dennisdj reacted to blondie66 in All of the sudden I can stand protein shakes and anything dairy
Yeah I hear you! The first 18 months post op I could never eat enough Protein to get my 60 grams of protein a day in and I was worried about losing my hair and messing up my metabolism so drank the pre-made premier ones sometimes with ice to make them bearable.
It's probably best to speak to a nutritionist asap so u can get a program to balance out your protein to ensure you're getting enough.

Same with me just the thought of protein shakes makes me want to gag! I think it's just because our body's are fed up lol

I was going very well with Protein Shakes now if I try to drink them I throw up. The same thing with milk or cheese. The only thing I eat is 1 egg for Breakfast and I buy a rotisserie chicken from Walmart once a week and make chicken salad with light mayo. 3ozs of that for lunch and dinner. I don't know if I am getting enough Protein. I tried different protein shakes but the taste makes me throw up. Any suggestions?

dennisdj reacted to Jess13 in Has anyone kept their surgery a secret?
Well, I am just taking the "this is my choice and is what I am doing and if u don't like I don't really care" approach. If people ask, I will tell them. I am at the point I need to lose 100 pounds to be healthier and happier. I am doing this to help reduce my chance of becoming diabetic or having a stroke or heart attack and to help increase my energy level. Of course I want to look better, but my main focus is becoming healthier and more active. Some people will be supportive, some will judge, but at least i will know who your supporters are and aren't. I have educated some people who have asked but why are you doing this, and it gave them a different outlook. I never thought my parents would be onboard, but I said I can have this surgery and be healthier and live longer or not have the surgery and die younger and be miserable. Surgery is just a tool though, I am preop but I am working on changing my eating habits and exercise habits. I am so excited to have lost 10 pounds in the past two months, but I still have 100 to go. I am approaching this as a lifestyle change and not just a diet. I am tired of plateauing at 220-225 pounds and never getting below that point. I know this can help me get past that point and into onederland. I haven't been in onederland for 20 years! So, I say stop worrying what everyone will say and show them why you made this choice, because you will be successful, healthier and happier! We have allowed people to talk about us and our weight behind our backs so why worry about what they are going to say about surgery? We can't change those people who will judge or gossip, but let's not waste our time worrying about it or them either. keep your head up and be proud!

No I didn't keep my surgery a secret. Boy do I regret it. Someone I know had the surgery prior to me told me not to tell anyone because ppl are going to hate. I didnt believe it because I'm always supportive & compliment others. I told my sister in law and she went on for hours about all the ppl she knows that had unsuccessful surgeries and I'm going to have all this flabby skin. She even went as far as stop talking to me. Smh I am so hurt!!

dennisdj reacted to Polarbearwifey in Too much exercise is feeding my stall! Who Knew????
I have the same problem. I spend 2-3 hrs in the gym 3-5 days a week or if I can't go to the gym I workout at the house pretty much the same amount of time. I've being in a stall for almost two months now and they sent me to eat every two hrs and I simply can't put all that food in my stomach. They told me I've being burning the double of calories I'm consuming. And is so frustrating bc I don't want any batwings or anything hanging in my body.
I will take your advice and do less days and try to eat more. Let's see if I brake this stall.

Omg I just had my first experience with dumping....its horrible....I truly feel your pain
-
dennisdj reacted to blondie66 in First and last experience with dumping
Remember to eat slow and do not drink anything with meals that can cause dumping in early stages. Just take it slow and try smaller portion in a few days and make sure sugar content per serving is below 20 grams.

dennisdj got a reaction from akaet in First and last experience with dumping
Got excited to eat purée foods for the first time and over did it on a meal. Dumping is no joke and I will not be experiencing that again. Throwing up and this feeling of food going up in down was very painful and lasting for about an hour.

dennisdj reacted to Rivka7NV in A week late on pre op surgery diet
The purpose of the pre-op diet is to get rid of some of the fat around your liver so it is easier to move aside and get to the stomach.
One cannot make up for lost time but you can move forward and pay strict attention to the 3 major factors - Water, exercise and food intake.

dennisdj reacted to XYZXYZXYZ1955 in A week late on pre op surgery diet
Be honest with your surgeon and see what he/she says. The last thing you want is for it to be rescheduled after they put you under, put some incisions in, and realize they can't do it! (And I'm not saying that's what would happen.)

You should be fine. It's hard to start any diet around the holidays. Good luck in your new lifestyle journey!

dennisdj reacted to pfisher in Starting my journey!!!
Hi BrandiJo,
I received my referral to the surgeon yesterday. My first appointment with the surgeon is 8/9. Because of insurance requirements, my doctor supervised weight loss program has to be in effect for six months before surgery can be scheduled.
My husband is a great support since he just had the surgery in April. He is doing well so far and has no regrets. He is totally onboard with my decision to get sleeved too. I can relate to your SO's concerns tho. We have had several discussions about how we will handle any increased attention from others as our weight drops. Keeping communication open, honest, with a good sense of humor has worked wonders! 😀
Wishing you the best of luck! Hope to follow your journey as it goes along.
