angyplus5 reacted to FluffyChix in Surgery date 11/30/17.....its getting real!
Gosh I totally get it. I have been going through my head for the last week or 2 (since my last RD appt). Yesterday I saw the surgeon and she's like...well hell! She said I had my 3 visits from the RD and she was gonna submit me for approval. We chose the surgery and wrote it in blood. Killed a newt and took its eye. Ripped out a lizard tongue and drew a pentagram on the floor. So I'm pretty sure this is a done deal. LOL. And I am scared.
On the way home I asked my self if I REAAAAALLLYYYY thought I would lose the rest of my weight on my own. Why would it be any different than the other eleventy billion times I've tried and failed. What would make it happen this time. What would make keeping it off a reality? Why wouldn't I just regain it all again plus the requisite 10-15%? The only answer I could come up with involved magic or voodoo.
Since I'm a good Catholic girl, I just figured I need to sac up and get my head, as*, and tummy in the game. (I had to "borrow a pair" to sac up...but you get the idea.) The reality is that the ONLY way I'm gonna be successful is to do something different this time. I think "that something different" is gonna have to be the RNY surgery. It just is and I have to get right with the Lord about that one. *sigh*
So now I'm in a waiting game. I "think" what's gonna happen is that I will get approved maybe in the next 2-3 weeks. Then my family vaca at Wurstfest that the surgeon knows about...then that Monday I would start the liquid diet. I think that means I will be in surgery (she only operates on Tuesday) on November 28 or December 5 and this sh*t is gonna be a reality...
So maybe we can get "the band back together" and be November surgery buddies. I just don't know if I'm jinxing things and jumping the gun by thinking it's gonna be November OR December. You know?
What are you doing to prepare your mental game for the "big show?"

I was excited a few days ago hearing my surgery date was moved up to May 23. A few days ago my father went into the hospital to have a lobectomy. He is now in ICU on life support.
They filmed him just out of surgery, barely unable to speak but he smiled and mentioned my surgery. I live out of state but hope he is still there on Wednesday when Im able to visit.
I'm so sad wondering if he will be around, concerned if he is suffering, right now they medicated him so he cannot move. He's up and down. It feels like a lot on my plate.
I feel heart heavy, that my personal happiness is also mixed with one of the most heartbreaking hurdles in my life.
Thinking of my father, praying for his health, hoping for the best. He would want me to be healthy.
    I love you dad.

angyplus5 reacted to confusedturtle3 in Bone broth recipes
I have had a few people ask for my recipes, and I’ve asked for a few as well, so I thought I’d start a thread for Bone Broth recipes. I use an instapot but you can use a crock pot or just a pot on the stove. The stove top process will take longer but should have the same results. For the chicken one I bought 2 roasted chickens from Sams club and after we ate the meat I used the bones. For beef I went to the local meat market and bought a stew bone, I didn’t like the finished product so I’m going to try the Asian market. For pork I used 3 ham hocks.
For all my broths I just combine veggies that I would put in Soup (carrots, celery, mushrooms, onions, broccoli etc), herbs (bay leaf, thyme etc), about 2 chicken skeletons worth of bones and enough Water to cover the bones. I use the soup setting on the instapot to cook it well done for 1 hour. When it’s done I take out the veggies & herbs and replace with fresh, I do this 2 more times with the same bones & liquid. After they cook through 3-4 times I strain the juices into a separate pot and discard the rest, add salt & pepper to taste & let it cool. Once it has cooled there will be a layer of fat on top, just remove it and discard it.
I added the broth into soup containers I found on Amazon and froze them. I have used some of it to make Soups and saved some for the liquid diet stage. When using it for the liquid diet stage warm it up to below 140 degrees, anything hotter will denature the Protein you will be adding to it. Mix in enough tasteless Protein Powder to achieve your protein needs. I believe the website I checked said it should contain 17g of protein but definitely research it, I could be wrong. I have made beef (still looking for recipes, mine was not good), chicken (yum!), pork broths and from those I’ve also made ham/bean soup, turkey zuppa toscana, chicken soup and pumpkin butternut squash soup. I ran half of each batch of soup through the food processor for the purée stage. Feel free to add your own recipes to this thread, we can help each other through this . Here is one of my freezer shelf’s

