were a recipe for me to fall off a cliff. Also, my BUN went up (my kidney function suffered because they had to work so much harder dealing with all that protein) Not saying I haven't fallen off the wagon with my current diet....but when I do...the sensation is way different. I go a little off course, feel stupid, and don't have any problems getting right back in the saddle. I stall for a day or two, but don't really gain. Falling off Keto, I'd gain five pounds instantaneously and went completely out of control...it just snowballed. I will never do that to myself again. Great apes eat fruit, fiber and lots of plant based protein. I'm a great ape, not a lion.
  23. I eat a ton of carbs and my diet is extremely fat restricted. I eat less than 20g of fat per day. I've lost weight pretty steadily eating at least 3 generous servings of fruit a day and lots of whole grains and veggies including brown rice and potatoes. I'm going to have to increase calories to prolly 1600 to stop my weight loss here pretty quick:) Fat restriction works very well for me.
  24. In truth, less than half of bariatric surgery patients regain weight...and those who do...typically only regain a small portion of what they lose. From the American Society of Bariatric and Metobolic Surgeons: As many as 50 percent of patients may regain a small amount of weight (approximately 5 percent) two years or more following their surgery. However, longitudinal studies find that most bariatric surgery patients maintain successful weight-loss long-term. ‘Successful’ weight-loss is arbitrarily defined as weight-loss equal to or greater than 50 percent of excess body weight. Often, successful results are determined by the patient, by their perceived improvement in quality of life. In such cases, the total retained weight-loss may be more, or less, than this arbitrary definition. Such massive and sustained weight reduction with surgery is in sharp contrast to the experience most patients have previously had with non-surgical therapies. https://asmbs.org/patients/bariatric-surgery-misconceptions
  25. With blood clots, heart attacks and strokes....always be safe rather than sorry. It's good you went. Glad you're ok.
