Can't lose weight!
I would recommend switching over from all the shakes and bars to real food. Eggs and meat, veggies, and a little fruit. Make sure you are eating at least 1000-1200cals.

Nausea from Protein shakes
Hold onto the shakes because tastes change after surgery, and you might tolerate it then. I'm using Quest powdered peanut butter flavored, mixed with water, it's pretty good.

Prepping for 10K and knee pain
This is one of those big picture examination times. Running is not causing weight loss. It is helping your cardio vascular fitness, but walking the same distance will do as much or more for weight loss. Injury at this stage can lay you up for weeks or months, and you won't reach your goal. Consider this your body's way of warning you against running for now. Swimming is good cardio, as are elliptical machines. Look for low impact activities while waiting for the weight to come off. Walk, walk, walk. After you have dropped another 50-60lbs, start jogging a bit and see how it goes. Congrats on the weight loss! You are doing great!

Headaches during pre-op liquid diet?
The preop has me super thirsty. I guess I should count how much I drink, but it is at least 2 quarts on top of shakes. I have felt sick a few times, and it was always because I needed more water.

Physiological Changes After WLS
I read that article a couple months ago, but got more out of it this time. Thank you! Leaves me wondering what my projected weight would be according to the database! Lol.

Help!
Are you still in the hospital or home? Keep trying to drink.. a sip every 5 minutes. If you can't get down 40oz today, be sure to let your doctor know. [Hugs] You sound miserable

What are you eating 3wk postop?
The mild sauce may be too much the first few weeks. You don't want to take a chance upsetting the sleeve. Think bland and soothing! Sugar is a gateway drug (for me anyway). Might want to stick with stevia.

Question.
Perhaps put the situation in a letter to the surgeon. Lay out what your weight was before starting your low carb diet, your carb, protein, fat, and caloric consumption. Then describe the nut's plan. Explain you are willing to try the new plan, but are concerned about potential weight gain on that plan, and the willingness of the surgeon to perform the surgery if you have gained weight.

Day 2 Post Op - What to drink and when? Advice please.
Homemade broth has a decent amount of protein.

Not having Bowel Movements everyday after sleeve surgery!
Fainting after using Colace is considered a severe reaction, and one should seek medical treatment if experiencing this effect. Please be sure to tell your doctor.

Not sure where to start. I have gastroparesis.
I have seen two other people on here that have needed total gastrectomies. The one either hadn't had it yet, or just got it. The other was a while ago, and he did really well. A stomach cancer board will have more people with the experience too. [Hugs] what a long road but hopefully things will be much better for you!

Dark stool
I sometimes do during the preop portion. I figure it is bile or vitamins or something. Feel free to ask your doc!

I'm so new
Well, it sounds like your father is on board. Your boyfriend has no clue what it is to live with a broken metabolism. (Even if he has one himself!). If you want to try one last type of diet while researching the surgery and starting the process, you can try a ketogenic diet. (Lots of proteins and fats, and less than 20g net carbs). It usually takes at least 6 months to go from the thinking about phase to surgery, so you can try the diet while doing the process. If the diet works, you can always cancel the surgery. But if it doesn't, then you'll be glad you did both at the same time. Google "Diet Doctor" and ketogenic Good luck!

Pre-Op diet...how much did u
I only had to do a 2 week liquid diet. I decided to start about 2 weeks early, to get the hang of it. I lost a pound a day for the first 10 days. After that, the weight loss has slowed dramatically, the hunger, thirst, and cravings are real! I am down to losing a pound every 3-4 days. I tell you this because this severely restricted diet is absolutely not feasible long term. Even if it were continued, the weight loss would cease. I am soo ready to just get on with it! Surgery in 5 more days!

Have you lost any friends over wls?
What friends? Lol!

Telling Friends and Family about surgery
The people that live in my house with me need to know because while I'm recovering, they have to pick up my slack. It also will help having them watch out for me if I get sick. Anyone that lives outside the house is on a need to know basis. I definitely won't tell them before the procedure, and I'll play it by ear after. I don't work, so don't have that dynamic.

Seeing WLS patients everywhere?
It's so funny how different bariatric surgery is from other types. A broken leg's cast invites inquiries and others' tales of skiing accidents. An appendix removal doesn't have lasting repercussions. But bariatric surgery seems to be very different. There is no external wound, but the lifestyle change is permanent... creating the potential need for continuing conversations. It's no wonder this journey can be so confusing.

Changes and Shape
It's probably just loose skin that makes you think you are bigger. Teenage girl muscle doesn't take up much room, unless you were a body builder!

Diet coke
I think the presumption is McDonalds puts a lot of preservatives or other chemicals in the food, and the "proof" is what happens by leaving it out. Now I am not privy to the recipes used by that restaurant chain, so couldn't say whether there is anything unusual in their ingredient list. And simply leaving it out doesn't prove anything either. (Bacteria and fungi don't tend to grow on dessicated substrates). But, it is important we each EVALUATE our food choices, and then eat the choices that are right for us. A lot of times our choices aren't actually actively chosen. We eat what is easy, quick, tastes good, or habit, without really thinking about it. The problem (for me) with McDonalds hamburgers is this: I am trying to evaluate whether I should include this food in my diet. I do not know what is in it. Therefore I truly have no way of knowing whether that food should fit into my diet. Conclusion: I should not eat it, or it should be consumed rarely. Pretty much every processed food has this delimma. Many ingredients in prepackaged foods were created in labs. How is the average person to know whether the added chemicals are good, bad, or indifferent? I'm not here to say whether Diet Coke is the right choice for the individual bariatric patient. I'm here to point out that many times we don't know what we don't know... and as long as consuming an unknown is acceptable, then so be it. The unknowns are rampant. We just have to choose the right ones for us. Something as simple as carbonation and stretching... I don't KNOW... but the right choice for me, at this time, with my current information, will be to avoid carbonated beverages.

Question for lifters: How are you increasing your caloric intake?
This is a good question for a nutritionist, more-so than your surgeon. Something to try: 5 meals a day, each meal containing: 20-30g of protein (400-600 cals) 30g carbohydrate (600cal) 10g-20g fat (450-900cals) This would get you to 1450-2100cals. Compared to this, how much are you eating now?

If you could talk to your younger self, what piece of advice would you give related to weight or surgery?
I would tell myself to get the surgery as soon as possible so my own children could benefit from the changed food environment in the home. (As it is, my oldest is almost out of the house, and she needs the knowledge more than anyone)

HFLC eating plan
Before I started my preop diet a few weeks ago, I never had gallbladder type pain. I always ate lots of fat. Ever since starting this low fat, low carb preop diet, I have been having twinges in the gallbladder area. I am having an ultrasound done in 3 days to see what is going on. I am interested in going LCHF after surgery, so want to keep my gallbladder if possible. How soon after surgery could I start LCHF? Anyone know where to find a meal plan? Of course most of these postop meal plans are low fat.

Seeing WLS patients everywhere?
When I was pregnant, I became hyper aware of all the pregnant people around. One day, no preggos.. the next, boom! Now that I'm about to go under the knife, I start thinking about all the people I have seen that have lost a ton of weight, and I wonder whether they had some help [emoji6] And, recently, an aquaintance mentioned she had a small stomach. Before, I would have thought it was some kind of birth defect. Now I know better! Lol.

Rectal Intussusception/Pelvic Floor Prolapse
Ok, did a quick investigation, and since your condition is considered mild, the surgeons may feel the risk/reward isn't there. Another group you could talk to are gynecologists. They may help, especially with the pelvic floor issues. Have you used osmotic laxatives? (Like Miralax)
