Gallstones found during pre op testing

Recommended Posts

My doctor told me that they found gallstones during my pre op testing. I've never had any problems (that I am aware of anyway) with my gallbladder. They told me that they would decide during surgery if they should remove my gallbladder. Has anyone else had their gallbladder removed during their sleeve surgery? If so, were there any additional problems post op?

I was in the same situation. My surgeon removed my gallbladder during my Gastric Bypass. I didn't have any additional issues post-op except for a change in stool color which I believe is a result of having no gallbladder.

I'd hope they do take it during surgery. I've read about people needing it removed after surgery anyway. Count your blessings you've never experienced a gall bladder attack! So painful! I had mine out last September! Good riddance [emoji23]

I had my sleeve surgery on March 30th and I had my gall bladder removed during the procedure. I'm almost 2 weeks post op and I haven't had any additional problems. I believe I'm healing as normal. My gallstones were found during my pre-op ultrasound. Although they weren't giving me a ton of pain, surgeon said the pain will likely get worse after sleeve. Decided to have it removed and I feel fine! Best of luck.

My doc took mine out during my procedure. He said after major weightloss lots of people have issues and need it eemoved anyways. I would push for removal. If you have gallstones, you have an insurance case to cover it.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I'm definitely thinking if they have me in there already opened up, why not just take it out. I have also heard that people do have issues after weight loss so sure don't want to end up back for surgery again so will for sure be pushing to take that lil' guy out!

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
