Hop_Scotch reacted to copley95 in Huge stall, binge eating
I am struggling with over eating after 10 months post op. Lost 90 pounds quick from May to October then stopped. Trick or treat, thanksgiving, Christmas, now Easter causing me to fall off the program and has carried into my daily eating. Anyone else struggling with binge eating?

Thanks for being honest and I agree with summerseeker, you should contact your care team for help! I am still in the preop stage and that is my fear” loose weight quickly and then fall back into my old patterns”. Good luck in your journey ❤️❤️

Try and get some help before this gets out of control and you feel that you have failed. Contact your team and a therapist quickly, You are not the first and person to struggle. I still have a fear of loosing my restriction and doing the same. chocolate is my nemesis

What is your liquid medicine for? What is it?
In the very early stages of post op there may be too much stomach acid that can make you feel like you are hungry...are you on medication to reduce stomach acid? If not, chat to your doctor.
It could also be thirst/dehydration this also masks as hunger. How are you going with Fluid intake?
If its not too much stomach acid or dehydation, check your liquid medication with your doctor.

38 isn't old at all, definitely not too old for surgery. I am almost 58 and am contemplating it.

Hi Mark, welcome. I noticed that you’re willing to treat other side effects of your weight with medications & tools - CPAP machine, meds for the high blood pressure, and knee surgery for the worn out knees…
But you hesitate with GERD and Constipation, both of which can be corrected with medications alone (over the counter options as well as prescription). Having the surgery could even correct your high blood pressure and sleep apnea, which would remove those issues from the list. Not to mention, weight loss in the long term is desirable for knee replacement.
This leads me to ask, what are you actually scared of?
Weight loss surgery is an extremely effective procedure for long term results, and the RNY gastric bypass is highly effective in treating or preventing GERD. I’m so glad you’re here, because there is a lot to learn and reconcile with when it comes to weight in our society. At the end of the day, getting to a healthy weight and keeping it off is what everyone here is working toward. You will never be alone in this if you choose to move ahead. Best of luck to you!

No I didn't receive any calorie goals or restrictins for post op phases. While some may have, from what I have seen on here, its most Protein and fluids goals and for some people there may have been carbs targets or limits.

I'd leave the cabbage until you are a little further down the track. It is probably a little harder to digest and quite fibrous (so not possibly not a soft food). (Edited to add) The cabbage would possibly make you bloated and gassy this early on.
I couldn't tolerate bread for a long time, it's quite stodgy, I don't think you'd want to be eating it just yet.

Thank you for responding. I totally forgot about the cabbage and the fibrinous benefits. I’ll definitely wait on the on bread. I appreciate your reply and help on this.

So what does he do himself so as not to take advantage of technology, inventions or health advancements - what does he do the hard way? Not just in health but in everyday life and work.
I assume you've already attempted what he considered to be the hard way? Does he think you haven't put the effort in?
Maybe take him along to your next medical appointment with the surgeon so that the surgeon can explain the superiority of surgery over what he considers to be the hard way.

Did the doctor who did the ESG give you the go ahead for heavy weights? ESG anchors and sutures until they heal (and possibly scar) are a bit precarious.
I know all doctors/surgeons have their own protocol, mine was don't lift anything heavier than a stand chair for a month so as to allow the stomach to heal from the anchors and sutures.
If you haven't got the go ahead for heavy weights from the doctor who did the ESG, please check in with them before doing any more sessions. I've seen a lot of failed ESGs (mine being one) and they fail for many different reasons.

Sorry to hear you are experiencing issues. So as to enable responses tailored to your question you may want to give some more information, such as why you can't really eat anything...are you experiencing vomiting, acid relux or dumping most or all the time you eat? Not able to actually eat more than a few small spoonfuls at a time? Just can't tolerate eating...texture, taste or smell is turning you off? What foods have you been eating? What guidance have you had from your surgeon or dietician with the issue?

Hop_Scotch got a reaction from Smanky in Chewing Beef Jerky without swallowing the solids
I think the issue here is the chewing will activate your digestive system, which will produce stomach acid to digest the food, except there won't be any food and the acid may cause acid reflux or possibly be too harsh on an empty stomach.

Sorry to be bearer of bad news, but yes, I think things will get worse, a whole lot worse. Please seek counselling for your low self esteem, you deserve much better than this and you should not be tolerating it.. Talk to someone (a lawyer perhaps) about a possible break up and what you need to do.
Please get counselling for your children, they need to know that his behaviour is not okay and it doesn't need to be tolerated in the home, at work or with friends.

Get back to basics - hit your Protein, get your Water in, take your Vitamins, and move your body. Weight and track everything - it will help you stay accountable to yourself. And, get help! Find a counselor, someone who deals with eating/food issues if possible, talk to your medical team, etc. Can't stress enough how much the mental/emotional piece of WLS is really the biggest. But the help is out there and you CAN be successful! You've got this!

I could be you, you’re not alone. I got help through my clinic and Psychologytoday.com because loosing weight and lifestyle changes is a major head game. If we could do it all by ourselves we would have. Therapy has helped me tremendously. You are worth it!

you're only six months out, so still in the "honeymoon" stage. Try to get back on track ASAP because it's never in your life going to be easier to lose weight than it is right now. I'd call your clinic for help - that's what they're there for! They may have you work with the dietitian or the psychologist (if they have one on staff - our clinic did...)
