  1. It sounds like you got the water planned out and that is the most important. You should be fine energy wise. Thats far enough post op for you to be very active and enjoy it. The Premeir Protein shakes would give you 30g so 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening plus your meal plan should get you to your protein goal. Taste test the flavors before you go they are not all palatable. good luck with your surgery and make the most of this new start you are about to receive.
  2. Amy, is it possible you are the ONE person, sure but possible and probable are not the same thing. How old is your last complete blood panel. If the answer is more than 90 days get it again. You need to rule out a medical issue. Zero sugar Then - cut the carbs to under 50g with all of those coming from veggies Protein - and Fat should fill out the rest of your calories. The goal is to get to fat burning and that process has a defined route. You must burn the stored glycogen in your muscles followed by the sugar in your blood followed by the sugar in your liver (the cause of a fatty liver) When all of this has been worked down then the body will process stored fat for energy. Stored fat is the very last energy source our bodies tap cause it is the energy of last resort and we are programmed to survive. If at any time you spike your blood sugar with sugar, carbs, protein your insulin will rise and you will enter Fat storage mode and can not return to fat burning mode till insulin levels return to normal. You mentioned hormones and you are correct all weight loss and gain is hormone driven. The longer you were overweight the more issues with metabolic syndrome you will have. If you have other medical issues as you have stated you will have that to mess with your hormones as well. Dont eat if your not hungry, dont eat late at night it delays the start of fat burning when you Fast and everybody Fast's when they go to sleep unless you sleep walk to the fridge i guess. Dont start your day with any carbs at all. Protein and fat only If your not a breakfast person wait for first meal till you feel like it. If you have a workout in your routine and you can, do it in the morning before you eat. lifting weights followed by 20 minutes cardio minimum. Do with this what you want but you have to get as much control over the hormones with your diet as you can. It is critical that you use a food app to track all your Macro's Remember there are Essential Amino acids(protein) and Essential Fatty Acids(fats) but there no essential carbs You cant control what you dont understand and that starts with tracking your food. I wish you luck and hope you find a way to go forward with your weight loss.
  3. depends on your goal - everything on that list will raise blood sugar and then raise insulin levels so they should be consumed in moderation with that in mind. only you can decide what limit you want on carbs. 150 g 100g 50g (me) 20g keep in mind the govt asked Americans to eat more carbs and obesity and type 2 diabetes have risen every year since to reach epidemic proportions today - thank you U.S. govt. track all your food with an app and decided what number to stay under then adjust your food choices as needed.
  4. fries are a carb. cookies are carbs and worse sugar. pizza dough is a carb - the meats are protein and fat and the veggies have carbs - scrap everything off the dough throw in a scrambled egg you got a great breakfast pasta is highly refined and a carb - who grain while a better version is still a carb even if less refined. potatoes are a starch and thats a carb. oatmeal is a carb beans are carbs with higher amount of fiber which makes them a better choice than all of the others on your list.
  5. Good Luck and Best Wishes
  6. i was positive and had surgery as soon as i was cleared. its no problem.
  7. I wish i could tell you but there is such a huge range of recovery times. Some people are up same day as surgery and dont look back. others are laid up for days and take several weeks to get back into more normal routine. You have your youth on your side and i would hope you will be in the up and going gang busters group. All you have to know about "How it all works" is you need to eat very small meals and consume alot of protein while drinking water all the time. Dehydration is your enemy. as to the alcohol - just remember that it will hit you much much harder than before. I recently read a study that showed a huge increase in blood alcohol level from the same amount of alcohol given to sleeved vs. non sleeved test subjects. So exercise caution and make sure your safe. good luck and enjoy your time abroad
  8. if the motion will move the wound around i would avoid it just a little longer. there are WLS doctors that dont even recommend the gym till you get back to solid foods. Getting healed is the main goal here. Did your doctor say ok after 3 weeks to you even with the incision or was that his policy in general. put in a call to the office if you are unsure. thats what they are there for.
  9. so sorry to hear that. My wife was also turned down due to seizure meds so i do know somewhat how you feel right now.
  10. talk to your surgeon. if your to early for to have one then make it the first topic when you get there.
