    Hi Brock,
Big Star Wars nerd here myself! I was in your shoes in late October last year when I started my 2 week pre-op diet.
You will be able to eat mostly anything again, but for the first few months you won't be able to. You know what? We've eaten so much of all the foods we like that we got ourselves up to the size that we need bariatric surgery. We've had plenty of delicious goodies. You'll have to take a break from them for a while. You'll survive. In fact, after surgery you don't even get that hungry and when you do eat you get full after only a few ounces. I've found that even when I could again eat a fast food burger or fries, that the grease did not sit well with me so I don't even want that type of thing anymore. I'll tell you what the big payoff is.
Today I stepped on the scale and it said I was 298 pounds. Last October I was 470. You can have very similar results yourself.
Just do what the doctor says, follow the dietary guidelines they give you and listen to your body.
Just think where you'll be this December when you go see The Last Jedi. You'll fit in the theater seat better and you'll be able to walk around easier. Life will improve greatly! Good luck!!!

Camry reacted to Introversion in surgeon postponed my procedureHello everyone. I had surgery scheduled for July 25th but due to my weight gain(yeah yeah, I know spare me the lecture please !) the surgeon does not feel comfortable going forward with the original date. So yeah, I know
Welcome! I'm not judging you for the weight gain. I also gained weight preoperatively due to food funerals (compulsively eating favorite foods 'one last time' before saying "goodbye"). Luckily, the operation preceded as planned and I've been able to maintain my 100+ pound weight loss.
The honeymoon period of 6 to 18 months will be a time of almost effortless weight loss because neurohormonal changes have altered your setpoint. However, after the honeymoon period ends, the likelihood of weight regain is staggeringly high if you don't get your head fully into the game.
Bariatric surgeons operate on our stomachs, not our brains. People have regained 100+ pounds with their bands, sleeves and bypass pouches in place.
I'd say 90 percent of this game is psychological. Pre-existing issues with compulsive eating, binge-eating, food addiction or emotional eating will never be corrected by weight loss surgery. The majority of people with these issues need some professional help to avoid repeating same pre-surgery eating patterns.
Good luck to you. You've got this.

Sorry but being two weeks out and staying positive even though I'm nervous this post keeps popping up at the top of my feed and it's SUPER Irritating. Sorry your family member had a complication from a surgery but why come in here and freak people out. What are you expecting to get out of it? Your not offering any info that would need a response from anybody us so go talk to some Doctors about his specific complications. Your here just telling us they should ban the surgery when obviously many of us have and are Benefitting from this surgery. What is your goal here? People are showing you links to the stats showing how safe this surgery is in comparison to other surgeries. We obviously know the risks when we do elective surgery. Enough already. Jeez. Did I mention I'm still in full liquid stage and a bit grumpy.

I'm doing well! Off of the pain meds right now and able to drink the Protein Shakes in tiny amounts. The burping from all of the air is not fun but I've found that walking certainly helps.
Can't wait to hear from others!

Number 1 question people ask - How do you feel? It's interesting because I think it has multiple meanings. Oh and no one asked how I felt 9 months ago.....

I was asked yesterday and yesterday's meaning was linked to are you happy "do you regret your decision."

Other meaning do you feel sickly or unhealthy?

For me it's hard to distinguish those that have real heart felt concern.

I work in healthcare and my nurses all ask "how do you feel," their view is somewhat biased because they see more complicated patients than positive patient outcomes. Probably honest worry from most.

My mother asks "Do you feel okay?". Of course she is emotionally linked and worried and happy with my progress.

All that said our feelings are important and being in touch with our new bodies on this journey is critical. I just wish I felt more support from those that ask how do you feel "almost like I shouldn't feel great or sound like I've made the best decision of my life."

I'm 8.5 months out and have lost 217lbs. Beautiful experience!!! I climbed 120 "flights"of stairs in 30 min last week on a stair climber... Now that's not something I've ever done before in my life... Life changing!!!

    I feel fabulous!!!!

