What to bring with me to Mexio?
I just went to Mexico on the 20th. Dr. Illan. I thought I would just be lounging around the hotel room for 2 days after surgery. How wrong I was! The valet had us out walking (optional) both days. I was out for 5 hours the first day, and 8 hours the second. I brought too many pjs and not enough real clothes. The real clothes should have a stretchy waist, as your abdomen will be swollen. Good walking shoes are a must. I did notice the virgin sleeves had the easiest recovery. Bypasses and revisions are harder. Don't know what it is like with other surgeons...

Travel after sleeve surgery
I flew home 5 hour flight 4 days after surgery. I recommend medical grade compression socks for the flight.

I'm also 10 days out, and a couple days ago, jello hurt my stomach! Can't imagine solid food. Protein shake was too harsh today Good old broth! Love that stuff..

6 weeks post op ( feeling weak)
You need more water. Double or more what you are now getting. As for the antibiotics, what kind are they? Some types can be pretty harsh.

Then and now pics!
Awesome job!

Eating 6 ounces of protein post op 8 weeks
What type of protein are you eating? In general you only need 3-4 oz of protein per meal. Nonstarchy veggies should be present too.

Post-opt symptoms-fever/hot flashes
Glad he's getting great treatment! Good luck in a speedy recovery!

Type of food
Hold off on the noodles. They will work your stomach too hard for this time. A couple months of letting your tummy heal will pay dividends! Even when you get refried beans, they need to be very runny.

Abnormal lab results
I'd be surprised if any of that delays surgery. They might put you on an iron supplement before hand.

1 month post op wake up choking & coughing
Sometimes the nose will run out the front, sometimes down the back of the throat. I've been having problems with sinus drainage too. Figure it is allergies.

14 days post op 6 wks Pregnant
You need to speak to some drs about all the meds that were administered during and after surgery as they would affect a fetus. This is one pregnancy you may need to consider letting go... time is of the essence, so start making those calls today. Good luck in whatever you decide.

Pain
I would contact the surgeon about it. In general, things should be better, not worse, especially without a specific strain or something. Let us know what they say...

Picked up 1yr old son 1week post op
Generally it is 10lbs. Definitely ask your surgeon.

My personal VSG journey take 2
Dude.. harsh! Lol. Guess guys get crazy hormones too! As for the standing up dizziness.. it's called orthostatic hypotension. Very hard to catch on a blood pressure machine. Make sure you are drinking enough, and getting enough salt. Compression legwear can help, but it needs to be professionally fitted, medical grade.

I might be crazy. I went skiing 2.5 weeks post op.
What? I'm getting surgery today, and you guys think I have to cancel my white-water rafting trip next week? Y'all nuts! (Just kidding!... today IS the day though!)

How do you measure/weigh
There is a website: twofoods.com You can search and compare foods' nutrient contents. Tuna has roughly 1.5 times the protein, by weight, as turkey lunch meat. This means to get the same nutrition, you have to eat more turkey. Since the volume is a problem, that is why we talk about choosing nutrient dense foods. Turkey lunch meat has about 17g of protein in a 3.5 ounce serving. If that was your source of protein for the day, you would need 3.5 meals of just turkey to meet your minimum protein requirement. Tuna has 25g in 3.5 ounces, which means you would meet the requirement in 2.5 meals... leaving some room in your day for something else! But, from these examples, you can see why cereal has to be reserved for a last meal when your protein requirement has already been met for the day. (If you choose to eat it at all).

Need To Lose 50Lbs Too Have Surgery
First off, congrats on deciding to make a change in your life! I would recommend a low carbohydrate diet. Most of us have problems with carbs, and by drastically reducing them, it helps with cravings. You can start off with 50-75 grams per day. If you see the weight loss stalling, you can cut more (Net carbs). Look for low carb books and recipes to get ideas. Eat real food (lots of nonstarchy veggies) Don't drink your calories Eat 3 meals and a snack or two. Spread the carbs out over the day. Good luck!

Pre-Op Liquid Diet
I've bounced back and forth between watery stool and constipation. I wouldn't recommend taking anything because about the time you do, your body will have adjusted (maybe). Then you'll have other problems. There might be something you are consuming that isn't agreeable. I was allowed Okios triple zero yogurt. Something in that caused me trouble.

Can't lose weight!
Dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets are the best! Much tastier than the old, boring, rectangular ones. [emoji6] For real food recipe ideas.. check out the blog by Eggface. It is called "The World According to Eggface". Good stuff...

How is this even possible?
This question is in line with, "I go to bed weighing 167lbs. I wake up weighing 164lbs. I didn't pee 3 pints! Where did the weight go?" The body does some wacky things. My guess is that you need to take a break day every so often, or play around with getting more calories. Once you get into a routine, the body has your number. Keep it guessing! Good luck!

Portion Size
You will follow your surgeon's guidelines the first couple months. After that, you will be experimenting with foods, but essentially will work up to 3 oz of protein and 1/2 cup combined of veg, fruits, and starches. After maybe a year or two you might have a slice of regular pizza.

Can't lose weight!
Don't count tuna or chicken salad as protein just because there is added fat? That's nuts. Count it as protein and fat. Best if you make it yourself so you can measure the ingredients.
