I definitely focus on "protein first" at meals and try to make my Snacks high in Protein as well (a slice of turkey rolled with a slice of provolone is one of my favorites, and Cabot makes a 50 calorie sharp cheddar snacking cheese that I LOVE). My typical day is below. (I'd love to see other people post what they eat in a day??)
I've also stopped drinking Premier Protein shakes almost entirely. I had been using them for Breakfast, but now I'm making my own smoothies again, with Protein Powder. One problem I had was I would nurse a Protein Shake all morning, which my nutritionist said was not good because it kept me from drinking Water, and from eating real food. My own smoothies help me get more real food (fruits, veggies) too, which I like much better (and I make sure to finish my 8 oz smoothie in about 20 minutes so I can move on to water).
Water is hard but I find I do better if I spend the money to just buy bottled Vitamin Water Zero. The cost adds up but they taste so much better than plain water or even putting Stur or Crystal Lite in water that I'm more likely to drink them, which makes it worth the cost. (My grocery store, Wegmans, has some of their own brand that are great, and a little cheaper than Vitamin Water.)

    Cottage cheese
    Advocado
    Beef Jerky
    Grilled chicken
    Ground beef w veggies
    Sandwich meat
    Shredded beef

Since before surgery I would drink a gallon plus of Water a day so that part has been easy...only thing is since surgery water has to be ICE cold to go down ok.

Hi everyone. I was sleeved on 1/23/18 so I’m almost exactly 2 weeks post op. I’m down 20lbs yay!

I had started to feel better about 10 days out, but last night I got increased pain on my right side so bad it made me nauseous... I was dry heaving this morning but then it subsided after I got back on my pain meds. I had stopped taking it a few days ago. I’m a little sad that I’m still experiencing this level of pain, as I thought I was on the mend... anyone else still have pain??

I'm 6 months out today! My highest weight was 357. On the day of surgery it was 317. Today it's 227. At surgery I wore a size 26-28; today it's 18-20.
    AND everyone is different!!

I asked myself that same question today. My surgery was on the 15th too. It hurts when anything passes thru and I'm ready for it to stop. I think once all the pain ends I will be happy I did it.. but for now. I'm not sure either

Ahhh we are a lot alike! My surgery is the 24th, I’m hoping to go back to work (seated office) on Monday after surgery. I’m also a social wine and beer drinker and am planning for a big change in that habit!

I’m telling my boss that I’m having stomach surgery - only my husband, kids and a few friends know “the truth.”

    Hi Engelyn,

I understand your fears. I have some of the same especially around alcohol restriction and people knowing. I'm taking this as an opportunity to stop alcohol consumption for good as I know it's one of the main things that gets me to put on weight and I'm better off without it. Once I start socializing again, I'll be drinking Water with lemon and graduating to sparkling water with lemon. I've bought different types of citrus essential oils and 1 drop in 1 glass water makes it taste great.

I've only told my very best friends that I'm getting a sleeve. Everyone else I've told I'm being operated for a hiatial hernia and that the doctor is putting me on a liquid only diet afterwards (true!) Graduating to smoothies and finally after 1 month, easy solids (true!). I say that I'll most likely lose some weight and that this is an added bonus! So, when people see me eating less and losing they won't be surprised. Then I'll just say that I'm taking the opportunity to continue eating well and losing (true!).

As for social life afterwards, I'll still be going out but eating less and mainly Proteins and drinking water. The main thing is being out with friends and socializing, enjoying their company. People don't really notice what you drink as long as you have a glass in front of you. I'll also be meeting people more for coffee and teas.

I hope my thoughts help you in some way.

I've been ghosting, this is my first post. I am scheduled for January 11, one week! I am very nervous, especially when I read stories of complications. Pre-op diet going good since the 26th, except for some champagne and bad Snacks at a party on NYE... But still already down 11lbs during pre-op. My diet right now is Protein Shakes for breakfast and lunch and a small Protein forward dinner w/ veggies. Been having Oikos triple zero and sugar free Jello for snacks when I get home from work as well.
I am a bundle of worries and fears, these being the biggest ones:
    - Complication from surgery
    - Alcohol and carbonation restriction (I am [hopefully "was"] a daily drinker, diet cokes during the day and wine and beer at night)
    - Regaining weight after losing a lot (I regained weight after being on Medi Weight Loss and losing 100 lbs 5 years ago)
    - Returning to work quickly (I run a business and cannot afford not to be back)
    - The diet ruining my active social life which revolves around friends and going out for drinks/food.
    - People finding out about my surgery and thinking that is was the "easy way out". I have only told my SO and my BFF.

