    Hey readytorunagain -

I've followed the plan my team set for me, get my Protein in every day, walk 30 minutes every day, try to get over 10K steps each day. I started the Couch25K program after one month and I'm almost through it. I keep working my program and it's not always easy but every day is a new day to do it right!

    Pre-op:306
    Sw: 288 (roughly)
    Cw: 228.4!!!!!

I can't believe I'm typing this! I'm so close and it doesn't feel out of reach. Sure, it might take me a few more months to get there but I don't mind. I'm thrilled with my progress. At 14 weeks out I've lost 78 pounds. Keep it up to those just starting the journey. Its not always easy but it is worth it!

11/13/17..Phase change from all liquid to puree. Yuck. Gross. How the hell am I gonna get through this? Puree is just...yuck.
Luckily, I can have scrambled egg beaters, yogurt and smoothies. So gonna start making smoothies with my Ninja bullet and get through this stage.
The good news is I am down another 5.5 pounds and weigh 229.9. Yeah I know- 230..but 229 sounds better. :-)

Hi. I was against wls for years also until one day while laying in the hospital with kidney stones I had a change of heart. I just felt gross and embarrassed and felt like a whale. I previously researched wls and was very nervous about complications and life long decisions. I was never excited even up until dec 6 2016 the day of my gastric sleeve. I laid in pre op for 8 hours because my surgeon had an emergency. During that time i tried to leave twice out of anger and anxiety but with help of my parents i stayed. To be honest after surgery I had ups and downs. Nausea and pain and no appetite and was sick of damn Protein shakes! Month after month I got better and better and slowly introduced food items back into my diet. I am currently 11 months post op. I went from 388 lbs the day of surgery to 258 today. I completely understand how you feel and everyone has different experience. Good luck and stay strong!

AT ABOUT 3 MONTHS I STARTED LOSING LOTS AND LOTS OF hair. WHAT WAS WORSE WAS THAT IT WAS IN THE FRONT WHERE EVERYONE CAN SEE. I WAS SO FREAKED OUT ABOUT MY Hair loss I WENT TO MY DOCTOR TO SEE WHAT I CAN DO. FIRST THING HE ASKED IS IF I TAKE ALL MY VITAMINS....WELL THAT WAS A NEGATIVE. I WASN'T TAKING THEM ON A REGULAR BASIS BECAUSE THEY'D MAKE ME FEEL SICK. I STARTED TAKING THEM RELIGIOUSLY AND ADDED Biotin. MY HAIR HAS BEEN GROWING OUT NOW, AND I DON'T LOSE AS MUCH HAIR.
***SO THE KEY IS TO MAKE SURE YOU TAKE ALL YOUR Vitamins EVERY SINGLE DAY***

Good morning everybody, it is update time!
I was sleeved 10/10 and while this is a statement in an of itself clearly a lot gets lost in it.
First of all, in all the time that I was on this forum, reading and researching, I seem to have disassociated myself from reality. You know, the fact that you actually have to get a surgery done to get over to the loser’s side. It’s not like reading a book and identifying with the heroine.
So it felt a little surreal when I woke up (which also is a lie, I barely slept!) on tuesday morning at around 4 and took a shower before I headed for the hospital. My husband stayed behind to take care of the kids so it was a lonely drive out there in darkness and while I at least had my music with me it all felt very ominous!
So I checked in at the hospital, and went to the pre-op suite. The nurses were all very nice and helpful, my surgeon checked in with me for last minute questions and concerns and the last thing I remember is the nice anesthesiologist saying he would just give me one or two injections to prep me for general anesthesiology. This was all done in the pre-op area so I never got to see the operating room.
I woke up some time later in my room, my husband by my side and in agony. As much as I read about this ahead of time it seems like my expectations were definitely favoring the painless experience some people seem to go through but nooooo!
I was in pain that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. I don’t really remember the details of that day, I was in and out of it but I remember general bouts of overall crappiness, horrible gas pain that seems to have been stuck in one part of my chest, my husband rubbing and trying to get me to burp on and off. I’m not sure how I would have done had he not been there for me. I think he may have tired more, physically speaking, trying to hold me upright, getting me to walk and just being up and about taking care of me than I. So while I was fully expectig to be outpatient and going home that day that clearly didn’t happen. My poor roommate had to ask for a change in room because I wasn’t letting her get any rest.
I’m not normally a cry baby but man!
Anyway, there were other bariatric patients on my floor, none of whom seemed to be in the same boat as me; or they just had better tolerance levels, I don’t know. Either way, there I was, bawling my eyes out when I walked but walked I did. And everytime I walked it was worse than before because the gas would shift and break up and move around and I would feel like crap again.
One thing I’ll say though; I was grateful for having brought my own slippers. They came in very handy.
The second day was what I had expected my first day to be like; overall crappiness but at least I was able to let go of my husband and he was able to go home and get some rest. Walking was key, really. Walk walk walk.... i sipped some water... didn’t reall touch any of the “food” they brought in but was in and out a lot again. Dilaudid didn’t do anything for me but tylenol, the chewable they gave me for heartburn and the benadryl as a sleep aid got me through it.
While I could have gone home on the first day I opted to stay the second night as well and the doctors agreed with me for which I am grateful.
I was discharged with a much sunnier, albeit still not 100% disposition the next day.
So now we’re up to 10/12. The ride home was fine, as long as I walked and got some more gas out the pain was manageable. I took a couple of tylenol as well as back to my regular Vitamin + prilosec otc regimen.
I set myself a timer for 15 mins on repeat and literally got up everytime, walked to the kitchen and sipped some Water.
There was a lot of “popping” in my esophagus last night which prevented me from sleeping but I think I have the measure of it today.
So, all in all, 3 days out and today is a good day!