I have Cigna and I had to pay co insurance of $750 but that was it. That was when I had the endoscopy. They told me I would have nothing further out of pocket. Also, after my 3 months of doctor visits and nutritionist visits, plus all of the other appointments and clearances, I was approved in a few days. My surgery is on July 14th.

Camry reacted to Pam_2-06-2017 in Sleeve next month: are there some foods we will never eat again ever?
It was a hard concept for me to get until I was post op a couple of months. WLS does not keep you from eating anything. After you heal you will, for the most part, be able to eat anything you want but in smaller quantities. I have absolutely no problem eating anything at all. With the exception of fried potatoes, which is ok with me.

You've probably heard it before but this surgery is a tool to help you learn the self control needed to maintain a healthy weight. Consequently, you will not succeed if you do not change your relationship with food. I still enjoy a good meal but it is a rare treat to indulge myself. I stick with my plan of 60-100g of Protein and less than 25g of carbs and ensuring I drink 64 oz Water a day. Staying within that guideline has worked for me. Occasionally I slip when I'm with family or friends but my new tool helps me to get back at it the next day.

I encourage you to use pre op and post op restrictions to evaluate your relationship with food. You will mourn the loss, regret your decision, and get angry because you did this to yourself. You experience the toughest breakup you have ever known. Your very emotional relationship with food must come to an end and it hurts like hell. But!!!! There is so much joy on the other side of that.

I drive through town and never think of running through a drive thru. I can prepare a meal for my family without "tasting" a full meals worth of calories. I can go to a movie and skip the buttered popcorn. These are concepts that I did not know existed.

You will get it. You will know exactly what I mean and it will be so freeing. I am amazed what I missed because eating was so important to me.

    Good luck! And take care.

Sure I will share my journey. I struggled with my weight once I married and started having children. I would lose on fad diets i.e. Atkins x 2, Weight Watchers, Low calorie and low fat, then I would gain it all back plus some. I decided the only way to lose it for good was to have surgery, so after much research I decided to do it. I had my 1st appt. Jan. 12, 2017, was told that I would need a psych. eval, nutrition class, and endoscopy. I was able to complete those very quickly and had Gastric Sleeve surgery Feb. 28th, 2017. Pre-op was no fun but bearable, mine was weeks long on just liquid. I was in hospital for 1 night, I had no issues. I have had laparoscopic surgery before when they took my gallbladder out and this was about the same. I walked, walked, and walked some more during my stay in the hospital (the narcotics are like caffeine to me). Walking and getting up to move is vital for a quick recovery. Lots of burping in the beginning, before during and after eating but that goes away. Learning to "eat" again has been a balancing act, but it is so easy now. Post surgery I had a week of full liquids, then pureed for 2 weeks, soft food for 2 weeks and then to regular food. During the pureed, I ate baby food and Protein Shakes. I have apparently a tough stomach as I did not have issues eating. My bariatric surgeon recommends a Mediterranean diet, fish fruits and veggies. I eat what I am supposed to eat and do not cheat with food that is no good for me. Everything you put in your mouth after surgery should be something that is vital for you body to have, because you won't have room to waste on stuff that won't give you any nutritional value. You WILL have stalls after and wonder why you aren't losing when you are really barely eating anything but this is not a bad thing, if you lose too fast you are most likely burning muscle mass and not fat. I don't exercise religiously but I do try to get in a little weight training or walking several times a week. I HATE exercise!! This has been a relatively easy process for me because I am 100% committed to being healthy!! Nothing will make me eat like I did before, its not an option in my opinion. I never want to feel that way again because being healthy feels so much better. Good luck on your journey!! Feel free to ask anything else!

Just got the call! Have to be in at 5:30 am extremely nervous, but also excited. Not sure how many friends and family I have that are actually in support of this and it's taken me many years to come to this decision along with this past year of getting clearances! All my drs can agree on seem to be this procedure! I truly hope I have no complication and that I am making the right choice. Thank you to this support groups for at least giving a safe place to voice my journey !
