Bariatric advantage Liquid Protein in berry flavor. Luckily, my doc wants his patients off Protein Drinks ASAP, so I hope to skip them in a few weeks.

Sorry to hear that. He is probably having some issues coping with the stress of the changes.

Did you talk to him about how he can support you during recovery? I am having my surgery 11/17, and I have been spelling out what I will need. For example, I normally cook the meals. After I am on the Bariatric regular diet, I can do that because I will add a carb for him. He is happy to eat what I eat with a carb. However, we are working out a plan for him to take care of his meals for himself preop liquid diet beginning on 11/3 and through week seven. On the occasion he wants fast good or pizza, he can eat it before he gets home, and I don’t want to smell microwave popcorn, so he has agreed to do bagged popcorn for movies. I know this may not help, but it is what I am trying.

Also, remind him of all the things that will be better for him if you are successful. He may be afraid that if you lose weight things will change for the worse for him.

I agree that we will have to get used to being around foods we need to avoid, but we need to at least get through the initial stages of recovery first.

This was an extremely helpful post for a newbie like me, nine days post-op. Thank you!

Sorry you had to go so long without liquids. I had surgery on 11/17 and was drinking the little medicine cups of Water shortly thereafter. I only had a short bought of gas pain. I have a lot of pain at the large incision site, but I have been lucky otherwise. Glad you are doing better.

Thank you. I am excited to get past the 14 day liquid diet. I am on day 6, but it is really day 7 because I was in LA for business and did Soup on day 1. [emoji3][emoji106]

I am glad you are both feeling better. The bleed must have been scary. It’s my turn in one week, but I have had good luck with surgeries, so I am calm.

My pharmacy had to order it, but it only took a day, and my insurance paid. It cost me $10.

Skipping meals is something I REALLY struggle with when I get busy. I have to start the day off right with Breakfast. That helps. If I wait to long to eat my hunger signals don’t ever really get rolling. Staying up with meals requires preparation by having Snacks on hand and making a point of trying to eat at least 5-6 small meals a day. It can be really tough. If it’s a problem for you before surgery it may be a real challenge later. But you can do it!

Listen to your body, you might fancy trying a sandwich but your stomach might think otherwise and will let you know. I’m like everyone else in that I eat Protein, veg then a few carbs, but I do have a glass of wine now and again or a low calorie g&t. Only a small one and it takes a couple of hours to drink it 😂. I struggle to eat more than 800 calories a day so I make sure it’s the things I really like but also doesn’t have many carbs. I don’t care if I never eat another sandwich if it means I can feel like I do now, I feel normal, I feel healthy and I feel proud and I pray each day that I will keep loosing. 😊

The one thing that's always fascinating to me is how MUCH other people can eat and how little we actually NEED to live on. I mean, I used to eat those massive portions, too! Now it almost makes me sick to watch.
I maintain on 1200 calories at almost 4 years post op. I eat mostly meat, fish, nuts, fruits and veggies. Yup, that's 80% of my diet. I choose to eat that way because one:
I feel great when I limit sugar and simple carbs
And two: I maintain my weight fairly easily sticking to that stuff without having to track, weigh and measure everything because I HATE to!
Oh, the other 20% of what I eat? Yogurt, cheese, whole grains and chocolate. Oh, and coffee. Lots and lots of coffee.
I eat like someone who is mostly health conscious who hasn't had surgery. Except I can only eat around 10 oz of food in a single meal, maybe less.

I agree it is tough. I am on day 10. My surgery is 11/17. I haven’t cheated, but I don’t trust myself driving and am not thinking clearly some of the time. I am working remotely the rest of the week to minimize risk. It gets better when I rest, but my job is quite demanding, so my brain gets tired quickly.

I am not cooking again until I am on the regular bariatric diet. My hubby is eating out or doing Stouffer’s. He is fit. It won’t hurt him for a few weeks.

I am also getting a massage and a mani pedi before surgery. I deserve a treat.

Keep trying. You can do it. Treat yourself to something you enjoy besides food.

One thing that has amazed me is how many substitute products there are now that fit in with our needs and still satisfy the old urges. For example, I've gotten a high-protein oatmeal (it's about 10 grams a serving and still high in carbs, so I don't have it more than about once a week). Even better, I've found a high-protein Pasta that's made with yellow lentils--and today I saw a number of other types in the grocery store. I had some in a Soup and it was fine--I didn't feel deprived at all.
I'm living with someone else for a few months and I'm surrounded by stuff I shouldn't eat--and I'm embarrassed to admit that I have eaten way too much of these things. I can't wait until I'm living alone again and simply don't have these things around. Yes, I should be able to resist temptation and just make the right choices . . . but I admit I'm human and weak at times. Thank goodness my sleeve restricts the amount I can eat--I was taken to a Chinese buffet today and ate about a quarter of the plate of food I had. Still not the greatest choice, given the sauces on the chicken, but at least not much.
dinner was watermelon and cottage cheese--a much better meal, actually.

I was sleeved Thursday, 11/16. I came home Friday and I feel pretty good. I'm walking around the neighborhood a few times a day. My only problem is that when I drink anything it really burns my stomach. I hope this feeling goes away soon. I'm still on clear liquid until Tomorrow