  11. never fear the potty talk here, we have all been there and not been able to do that. great suggestions above.
  12. you are so soon after surgery. Please read the part i quoted above. a pound a day is simply not sustainable. 1 plus a week would be a much more sustainable goal and would not cause you so much mental anguish. try to weigh only weekly, the daily thing works against you after that early weight drop. You need to avoid the negative feedback from fixating on the scale everyday. Look for NSV (non scale victories) and enjoy those. Hows the mobility, the gym, how about how your clothes fit. Did you get to drop any meds or reduce them. Try to step back for a bigger picture and let the weight loss come to you in the many many months ahead. good luck and grats on your surgery
  13. great job and can easily see the difference. It is so much harder to see it in ourselves.
  14. About half of all the people that start the process give up and the insurance companies are in the money business not the save your life business. So a few roadblocks here and there a couple of paperwork issues and there expenses go down as people give up. grats on getting your date and good luck
  15. weighted blanket or get tucked in real tight
  16. i would hope that anyone giving themselves insulin shots would be better at monitoring there blood sugar levels than that. From a purely fat loss point any snacking is going to reduce the number of hours you will burn fat instead of whatever food you just ate. If your medical conditions prevent that then you will just have to accept those limitations and work from there on your goals. It simply does not change the fact that if you add hours that your body has ready available food in your system you will decrease the time spent burning stored fat. The body uses the sugar in your blood first Then the stored sugar in your Liver. Then finally it starts breaking down stored fat to replenish those levels. If you pop food in your mouth every 2 hours you never get past step 1. Failure to understand the how and why of this process will just set you up for weight regain when the volume control introduced by your sleeve is slowly reduced over the first couple years. Anyone with medical conditions that prevent them from doing this will have to work to those limitations. If this upsets you so greatly i would suggest you add me to your ignore user list.
  17. its not medical advice its fat loss advice and you should always follow your doctors instructions but he didnt ask his doctor he asked here.
  18. diabetics have higher insulin response to any eating and a slower return to normal blood sugar. a snack is just another meal that your body responds to with another insulin spike. Insulin is the hormone that causes fat storage. If you have an insulin spike, as you do during any calorie intake your body goes to fat storage mode and cant burn any stored fat till insulin levels return to normal and for diabetics that can be several hours. So snacks just add more hours to everyday that you will not and can not burn body fat.
  19. did you have high blood sugar - diabetes or pre diabetes before WLS if you did you should avoid snacks during the first year or so and very little after that. If you had no blood sugar issues than just keep it healthy.
  20. Head hunger and the food addiction that is the root cause will do some strange things to you. Please take this post op time to try to break thru all that. Distract Distract Distract You have to move the mental focus away from food. While it my be true That "Its all in your head" or not it does not make it easier. Post op is mostly a mental game and you are being put to the test right out the gate. The skills you learn to deal with this head hunger will help determine how easy or hard the rest of this goes. Also mild dehydration will mask as hunger so try to increase your water intake. medical issues like the IBS do not make any of this easier and just add a layer of difficulty to an already tough time period. good luck
  21. I am not trying to make fun of you but that line made me laugh my ass off. i am just picturing the nurse removing the leg since it was the only one working anyway.
  22. FREEZE THIS THE BARIATIC POLICE. NOW STEP AWAY FROM THE SCALE. (JK) do consider giving the scale a break and move to a weekly weigh-in vs the daily mental torture you do now. Not every victory in this journey comes from the scale and even when not losing weight other good things happen. There is a whole thread on NSV - that's non scale victories - give it a read and see how many apply now and what you have to look forward to.
  23. Just as a point to show the crazy variability in this process i had the exact opposite post op reaction. I was scary hyper for months after my surgery. It was between months 4-5 i guess before i started to feel what i considered normal energy levels. Pacing around bouncing off the walls, going to the gym 2 times a day 7 days a week and my poor wife just looking at me like i some crazy guy that broke into the house. While it might seem like a great thing i didnt like the no OFF feeling i had.
  24. there is so much variability in the pace of weight loss. It is important to have goals but be careful of setting a timeline that could cause you to doubt yourself and the process if you dont hit your schedule. grats on your getting a date.
