Sooo glad to hear. I had a appointment with a pulmonologist from HF and told him of my plan of surgery and he said, "dr. GANAW AND CARLIN are the best in the country, and said that these guys write the protocol for the surgery, and I would be in great hands". Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

I really got sick of Protein Shakes and bars fast, but discovered a wafer type "protein crunch", they taste good! There is more fat than most, but I will eat them...

I had a three week stall right at four weeks out, like you. I even gained five pounds! I honestly started losing once I started eating a little bit more. I'm about 4 months out and I'm having a stall too. Really is interesting how we can have such a large caloric deficit but not lose weight every week. This will pass! We just need to keep on doing the right things.

Haha. Thanks. They're part of a family pajama set. My wife is a Disney fanatic so she keeps trying to put me Disney related clothing (hence the toy story shirt). My pajama pants are grey with black stripes and hers are grey with red stripes. Our daughter's are grey with one leg of red stripes and the other leg with black stripes.

    Thank you, AZBlackhawk.

Whoops. GW is 174. Too long referring to my weight as in the 200's or 300's that the 100's sound completely foreign to me.

Wellbutrin is AWFUL. I go through the gagging and almost throwing up routine in the am and pm. I know I can't go back to my small extended release pills which would be easy to swallow. I'm not sure if I can take the regular ones yet without crushing them. It's horrible though.

Everyone is shocked when the scale first jumps up by a pound or three. It's a normal part of the weight loss adventure. It is not fat weight. And there is nothing you have done wrong or could do to prevent it.
Watching the scale for me is like watching the ball in a basketball game (except each basket scored is a pound lost)... there is a lot more dribbling and passing that occurs than successful baskets! (And that breathless pause as the ball circles the rim is spot on too!)

you might be entering the infamous "three-week stall", and your weight might be up slightly because of Water retention or full intestines. Just stick to your plan - it'll pass and you'll be on your way to losing again!

I can go up or down by 4 pounds from one day to the next. If you can't sometimes ignore the crazy fluctuations, don't weigh daily - it was the best advice I was given. Then I realized that I can't let the scale determine my success. Sometimes, inches go away when pounds don't seem to. Don't sweat it unless that two pounds stays around for more than a week.

Your weight will fluctuate during the day. My clothes can even add 5 pounds to my total. So just keep following the program guidelines and you will do well.
Some times individuals will stress about their daily weight readings. Stressing can sometimes add weight. So many individuals restrict themselves to checking their weight once per week or once per month.

I'm in the same boat as you! And 3 weeks post op to the day and weigh 2 pounds more than I did a few days ago. We have to remember that gains at this stage are most likely hormonal/water weight. It's highly unlikely that we're consuming enough calories to gain fat (1 pound of fat=3500 Calories).

If you're easily anxious like me and also following a low carb diet, you could choose to buy some ketone strips. A bottle of them is inexpensive. You just pee on one and it'll tell you if your body is releasing ketones or not (ketones are one sign that your body has turned to burning fat for energy)

    Good luck!

Today I am 2 months + 1day past my operation. I am down 55 lbs. But this journey is more than just the weight loss. This journey is about rediscovering myself. For the last 9yrs I have hid myself in the roles of being a wife and a mother. The heavier I got, the less I did. I became a bystander to my life. And worse, to my kids life.
This surgery has given me my courage back. My confidence. My sense of a adventure.
The day I had my surgery I started walking and have not stopped. Today I walked my 1st 5k. And I signed up for 2 more this summer. I cannot believe I am a 5k'er.
I went in to this surgery thinking I would lose weight and get healthier. I never considered I would find myself along the way!

I agree with everyone else here. There are still options for you to eat especially at a BBQ when you can bring items that you're able to eat. I did this before surgery when I was on diets, I would bring chicken sausages to put on the grill or bring a salad.
Also my NUT said no alcohol for at least one year after surgery. I don't drink often so it's not a huge deal for me.
Hope you find the things that work for you and enjoy your family cookouts!

    BBQ arent even an issue.
    Grill shrimp, Salmon
You can eat burgers and hot dogs
Get a broccoli salad from the deli instead of potato salad.
    Just don't drink. Drink Water

I really isn't hard you just have to take a hard line on it. If people try and push stuff on you just ask them if they love you enough to let you be great and lose the weight you want.

My family has a beach family gather every summer in Clearwater FL. I've already told them, Salmon and chicken Breasts for me please, nothing else. Stick with what's right for you. I've told everyone I've given up drinking because of health reason, which in a sense is partially true.

Straws are one of those surgeon specific things. The idea is you will swallow air while using one... which isn't good for the pouch.
Personally I believe there are two ways of using a straw.
One just brings the liquid to the mouth, but it sits in the mouth, touches the teeth, and can get rid of the air.
The other just sucks it pretty much right down the throat, bypassing the teeth, etc.
Ultimately, just like everything else, depends on how you use it!

Maybe if we knew what you trashed, it would be easier to respond. I didn't throw out much because we have fresh fruit and veg in the house, meats, etc. We were never a big junk food house. All food is healthy, so long as it is not processed. My day would come to a standstill without Protein Shakes, Oikos Triple Zero yogurt, apples, Peanut Butter, eggs, cheese, salad ingredients, fresh vegetables and meat. Sometimes I'll have a few Wheat Thins. Damascus Whole Wheat wraps (110 calories 11 g protein) deli turkey, ham or roast beef. Hummus to dip carrots in.
sugar free pudding and Jello. Halo Top Ice Cream. Torani sugar-free coffee syrups for use in shakes. Two or three types of Protein Powder, frozen fruit for shakes and PB2.
Coconut milk (unsweetened) or Fairlife Skim or 2% milk.
    Vitamin Water Zero.

3boysmama reacted to OutsideMatchInside in Adding protein to veggie dishes without the bulk?
I eat my veggies as their own separate meal. They are usually my afternoon or after dinner "snack". I don't eat veggies with my meat because if I do either they take up too much space, or they make my dense Protein not as dense and I am not full for as long.
I think an unflavored protein powder could work with a stir fry but you could have to be really careful with the temp so it doesn't clump or curdle.
One of the reasons I enjoy eating them alone is because I can eat them in a large quantity.
