Cater77 reacted to LillieDuFran in Surgery Tomorrow AM early (10/5) PRE OP JOURNEY
PRE OP: I did two weeks on Optifast800, which was very "doable". I had 3 shakes, a Soup, and a bar until the last two days, where the bar was discontinued. I found that drinking Water (which apparently will be my new go-to) relieved any headache issue with the sudden drop in carbs & sugar in my day. I have lost, as of this morning, 15 or so pounds, plus 8 inches collectively from bust, waist & hips. I am hoping my liver is in good shape! (I know I have fatty liver per biopsy).
I did not get a lot of walking in, which I had intended to do. Although the weather got cool & clear, my stomach reacted to the diet with great variability, meaning stay close to the bathroom!
I have not been, nor am I this morning with less than 24 hours to go, been anxious. Dr. Heider and his staff did an amazing job on the pre-op workshop. Literally, they covered everything. I've had lots of surgeries in my life (even open heart), but I feel the most prepared for this one.
You all sharing your stories has been incredibly helpful in answering more personal questions, and just generous support. I also found great recipes for every stage on Pinterest. Organizing recipes for "after" was very stress relieving for me. I also found that there is a "predictable" way to alter most recipes at every stage in order to eat the things we love or at least a satisfying replica that is now healthy.
My journey is different than many of you; I'm older (65) and have had lots of health challenges. But what a joy to share it with you and know that each of you is moving towards optimal health, and a fuller experience of life! I so wish I had been as wise as you earlier in life.
Thanks!
Annie

Cater77 reacted to kiya2te in 6 days left!!
Including today I have 5 more days of liquid and Protein Shakes. Then full liquids then the big day!! I'm still so excited. We are also trying to move into a new home this month and my daughters getting her license the week of my surgery. So many changes. I'm happy I have many distractions so I can be on this liquid diet and not cheat.

Cater77 reacted to FlyFatA$$Fly in Anyone from the Chicagoland area
I'm just getting ready to head back to work. I've been off 2 months, but I'm a pilot. The FAA has an 8 week waiting period before I could fly again. Recovery was faster than I thought. I was feeling really good one week post op.
Eating, stick to the diet plan and phases. I'm back on normal food now. I eat very small meals. The most I can do solid food is 3oz or so. I usually eat 4-5 small meals/snacks a day, and about 800 calories a day. When eating listen to your body, and if you are full stop. You will learn the signs.