There are other smaller fears but it felt good to write those out!

I think that whether to tell or not is a very personal decision with no wrong or right answer. You should do what you are comfortable with.
When I first started seriously considering WLS, I didn't want anyone to know. I had one friend who was also interested in doing it, and we decided to be each others support and keep it to ourselves. I was embarrassed about it in the beginning. Five years ago I had lost 90 lbs by doing Weight Watchers, doing cross fit and running mud races, but over the past couple years after a back injury I have put 50 lbs back on. I felt like a failure, and I was very hard on myself about it. It was like admitting defeat, which doesn't come easy for me.
Now, as I have worked through this journey, I have become more educated about obesity and more comfortable with my choice. Once I made the decision on what surgery I wanted and completed the pre-op requirements it became more real for me and I started telling some people I'm close with. For the most part the responses were positive, my mom is the only one who is driving me crazy about it, lol. I wasn't going to tell her until it was done, but she found out I had an EGD and wanted to know why, so I wasn't going to lie about it.
Now that it's getting closer to approval (I hope!) I'm telling more people, I don't have the same reservations about discussing it. I've told my co-workers and a few other friends and family.
Do what you feel is best for you. Your feelings might change as you progress on your journey, or maybe not, but you will know whether it is right for you to tell others. Best wishes on your journey!

I had the sleeve surgery 5/29/16. I am a very social person and very open. I was open with my friends and some of my family and some coworkers about the process I was going through and that I would be having the surgery. Since starting this process I have lost 250 pounds. That is a pretty noticeable difference!

In my experience people are curious how you've achieved such great results and when they ask I just tell then I had weight loss surgery and I just watch what I eat and exercise. Most of the time they just accept that answer and say okay! Some people ask how it was and I tell them that I had issues in the beginning but it has saved my life. I tell them about my small portions and the focus on Protein.

Ultimately it's up to you how much you share. You owe them nothing. If they ask you how you are doing it just tell them you are eating healthier and trying to be active...WHICH IS TRUE. You don't need to divulge your whole story.

For myself I tell anyone and everyone. I'm EXTREMELY proud of my weight loss. For example, I was just at the lab to get bloodwork and was so excited to fit in the chair with the arm down I couldn't contain my story and told her how I used to not be able to put the arm down and I had lost 250 pounds. That's me though. I'm very open about my experiences and I like people to know how hard I've worked. When I am able to fit somewhere I couldn't before or do something I couldn't I am SOOO surprised still. My mentality is still in the 540 pound woman who can hardly walk and can't fit most places. I think part of me telling people is that I'm still overweight and want people to know I am working on it and have already come a long way and won't be like this forever. That is my own insecurity though.

In conclusion...just do what you want. Share what your feel comfortable sharing. You will be surprised at how little people judge you for it. At least that has been the case in my experiences.

If you are constantly getting some type of Protein in, and Fiber as well, you should not experience hunger. I made sure that every 2 hours or so, I was eating or drinking something. I never got hungry. Before cooking meals, I had a Protein Shake. I then would not be hungry when dinner or breakfast (on weekends) was ready.
I did a 2 week liquid diet even though I only had to do 1 week. I lost 25 pounds during this time, because I was determined to make it work. My advice would be to get your mind right. This is for you, and there is a light at the end of the tunnel. You've just got to look for it. We've tried and failed at every diet we've ever tried our entire lives. This tool is worth the trouble and hardships, because it tips the balance in our favor.
It may sound crazy, but self-talk works wonders. Everyday, wake up and look into the mirror. Tell yourself that you are beautiful...That you will work hard to achieve your goals that day.....That you are worth happiness.....That you are going to SUCCEED!
It will happen for you. Good luck on your journey!!

I had to lose 10% before I was approved for surgery. I cut back to 1200 cals and "ate like I had surgery." Meaning I ate Protein first, chew a lot, started working out, cut back on carbs, completely cut out soda caffine junk food alcohol, etc. My cravings are gone and I am used to eating this way so I feel like transitioning after surgery will be so much easier. I have lost 40lbs and I'm still 2-3months out before I get surgery and still losing. Going to be well below the weight needed for surgery but I feel super prepared.
