I'm not sure what staples she had out, but the ones in our new stomach stay in. I don't think I have any staples that will come out--my teeny tiny incisions have mostly healed.

Glad it went well! Was it hard to keep the Water down? Was there anything that surprised you or that you weren't expecting?

I had my surgery at Marina Del Rey Hospital as well. The staff is great, super friendly. I packed an overnight bag with much more than I actually needed. I was too uncomfortable to read so I just watched whatever was on the television. I did not sleep much the first night, mostly after I was out of surgery. Walk a lot afterward.
One of the things I wished I had done prior to surgery is weight training. Building muscle before surgery, if you can, will help you so much. Even if you just have a few weeks, you should start building muscle if you are able to exercise.

I'm right there with you. I have 4 kids and a husband. I've never taken care of myself or out myself first. It feels strange to do that. It's kind of fun though. I'm enjoying getting myself ready for work and not fretting about clothes. I've gotten a new haircut and some new makeup. I still take care of my family , but I'm not putting myself last anymore. I think you might feel the same way once you are post surgery.

I know where your coming from that's all I ever did was take care of everyone but me. Sadly now I am in so much pain and out of shape. I use an amigo when I shop. I hate feeling like this. So it is now my turn it's all about me and my health. I'm 61 I'm going to have the sleeve done soon waiting for a surgery date. I'm so excited I'm have trouble sleeping thinking about it. Thoughts of maybe it won't work or wow I could be thin. So very many thoughts. But I'm ready for this journey. My daughter had the sleeve done two years ago. She looks amazing she lost 130 pounds. She a whole new person. Good luck you will do great!

As I am almost to my surgery date 8-29-2017 my pre-op diet has been not as bad as I thought the first few days I was very weak, the feeling of crashing came on most often but , now as I beginning to pack my hospital bag and prepare my mind for this journey that both my mind and body are about to take, I am very nervous... I am not nervous that I can not change my eating habits, I am also not nervous for the pain, or the way my life is about to change very quickly in just the next few short days.... My nerves are coming from the sheer fact that for the first time in 32 years I have to take care of ME and that is a very VERY scary concept for me.. I take care of kids, my kids, our kids, their kids, my spouse our family's, my siblings, I take care of so many things and people in My life... that not taking care of me has been easy because I always had the excuse that I only had time to shovel junk in my mouth or I did not have time to work out or live a healthy lifestyle... the transition has been easy thus far but I no this will be a battle of me learning to do what I can do to care for myself... I wonder if I am the only one that feels like this, how will I make time, how will I learn to say no for myself... how can I be better for me with out feeling an over whelming guilt or feeling of selfishness??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated Thank you and Have a wonderful day

Hi , I'm 5 days post op... sleeved 8/22 and I would suggest to bring a pad or adult diaper or whatever because I had a lot of nausea and dry heaving and it would cause urine incontinence every time I was puking. I'm just keeping it real ... lol I also literally slept and was focused on getting the the 5 rounds of 10- 1 oz Water cups down . I did manage to brush my teeth but mostly slept, walked ( bring slippers) and drank. I was released the next day after surgery. Good Luck , you'll do great!

I brought a toothbrush, toothpaste, underwear, loose pants and a no seem sports bra and extra loose tshirt. I was super bloated from the CO2 in surgery so I was glad I sized up on the tshirt so it wasn't snug on my incisions. I also brought a couple tampons and pads. My nurse warned me that many times surgery can cause the start of a period and I was lucky enough to have that happen so I was glad to have things ready post surgery. I've heard hospital pads are a little thick. I also brought some slip on/mule sneakers but I suppose flip flops would work as well. Also I brought wet wipes and deodorant. I didn't get to shower in the hospital so it helped me feel better to freshen up a bit. I packed a bunch of other stuff but I think the rest stayed in my bag.
Best wishes for your surgery! Hope all goes well!

I was sleeved a few days ago, and currently have zero desire to eat! I'm on full liquids now, so I am sticking to the Premier Protein shakes. I'm really surprised at how good I am feeling. I hope it lasts!

I do experience hunger. But some liquids seem to quench it now. Most of all, many of my cravings have calmed down.
My biggest challenge will be this weekend. High school football Friday. Then Saturday going to watch my daughter March in her college marching band. I will be wanting some nachos so bad!

I told my boss (so she'd know why I suddenly had so many doctor's appointments), my two best friends at work, and the lady who handles days off requests (so she'd know why I was scheduling sick days in advance). They kept things under control for me.
I had my surgery Friday and got out of the hospital the very next day. They considered keeping me an extra night, then my pain level went way down and they turned me loose. I made it back to work for half days by the very next Tuesday and Wednesday, and worked full days Thursday and Friday. I have an office job, so it wasn't so bad for me to get back.
It's been about a week and a half now and my wounds have healed almost entirely. My stomach doesn't hurt, but it's grumbly and perpetually adjusting and sort of odd-feeling.
I'm pretty private, too. The quick recovery time definitely made it easier for me to slip this by the co-workers of mine I wouldn't want to discuss this with.

Sure! From the left, that small container is Vitamin samples ive gotten from support group meetings. Then in the next container in the middle I have individual packs of Quest Protein in different flavors (since I didnt want to buy a big container till I knew what I liked), then a box of nectar chocolate truffle Protein Powder, and a pack of Atkins mocha latte shake to go with my morning coffee instead of Creamer. Last box on the right I habe some sample packs of protein powder handed out at group (chocolate and vanilla flavored Unjury and orange cream Bariatric Advantage), a container of chocolate protein flavor given to me by a friend not aure of the brand, 365 Everyday Value brand vanilla protein, large container of vanilla milkshake Quest protein powder, and a Pro-Stat sugar free medical protein.

