GeTnBackuP got a reaction from real sight in Anybody on the pre op liver shrinking diet???
I did the Bariatric Fusion liver reduction diet. I had a few roasted chick and broccoli cheat days mixed in. Lots of broth, Jello and tropical popsicles, black coffee. I struggled some but after a few days I did fine, I think mind and body just got used to it. I think it’s a good idea to prepare ourselves mentally for what is to come.

I’m probably going overboard but I’d rather have something at home than not especially since I’ll be alone for a day and a half....I also got things that will transition me from phase 1 into phase 2.

Liquid Tylenol, sublingual B12, Multivitamins, papaya tablets, milk of Magnesia or GasX, ginger tea, G2 Gatorade, pill crusher, SF Jello & pudding & popsicles, chicken broth, canned Beans, tuna and chicken for puréed Protein, powdered Peanut Butter, cream of wheat, powdered milk, applesauce, almond milk, all ingredients for the famous ricotta bake. I’ve got a couple books off Amazon and have stocked dry items or made a list for perishables for the recipes I’d like to try. They sound appetizing NOW but from what I’m reading the tastebuds may change...

Right now I'm eating 150g (5oz) Skyr (high Protein yogurt) with 20g of flaxseeds and a nectarine in it.
In about 3 hours I'll have a 5 oz portion of stew (lean meat, potatoes, carrots and celery root)
3 hours later I'll have ground chicken fajitas with bellpeppers (5oz total), a little cheddar and some sour cream (No tortilla)
3 hours after that I'm having 100g of smoked salmon on a piece of Protein bread and humus
And for an evening snack I'll have 1-2 mozzarella sticks
That is around 1100-1200 kcal 112g of protein, 53g of fat and 46g of carbs
A normal day for me is usually 1-2 cold meals and 3 warm meals. I meal prep and always have my freezer stacked with 3-4 options of pre portioned 5 oz meals to take to work and heat up. Without it I know this wouldn't have worked. Almost always when I make dinner I make a larger portion, so I can freeze the rest

I’ve searched high and low for diet guides for pre-op. Surgery is on Thursday, so I’ll have to switch to the clear diet on Monday I guess. My doctor told me to start the pre-op diet 7 days before, but I started a couple days early. Now I feel completely fatigued. I currently don’t meet the BMI for the surgery but qualified due to co-morbidities. Are there any solid foods that I can eat tomorrow to hopefully give me some strength to make the final 3 days?

To the weight loss surgery patient slider foods are the bane of good intentions and ignorance often causing dumping syndrome, weight loss plateaus, and eventually weight gain. Slider foods, to weight loss surgery patients, are soft simple processed carbohydrates of little or no nutritional value that slide right through the surgical stomach pouch without providing nutrition or satiation. The most innocent of slider foods are saltine crackers, often eaten with warm tea or other beverages, to soothe the stomach in illness or while recovering from surgery.
    Understanding Slider Foods
The most commonly consumed slider foods include pretzels, crackers (saltines, graham, Ritz, etc.) filled cracker Snacks such as Ritz Bits, popcorn, cheese snacks (Cheetos) or cheese crackers, tortilla chips with salsa, potato chips, sugar-free Cookies, cakes, and candy. You will notice these slider foods are often salty and cause a dry mouth so they must be ingested with liquid to be palatable. This is how they become slider foods. They are also, most often, void of nutritional value.
For weight loss surgery patients the process of digestion is different than those who have not undergone gastric surgery. When slider foods are consumed they go into the stomach pouch and exit directly into the jejunum where the simple carbohydrate slurry is quickly absorbed and stored by the body. There is little thermic effect in the digestion of simple carbohydrates like there is in the digestion of Protein so little metabolic energy is expended. In most cases patients in the phase of weight loss who eat slider foods will experience a weight loss plateau and possibly the setback of weight gain. And sadly, they will begin to believe their surgical stomach pouch is not functioning properly because they never feel fullness or restriction like they experience when eating protein.

The very nature of the surgical gastric pouch is to cause feelings of tightness or restriction when one has eaten enough food. However, when soft simple carbohydrates are eaten this tightness or restriction does not result and one can continue to eat, unmeasured, copious amounts of non-nutritional food without ever feeling uncomfortable.

Many patients turn to slider foods for this very reason. They do not like the discomfort that results when the pouch is full from eating a measured portion of lean animal or dairy protein without liquids. Yet it is this very restriction that is the desired result of the surgery. The discomfort is intended to signal the cessation of eating. Remembering the “Protein First” rule is crucial to weight management with bariatric surgery.

Gastric bypass, gastric banding (lap-band) and gastric sleeve patients are instructed to follow a high protein diet to facilitate healing and promote weight loss. Bariatric centers advise what is commonly known among weight loss surgery patients as the “Four Rules” the most important of which is “Protein First.” That means of all nutrients (protein, veggies, complex carbohydrates, then fat and alcohol) the patient is required to eat protein first.
Protein is not always the most comfortable food choice for weight loss surgery patients who feel restriction after eating a very small amount of food. However, for the surgical tool to work correctly a diet rich in protein and low in simple carbohydrate slider foods must be observed. The high protein diet must be followed even after healthy body weight has been achieved in order to maintain a healthy weight and avoid weight regain.

It could also be a combination of factors: not just the change in your appearance, but respect and admiration for your determination to do this hard thing and make a success of it. Or appreciation that you came though the surgery safely--he may have been nervous about that.
It's also possible to think you love someone as much as it's possible to love anyone and then find an even deeper level of love. Doesn't mean the earlier feeling was false.

Imagine if the roles were reversed: Imagine if your spouse did something that suddenly made you more attracted to that person. How would you feel if you knew that person was questioning if your relationship was superficial?

Wow, you look amazing, great job! Really, you’re such an inspiration. My surgery is a couple weeks out and I’m not really having doubts about it, more like questioning whether I can do it and follow through. I hear such horror stories about how difficult the transition is from us eating too much to not ever being able to overeat again, the restrictions and just adapting to an entirely different lifestyle. I KNOW I can do, guess I’m just scared. Like you said, I want to feel better too [emoji4] thanks for sharing!