Pretty good thanks! I had to get my BMI up to 35 so I had a shot at qualifying. My sleep test came back with mild sleep apnea so that is "good" too because I needed a co-morbidity. I have a 90 day waiting period and that'll be up mid-December. So, i'm looking at late Dec/early Jan hopefully!

Yay! I just had my 1 month check up and I am through with flying colors! I can eat anything (slowly) and I can exercise anything (taking it slowly) going forward. So onward we go.
I’m down to 3 square meals, 1 afternoon snack and 2 Protein Shakes in between meals. Looks like this’ll be it for the foreseeable future. And onward we go.

Really, the only thing I get to complain about now is that I am so fricking cold all the time. My husband keeps teasing me “welcome to the normal side”. But even that has a silver lining; I finally get to wear some lovely sweaters!

    Carry on everyone!

I heard a really good saying taking my pre surgery nutrition class. "Even if you slip up once in the day, you have 5 more eating chances to make the right decision in the same day." Don't give up on yourself for one slip. Keep going and eat right the rest of the day, it will make you feel better. Thank you for sharing your experience and good luck.

I would consider a lot of what you have listed here as junk food or processed foods. There is a lot of bread and sugar.
These types of food are not healthy by my definition of healthy foods and they would not help me with any of my goals.
if you can eat that much bread and be fine well that is just great. I am happy that you are happy and have found a lifestyle that works for you.

    Hey!
So I've left dieting behind. I no longer weigh myself. I don't count my calories or macros or Protein grams. I have no idea what I eat in a day, it's always different and I actually forget.
I exercise for fun and enjoyment but not for weight regulation. If I don't feel like working out, I don't.
Bariatric surgery helped me lose 100 lbs but it also caused a great deal of pain in my life. I struggle to this day with food getting stuck, vomiting, and dumping.
I have rejected dieting because after my weight loss I realized I was just as miserable and unhappy as prior to my weight loss. Living a life centered around food, dieting, weight and body imagine was taking all the joy out of my world. I didn't feel at ease- I felt the same amount of stress and anxiety around food as before weight loss- maybe more So now that I was thin and felt I had more to lose if I regained. Basically I was still stuck in an eating disorder and diet mindset and it was ruining my life.
I now eat by INTUITIVE EATING. It is a book I read and a way of eating that was presented to me when I went through eating disorder therapy. I eat by my hunger.. if I'm hungry I eat and if I'm not, I don't. Well.. sometimes I still do. Basically these days I just don't think about it that much. I just eat.
I can eat normal to large portion sizes now. I eat a wide variety of foods including sweets and fried food. I don't love processed Snacks but sometimes I still eat those too. I'd say I eat a fairly healthy diet nutrition wise- I eat my fair share of veggies and fruit but I definitely don't ponder about it- I just eat what appeals to me. I like salads as much as I like cake and protein.
I initially gained about 10lbs, but I was underweight at a BMI of 17. My weight has remained stable for about a year now, as far as I know.
If anyone wants to know more feel free to get in touch. I'm happy to talk about my experiences.

I'm feeling really proud tonight. The first picture was taken a few days before my surgery on 7/7/17. The pic in the black dress is from today. This was an old dress I'd given up hope on ever wearing again. I'm not quite where I want to be in it yet (or maybe it just feels weird being so 'exposed' in a dress), but I felt really proud of this NSV and wanted to share it gets easier, with each passing day. Hang in there everyone!

kittymommy reacted to sylvia2017 in Is it normal for your weight loss to slow down in your third week post op after sleeve surgery?
I stalled at week 5. Didn't lose a lb for 2 weeks then I've averaged 5 lbs a week since. I'm down 100lbs in 4 months. Don't get discouraged. Just stick to the rules and it'll fall off.

    Good morning.
The sleeved side so far has went very well, although I can't wait to stop Protein Shakes.
My only issues are slight pain from incisions, a little dizzy, and forgetting to sip slowly. I have tons of belching/farting, loud intestinal noises, some disgusting foamies, and barium swallow diarrhea. I am not hungry, and must work hard to get Protein and fluid goals - not there yet. Looking forward to full liquids next week and so on.
The surgery doesn't seem real at times, not complaining about that lol.
