  1. My goal is to lose the Oxford English dictionary, but so far I've lost the cheese.... Lol.
  2. Average weight loss for females is about 15lbs the first month, 10lbs a month for the next 5, and tapering down from there. You are doing great!
  3. No worries, she'll show up soon. Yes, she was sleeved, but is doing fabulously!
  4. This was confusing to me as well, but my nut provided weight guidelines, and I'm finding using a scale is quite simple and accurate. I'm still in purees, so I have a little bowl, zero out the bowl, put the food in it, then heat if necessary.
  5. Okios tastes good, but sends me to the toilet. Tastes are such an individual thing. I recommend spending 15 minutes in the yogurt section comparing brands. Those that say they contain live and active cultures will help with gut health. Maybe grab a handful of different small containers to do a taste test...
  6. I had insurance that would cover it, but there were too many hoops. I chose to self pay in Mexico. Had I not had the ability to afford Mexico, I would have gone through the hoops, probably. Would have delayed the surgery by a year. As it was, I just had a two week diet, and chose my date.
  7. I never had a psych eval. But depending on what the definition of binge eating is, I probably did it every meal preop. I never was abused either. I liked to feel full.
  8. Honestly, it would be cheaper to make a preop trip to Tijuana to "check things out", and use Dr. Illan, then to go anywhere in the US. If he still didn't want Mexico, at least you get a vacation out of it!
  9. I was sleeved on a Monday. Wednesday, I walked a mile. Thursday I was on my feet for most of 8 hours. Friday had my flight home, 3 hours at the airport, 5 hours on the plane. Went shopping at Walmart for 45 minutes after getting off the plane.
  10. Cottage cheese, greek yogurt, nuts and beans, pureed or chopped meatloaf, chicken pot pie type filling, tuna or chicken salad, eggs, soft cheeses, baked or boiled fish
  11. I'm 3 weeks post op, and all I can think of is getting in my food and fluids. It's a full time job! I think it will be a relief when things become more normal with meals. I think we all imagine food will not exist after surgery, but it couldn't be further from the truth. I find since I'm not hungry, I can take the time to cook a nice meal for the kids. I'm not stuffed, so it doesn't sicken me to have to cook for my son an hour after we ate (he has unusual dietary needs). In other words, I feel normal now in a way that I couldn't have anticipated... and I didn't realize how abnormal things were before!
  12. Yeah, so I've lived off of milk and home made broth. Tomorrow I start purees in earnest, and that will go much better! I've been lucky to not be sick, probably because I didn't push all those fake things. Oh, and Siggies drinkable yogurt or kieffer is da bomb.
  13. Yes! You can't target fat loss, but you can target muscle building. When you go to a gym, the machines frequently show the muscle groups worked on that machine.
  14. I'm almost 3 weeks out. I've been using enemas every couple days. I like enemas for their immediate results. I simply plan to stay on the toilet for 20 minutes, and I'm good to go! Last night I drank smooth move tea at bedtime. Woke up at 5am and had to stay near the toilet for two hours. Uncomfortable cramps! Had good results, but am looking forward to adding fiber (my plan recommends fiber after 3 weeks). My favorite fiber supplement turns thick in the cup like oatmeal.. so have to wait until oatmeal is allowed.
  15. I want to join! Starting (current) weight: 276lbs Goal: 249lbs
  16. Generally hair loss lasts from 3-9 months, and starts regrowing at about a year. YMMV. Can be anything from evenly thinning to bald patches.
  17. I did see a youtube video of a DS patient (several years post op) that was hospitalized with malnutrition. I assume she hadn't kept up with her bloodwork and/or supplements. The malabsorption component of bypasses and DSs can pose significant risks long term. Lifetime follow-up is paramount!
  18. I just got my sleeve almost 3 weeks ago. There was a 16 year old at the hospital at the same time as me that got the bypass. I don't know her story, but her recovery looked a bit harder than mine. I think the sleeve (in general) is the better option for young people. I also have a 16 year old daughter, and if she gets to the position of needing surgery, I'll recommend the sleeve for her as well. Something you may not have thought about, but when you get to the point where sex is a possibility, look into getting Nexplanon (arm implant). You are going to need all your nutrition for you for the next bunch of years. Surgery can be scary! But so is diabetes and all the other complications from obesity. You are going to do great!
  19. You just have to ask your surgeon's office about this. Each practice probably has different wait times, etc.
  20. I watched several before surgery. Was very enlightening! I love how sophisticated the tools are!
  21. Ouch! How far out are you?
  22. Just imagine your stomach splitting open, or getting a massive infection. That should help with the motivation...
  23. Yes, it is normal... but! You have to keep on top of your fluids. You also need to walk. Set alarms to keep waking you up to do those things during the day. At night you can sleep undisturbed.
  24. Nope, not normal. Be sure to get checked out. Good luck!