    Hi Mdsd52

I had my surgery on 03/2016. Due to my complications I lost weight very quickly. I went from 315 to about 199 by Jan 2017.
I understand your frustrations and fears alot. Even as I was losing weight on the outside I was in an emotional turmoil on the inside. I was unable to drink Water beyond a few sips for months. I followed the trajectory of "typical" gastric sleeves and I was not having the same plateaus as others.
My NG tube was removed 3 weeks after my surgery. I returned to work finally after my 5th week on leave.
I will not say it was easy. I started at work being able to only eat 4 it's of cream of chicken Soup and baby oatmeal. For wèeks that's all I had. I couldn't tolerate Protein or milk. I threw Every thing up.
I was so scared and second guessing the surgery every step of the way. People ask me now do I regret it and I say " you have to have a certain level of inner strength to get thru the process."
I was an atypical gastric sleeve patient but as I began to understand my body more and paying attention to triggers. I became more comfortable with eating again.
To this day I still throw up if I eat the wrong thing or to much. This pulls me down emotionally sometimes.
All I can say to you is this is a hard and bleak time now. Even though your body is not responding the way the typical patients heal. Does not mean you will not. If your like me it just may take a lot longer.
I have to add this. Due to my surgery I became more fertile and I got pregnant 9 months after my surgery ( also not recommended).
I was so scared because I barely was getting enough calories for me - now I have to eat a certain amount more to sustain a child. I had a few complications during my pregnancy. But my son was born 09/2017. In this I am thankful for the surgery. I thought my chances at having children had passed.
I say this to say... Dont give up and remember others have been where you are even if you can't find others like you online... In a year or two life can be dramatically different.
But for now please be patient with yourself and your doctors... If you need more answers explore other bariatric MD's and get there input. I had my surgery at Univ of Chicago
If you want more info or have questions or simply need to cry and vent during this time I can be your ear.

I am sorry to hear of your complications but remember be patient. Just be patient with yourself and it is ok to be afraid and angry and happy all at once at this chaotic time.

Thank you for your response! I had a patch when I was in the hospital. I'm going to ask about getting another one tomorrow. And I have some sea bands around here somewhere I will try as well. I didn't take any pain meds until a nurse urged me to try it and it actually helped me but I don't want to take it for nausea. It truly does come and go so I hope each day will continue to be better. I must admit, I was having significant buyers' remorse before the nausea was controlled for a bit and I was able to sleep. Thankfully I have not dry heaved in about 48 hours which I consider a major victory!

I could consume 800-850 calories in shakes total 80gr Protein, plus any broth, crystal light, sf Jello, sf popsicles. I drank ready-made Premier, ready-made Isopure, Jay Robb packets - dreamsicle is my fav, Syntax nectar.
Hospital - phone/charger, biotene spray, lip balm, slippers, robe, my own tea bags, hair brush, headband, and toiletries, and novel to read. I wore my same clothes home that I came in (leisure bra because it won't rub incisions.). My own pillow and lap quilt - was just to quell my nerves.

Hi Zoxie! Congrats on your surgery date!!! I'm still pre op but my diet will be 5 Protein Shakes and Water that's it. One thing I've read on here is to take an extension cord for your charger and biotene for dry mouth and feminine products just in case.
Best of luck on your journey!!!

I had my gallbladder attacks the year after my lapband was placed. I initially thought I had slipped or something scary like that. The pain was severe to where I wasn't able to stand and walk upright. I crawled. Ended up calling 911 thinking I was dying, having a heart attack or something. Flash forward to 3 fire trucks in my front yard, 7 or 8 firemen standing in my living room with me unable to breath deeply or sit completely upright trying to hold my shirt up so the one guy could put the stickies on my bare chest (no bra) while the other 7 stood there an watched. I was in so much pain that I didn't give a damn. A week later my gall bladder was removed.
It's all humorous to me now but I really thought I was dying at the time. The pain radiates from your stomach up your shoulder and down your back. So glad that bugger is gone, also glad my torture band was removed too (this year)

My attacks were bad. I would have severe abdomnal pain. The last attack before removal was so bad it brought me to the ground and I could not even get up for close to 30 minutes. Thats when we went to the hospital..

Mine happened after eating fatty food. I ate a single serve bag of Cheetos and had acute excruciating pain in my abdominals that made me bow over and want to scream (I wasn’t even obese then either). I had to have my sil come get me from work and take me to the ER. The next day I had my gallbladder out. it’s been 17 years, but that was the last time I had a Cheeto and will never touch those things again. Lol
