laurileet got a reaction from Orchids&Dragons in Slow losers
same! 1 month post op today and I haven't lost any weight in the last week, (but i'm down 13 lbs overall since surgery). this CAN happen as our bodies figure out the new normal. Not to worry it will go down again. I know it's hard though. it's so exciting when you see the weight number go down! I try not to weigh in every day but it's too hard not to.

laurileet got a reaction from Frustr8 in Protein shakes
At first, Atkins. but there's not enough Protein so I've switched to Premier Protein. one trick I've used, if you don't like the taste or consistency of a certain shake, add a squirt of one you DO like. I find that helps.

laurileet got a reaction from SydneySleever in Having trouble believing my stomach is gone
I had very very little pain post op. Someone asked me if I felt like there was a 'void' where they took out the stomach. that made me laugh actually. kind of makes sense that I would, but nope. anyways. I KNOW it's a smaller 'eating' stomach because a few bites of something and i'm full. instead of a normal sized dinner plate, I have a teacup saucer that I eat off of. and cant always finish what I put on it.

laurileet got a reaction from Frustr8 in How are you treated by your mate!!!
My husband was supportive before surgery. But what I didn't realize is how nervous he was about it all. Turns out, he was thinking of his Mother then entire time. Years ago she had gone in for a breast reduction, and had a stroke on the table. Her health went steadily downward from there until she pass several years later. He had that on the brain, but didn't share it with me beforehand. I found out from other family members AFTER my sleeve was done. Try to get your other 1/2 to share what they're feeling. You may be completely surprised why they are acting they way they are.

laurileet got a reaction from Deb100 in How would you have reacted?
wow, that is a surprising thing for a nurse to say - I think I would have said something to the effect that my DOCTORS know better what is right for me. and left it at that.

laurileet got a reaction from Matt Z in ursodiol?
I found out yesterday that there's a script of ursodiol waiting for me at the pharmacy. No mention of it from my surgeon who i just saw yesterday morning. I looked it up and it's for preventing gall stones. Anyone else have to take this or something similar? I have a call in to him to find out the details.. no idea when i'm supposed to start taking it, how long etc. weird.

Absolutely none! I’m a week out and feeling great!!! (Minus being allergic to the dermabond and breaking out in an itchy rash over my belly [emoji24])

laurileet reacted to Kay07 in Surgery Tomorrow, Feeling Anxious About Weird Things
I am still feeling pretty good! Getting all my walking and Water sipping on. I am glad I read so many threads about easier recoveries, because I think I’m one of them. Gas pain is almost gone, and the most irritating this is the pain in the largest incision site.
Yesterday I got in around 35oz of fluids, and probably 20g of Protein. My goal for today is 45 oz Fluid and 30g of Protein. Considering the minor insomnia I’m having I think this should be possible [emoji4]

laurileet got a reaction from Kay07 in Surgery Tomorrow, Feeling Anxious About Weird Things
I've been prepping my house like crazy! serious deep cleaning because I envision myself resting after surgery and seeing a dirty corner and wanting to jump up and clean it. And if done a bunch of cook n freeze for my husband and son (20 yrs old) because .. you know.. they have no idea where the kitchen is. duh. they'll be FINE. But we moms have to take care of everyone else. I have chicken broth, turkey broth, various shakes, all waiting for me in the pantry. The only thing I wonder is what to bring to the hospital with me. I have a small list: a book to read, because day time tv stinks, toothbrush and paste, comfy clothes to go home in, my cell phone so I can text my office that I survived, insurance card and ID. what else????

Phone charger, Biotene (you'll have dry mouth afterwards) and slippers to walk around after surgery!

I am scheduled for 5/23. I’m also keeping busy. Cleaning the house. Making food. Double checking supplies. Hitting the gym a few more times. Anything to keep busy and keep my mind off of it.

Hang in there EWMS I know i feels dark and gloomy now but it will get better. Everyone take a different amount of time to recovery from what is a very big surgery. You are asking yourself WTF but guess what your body is saying the same thing to you. Just what the hell did you do to me?
Your body will settle in to the new normal and slowly but surely you will recover and feel better.
In a few months you will look back and while it will have been a tough slog you will be so glad you started to get some control back over your health and watching the weight go down will make everything worth it.
In the mean time.
1. Water Is Life - work on the water above all else. Nothing will hurt you more than dehydration right now.
2. Protein - however you can get it down. Do you drink coffee? Premier Protein (liquid) makes a great flavored coffee.
calories and food in general are not very important right now. Face it, we all have way more fat stored than we need or we would not be here.
let yourself heal and stay strong.

laurileet reacted to ProudGrammy in What side do you sleep on?
first day home, i was uncomfortable sitting, yet alone laying down.
i tried the first night to position myself on my side to sleep. No way jose' !
by the 3rd night i did sleep on my normal right side. wasn't terrific - but
i did it. Things improved daily. One week PO i was sleeping like a baby.
A "BIG" baby
good luck

I could sleep on back straight away, right side after a day and left side/tummy after a week or so.

laurileet reacted to Myaiku_Kuraitani in What side do you sleep on?
Not a few days out without a lot of discomfort. A few weeks out, it got so much easier. I could sleep on my stomach and on either side. I'm a year out now and sleeping just feels like.... Normal.

Just had surgery on Friday. Already sleeping on my stomach and both sides. Slight discomfort, nothing that keeps me from sleeping peacefully though.

laurileet got a reaction from allwet in 2 week countdown, and pre op diet
JUST got back from several appointments, one of which telling me about my pre-op diet. Not too bad really. Kind of close to the way I've been eating already. shakes, some fruit, Protein. don't have to d a 'liquid only' diet until 2 days before. lots of material to read just so i'm up on the events as they will unfold. woohoo! tick tock tick tock!
