I am already doing that at 2 weeks out. A friend of mine told me that during chemo, she lost taste as well. She said she played up the taste that she did like. Such as sour, she did a lot of things that were sour. If it was bitter she also did those. Just becarful, don't want ulcers from the acid. Hope that helps.

Do you find that one day a food is okay and then the next day it makes you very sick? That's been my problem. I've been getting in my Protein and liquids okay but almost all food tastes sour to me. I am three weeks out from surgery...

InThisLife reacted to blondie66 in Nausea - when will it go away?
So sorry to hear! Hopefully in a few days as your stomach calms down so will the nausea. I was on an IV for a day the Drs said they were bringing out the tough meds - had no idea what it was but stopped the nausea and then I took a pill daily for 3 months.

Try and get the Protein Shakes in I used Premier Protein ready made shakes. Don't rush solids.

I still have peppermint tea at times to help when queasy.

Yes!!! That's exactly what it was! Worst experience of my life! I learned my lesson quickly, that's for sure! I only experienced it once more, which was yesterday, but I recognized the symptoms quickly so I stopped before it got too bad... Never again... This IS a learning process, isn't it?

@mrsroyaleIt sounds like you had something called foamies. I have had 3 of them, and they are so freaking painful.
    Hope this helps a little.
A few answers copied from another threads.
"Foamies" are when you vomit up part of your meal (a nasty saliva foamy mix). It happens if you eat too much, eat too fast, or don't chew well enough. Foamies result when your stoma becomes blocked and the body's natural reaction is to produce a slimy foam liquid and copious amounts of it.
After you experience this once or twice, you tend to detect the warning signs and stop before you get to this stage."
" You can avoid them by taking small bites, chew-chew-chew, eat slowly, measure small portions and stick to them, and avoid dry food "
" It hurt right in the center of my chest and I started to get juicy jaws (when saliva starts pouring) "

60 Sandy: if you have heartburn or gerd Im sure your surgeon will say bypass for you. The acid reflux can get worse with the sleeve and many end up getting a revision to the bypass because of it.

Hi Tarver, Yes i also did same thing before surgery! I am a christian and i know my faith help see me through every bit of it. The Dr even said my healing process was faster then most. i was so desperate for this life change. No matter what, i am all in! For me it was not about the weight loss as it was about being healthy. I survived cancer two year ago and am in high range for another cancer, along with being 150 lbs overweight increases my chances even more and the newest addition was type 2 diabetes. This was the best decision i ever made! I am now diabetics free, off all meds and all my reports came back and i am cancer free still. I feel good! I am going to make this next half of my life fun, active, and amazing! Im 45yrs old going on 30! Blessing to you on your journey!

What a life changer. I love every bit of this process and my new lifestyle. Surgery went great and no complications, my energy high the whole time. So far no Hair loss.

Most folks hit a stall around the third week after surgery, so you're right on schedule. Also, us women can "gain" Water weight easily at certain times. Two pounds isn't a huge amount, and mine has fluctuated that much several times in the two months since surgery. Hang in there, keep drinking, walk walk walk and you'll do fine!

I switched to the Bariatric Advantage multi that has everything but Calcium so I don't have to take so many. They are chewable. Then the only other one I need to take and chew is their chewable calcium, since you can't take that at the same time as the others anyway. Soo I got down from about six to only these two.

do you know what happens when someone punches you in the eye? The eye swells up, retains Fluid and looks like crap. for a long while. And that was just a PUNCH, imagine having someone reach in and pull out an organ...wait, you CAN! Because that's what happened. lol!

Your body is recovering from a trauma, it's gonna hold onto fluids and doesn't want to let go, it's healing and freaking out. You are still working out the gas in your system, your body is only JUST figuring out how to digest Water let alone function normally or release the fluids and nutrients it's afraid of losing.

Give your body some time to recover. It's totally ok, you aren't a failure except in the fact that you are failing to give your body the time and consideration it needs. You are gonna do great, I PROMISE!!!!

Transitioning to solid foods such as chicken and steaks can be very difficult. Therefore I focused on primarily softer foods such as Soups and chili. There is no need to force this transition, just take your time. I have included a few recipes at the end of the following article. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf
First and foremost, dumping is a learning experience. Once you have done it, you never want to repeat the experience again. So a couple words of wisdom.

Recognize the pre-triggers and stop eating the moment you encounter them in the future. The pre-triggers can be hiccups, sneezing, excessive mucous, a change in the way food taste, and others. Individuals are different and their pre-triggers vary.

Dumping experience can last for several hours. In general maintain a vertical position instead of a horizontal. If you lay down on a bed or couch, it will only aggravate the experience. As a result it is important not to eat a meal close to bedtime. Generally when I experience dumping, I go to the toilet and force myself to vomit up some of the food I ate. That helps to relieve the condition.

I'm waving to you from BART.
They may be ho hum but good for you for sticking to the plan!

I'm planning for my first work trip at 8 weeks. I am putting together a care package I'm mailing to hotel as I refuse to check my bag.

I like to bring a shaker bottle and Protein Drink powders...like cran grape or lemonade. Gets me Protein and fluids!
I also like PB2 powder. Even the regular Peanut Butter to go cups...higher in fat and calories than pb2 but they work in a pinch.
I haven't tried my first Protein Bar yet but they were staples of my pre op travels. Also prepacked nuts.

It's been absolutely amazing for me! I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. I have had no issues at all. I'm never hungry. I had surgery on may 2nd and I am down 46lbs. The weight loss has slowed big time but I'm still dropping every week. I get full really fast, And when I say full I mean I'm not longer hungry at all. It was worth it to me 110%. All my health issues are gone, I feel alive again. I was scared beyond belief before surgery and then I just said to myself, it's going to be great and I'm going to be just fine. I wish I could tell everyone how great this surgery really is! Good luck to you!!!

Hi.. I am new here.. like a few hours new. . Wow. the advice that
    BgR72
gave you was spot on with what is going on with me. I had my sleep study back in may and i just got my cpap machine last week. My surgeon said its fine i just have to have it with me in surgery, and i also need to just have a consultation with a pulmonologist before surgery.I Am at a 10 also. My surgery center also has stated that if you do have a Cpap machine , even if your regular settings are higher than 10. it needs to be set to 10 for surgery. Good Luck!!

Surgery is happening as planned, on June 16th. I'm so relieved! I was starting to think I was doing this clear liquid diet/torture for nothing!! Well...not nothing really, because I've lost 11 pounds in 4 days! I'll take that as a victory!
