  1. I was on Nuvaring at the time of my surgery. I started bleeding March 6th. Surgery on march 30. Didn't stop bleeding until April 13th. Spotted for a while and got mirena on April 21. Spot stopped. It's June 1st and I haven't had a period yet. Not sure I'm I'm happy or sad about that...
  2. You look amazing [emoji173]️[emoji173]️[emoji173]️
  3. I had my 6 week post op appointment yesterday morning. Once I got the all-clear to advance, I tried eating ground beef for dinner. No good. My plan is to stick to what works for me and slowly introduce certain foods into my diet. I've never been more excited to eat salad today. We shall see how it goes!
  4. Sleeved on march 30th. Had my gall bladder removed and hernia repaired. Haven't had any heartburn at all. I wanted to wait to get my gall bladder removed but thank goodness my surgeon talked some sense into me to get it removed At the same time
  5. They have them at single in single bottle form for about $3.99. Sometimes they'll be on sale. I've tried Alpine Punch and I couldn't finish it. To me, it has a really weird, bitter aftertaste that made my mouth feel chalky. I'd suggest going and getting a single bottle and seeing if you like it!
  6. You look amazing. I am so happy for you! I'm 4 weeks out and I can't wait until I see results like this!!
  7. I'm 3 1/2 weeks out from my surgery and I find that I'm having trouble getting all of my required water in. For those of you who are super successful in drinking 64oz or more of water per day, I'd love if you shared your schedule of how you manage drinking all of that damn water! Lol I just started soft foods so it's making it harder for me, time wise, to consume enough water now that I have to incorporate the 30mins before/after food rule. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    FIRST SOFT FOOD!

Loved eggs before surgery. Now I can't tolerate them in any form. [emoji30][emoji30][emoji30]

    Birth Control

Before surgery I was on the Nuvaring. I was sleeved on 3/30. I just switched and got the Mirena on 4/21. Mostly because I know that with rapid weight loss, I'll become more fertile and I wanted to ensure that I won't get pregnant anytime soon. I'm good to go for the next 6 years! Also, lists of times with the Mirena, cycles lessen or stop completely. Looking forward to that!
  10. Sleeved on 3/30. With two week pre-op and post op loss, Im at a 43lbs loss. Protein is no problem for me not getting in 64oz of water is my issue. I never get that much in a day and my skin shows it. It's so dry [emoji853][emoji853] I can't tolerate eggs which sucks because it's a big part of the soft food stay I'm on now. Just started my soft food stay on 4/20 and I'll be on it for 6 weeks. Learning to eat slow and listen to my body. Ready for the 30th to come so I'll be able to go back to the gym! I wouldn't trade this decision in for the world. I'm 28 and able to live my life again! [emoji4]
  11. I can't wait until I'm a pro! Right now I'm all over the place. I get more than enough protein just not enough water. I do eat SF pops and that counts toward fluids but still doesn't get me close to my 64oz goal. I would literally Jane to sip all day [emoji853]

    Meds ?

Crushing pills is such a headache for me. I found most of my pills in chewable, luckily. I can't take solid pills until May 30th. The taste of crushed pills make me gag. However, I find it's not so terrible when put in yogurt or pudding. Good luck!
  14. I was supposed to stay one night and be released the next day. However, I opted to stay an extra night due to how horrible I felt due to my gas pains.

    Bridesmaid dress...

I was in the same situation. I'm a bridesmaid in a wedding in May. I was sleeved on March 30th. I couldn't purchase my dress any later than the end of January. I ended up buying it a size smaller than my normal size. My dress can be taken in up to 4 sizes, so I have room for alterations. I'm going to have to get it taken in at least one size before wedding day on May 6th

  17. I didn't have to have a urinary catheter and I was on mine. But I have read some women needed one. It's always really interesting to see how differently each person is prepped for the same procedure.

    How much time?

I had my sleeve done on a long weekend (had it done on a Thursday, and was off that Friday for a county holiday) and I thought I'd be good to go by Monday to return to work. I was wrong. Those gas pains and having literally 0% energy cause me to not be able to go back to work until the following Thursday. So I was out for a week. And Im glad I was. That week was really necessary for me.
  19. I was on mine when I was sleeved. When you're getting dressed during pre-op prep, just tell the nurse and I'm certain she will get you pads and disposable underwear. I was told I had to remove my tampon and use pads. Will say, those disposable undies were comfy! Lol [emoji4][emoji4]
  20. I stuck with the hospital gown while I was there. With the IV fluids pumping in me, I was constantly peeing. Easy access. My gown was large enough to wrap completely around me and tie up in the front.

    10 Days out

I was fine after day 6, when my gas pains went away. I'd walk until I was tired and that varied. But I realized that the more I walked one day, the more I could walk the next day. I'm 15 days post op but at 10 days, I think o would have been good for a 3-4 mile walk in a day. Just be sure to bring liquids with you and take breaks if you need to! I know I sure did. Best of luck!! You'll be fine [emoji4][emoji4]

    African American vsgers!

Thanks for that info!! I'll be two weeks post op tomorrow and while I'm a ways from completely healing, I was curious about how my incisions will heal. I have 5 and they are all pretty small besides the one in/above my belly button. There's still glue on my incisions but as soon as that falls off, I plan to use vitamin E oil on them. In terms of my hair, I'm natural and have ALOT of curly, thick hair. I'm pretty afraid of all of the talk I hear about losing hair but I'm hoping if I keep up with my water, protein and vitamins, I won't have to deal with that particular side effect. Thanks, again!

    Inova Fair Oaks Hospital

Hi! I was just sleeved at Inova on March 30th by Dr. Nain. Almost two weeks out and 24lbs lost, I'm feeling great. After you participate in the webinar, your next step will be to schedule an in person consult with one of the surgeons. It will most likely be the surgeon who presented during the webinar. During the consult, the surgeon will ask about what brought you there, history of your weight and talk about the different type of surgeries. Then you'll meet with the coordinator so she can discuss with you all of the requirements for your insurance. My insurance required 6 months of classes with Inova Bariatric. From there, Ashley (receptionist) will beginning scheduling your required classes for however long your duration is. On top of the classes, you'll have to see the Exercise guy, Nick, who will discuss pre and post-op exercise plans. Also you'll have to take the psych evaluation which was pretty easy. You'll speak to someone in person. Also, you'll be required to complete a questionnaire online and submit it. The required classes are once a month and go by fairly quickly. During this time, you can begin fulfilling your pre-op testing required by your insurance and the surgeon's office. In terms of how I picked the sleeve over bypass, I did not have a ton of weight to loss and I the malnutrition and dumping that happens with the bypass is something I wanted no parts of! I'm 28 and have slowly but steadily been losing weight and I love it! I'm 50lbs away from my person weight goal.

    African American vsgers!

Happy to see there's a thread for African American VSGers, as I've got questions about hair loss and incision healing and scarring!!
  25. I had my sleeve surgery on March 30th and I had my gall bladder removed during the procedure. I'm almost 2 weeks post op and I haven't had any additional problems. I believe I'm healing as normal. My gallstones were found during my pre-op ultrasound. Although they weren't giving me a ton of pain, surgeon said the pain will likely get worse after sleeve. Decided to have it removed and I feel fine! Best of luck.