It's great that your excited. You never know who you maybe able to give your extra or unused supplies to. Some people bring there extra to there support group for other people. Some also share them with in there Facebook group. Either way none of it will be wasted.

8 days post-op. Had sudden bp drop before bed last night. Ok now. No pain. Back at work. Just moved from Clear Liquids x7 days to all liquid diet x21 days. First meal was crm chick Soup with some mashed potatoes mixed in real thin and blended. 3 oz over an hour and that was it. Hopefully Breakfast goes better with cream of wheat. I do wish I could just down a bottle of Water like I used to but sticking with my sips and 4-8 oz/hr at the moment.

1 week post op as of today! Feeling pretty good overall and really not in any pain, except for sneezing and coughing. Incisions look like they're doing pretty good, I check them twice a day (morning and night). No signs of other complications so far. I personally have to do liquids for two weeks post op before going to puree. I am having some difficulty getting enough hydration and food, getting bored of what I can eat really easily. On the giant plus side: down 10 pounds from surgery and I've lost several inches from different parts of my body. Looking forward to next week when I can have things like pudding and cheese.
Hope everyone else is recovering well and has excellent success on the road ahead!

** Time of operation has its effect: My surgery was Tuesday 11 am and I was able to be released Wednesday afternoon. My surgeon did three operations Tuesday, one before and one after me. I genuinely think having mine happen in the morning was an advantage. The woman done after me ended up being my hospital room roommate. Her situation was a little more complex on the surface (she was heavier and had some co-morbidities (CPAP machine at least)), but I also think there were ways the time of day slowed down her progression through the post surgical diet stages. I got all the way through stage 1 (water) and stage 2 (flavored water/broth) the first day and was able to start up shakes when I woke up. When I left, it looked like she would be staying through a second night. For me, I was anxious to get home so I could get proper rest without being poked for vitals every 2 hours, etc.
** I was not expecting to still be in sharp pain today, 3 days post op, but I can't really remember what it was like when I had my tubes out and my husband says it was similar. I have six laparoscopic incisions, 3 of which are barely noticeable, and two of which are significant with deep muscle stitches and wide bruising. I have no pain at all when lying down on my back, semi reclined sitting, or standing, other than the occasional gas bubble. Transitions, however, whether between positions or bending to reach something, make things jump from a dull 1 or 2 on the pain scale to a sharp 8 or 9, all about using the abdominal muscles with those deep incisions. So, I am still taking pain medication for today. I have a deep family history of substance problems (not my own, but still), so am anxious about taking it, even if it is as prescribed.
-- I got 4 different Protein Drinks to try during my two week pre-op diet and definitely have my personal favorite at this point:
4 -- Bariatric Advantage powder (given as a sample from my surgeon's office) -- Can't get it to mix all the way no matter what, which leaves for a "crumbly" and lumpy shake. Taste is ok, no aftertaste to speak of.
3 -- Pur Protein premade, vanilla & chocolate --texture is a little "off," maybe a bit oily or not fully homogenized? And it has the worst aftertaste of the bunch, definitely chalky. Avail at super markets & GNC & web.
2 -- Premier premade in the square containers, chocolate -- This one is good, room temp or cold. Taste a little too much like liquid pudding for my personal preference, but I could use it for a couple of weeks as needed. Avail at super markets & GNC & web.
1 -- Orgain chocolate & vanilla 26g -- far and away my favorite. I don't see this brand mentioned much, but it meets or beats the nutritional profile of the others, without artificial flavoring or preservatives. Basically tastes like good chocolate milk or a melted not too sweet vanilla shake. Unlike the others, I could see having this as part of our kitchen staples forever without resentment. https://www.amazon.com/Orgain-Organic-Protein-Creamy-Chocolate/dp/B01MZE5Y50 Note they also have the square containers ones with lower protein amount, if you want 16g or 20g on your plan instead of this one with 26g.
Sending lots of warm wishes for all of you starting this journey this month with me.

The creator of the ricotta cheese bake is Shelly, and she has an amazing blog at theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com filled with lots of great recipes for pureed stage and after. I've found it to be an absolute godsend. Her Protein ice cream is better than halo top and easy to make, here's a link to her recipes for that: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2008/08/protein-ice-cream.html
She's also on Pinterest, IG and Twitter. I seriously don't know how I'd be making it through these last 2 weeks on pureed/mechanical soft without her. Give it a try! And seriously, that protein ice cream is to die for....

google 3rd week stall vsg and I promise you soooo many of us have had it! It's sooo stressful and disheartening but it breaks. My three week stall lasted for 3 weeks. I was 203 for 3 weeks, then ate kind of bad one weekend and had a lot of sex and boom...stall broken I was 199. I kept bouncing between 201 and 199 and stayed there for like two weeks, went to the lake for labor day, came back and I was 196.6 or something. It was awesome. I'm two months post op and see people posting like "average weight loss 7-10lbs a month" and i'm nowhere near that and it makes me feel crappy but I'm just a slow loser and I can't remember a time where I ever lost 32 lbs or even in 2 months! First month was rough for me too but I'd say around week 5 and 6 it got a little better. I'm still adjusting my eating habits and eating slower and chewing more and I definitely don't drink as much Water as I should. I need to be way better quite honestly. I don't count or measure what I eat...I should. I"m sure if I did all these things, my weight loss would be more but I'm doing what makes me happy. It will get better as cliche as that sounds!
