KDBaker got a reaction from EsojLabina in No weight loss pre-op
In my program (MGH in Boston), the pre-op period was less about weight loss and more about building healthy habits. They told me to focus on Protein and Fiber with every meal and snack, make sure I didn't go more than 5 hours without eating, and sip on Water all day long. I'll say it was very helpful to me. And once I filled up on the protein and fiber, a lot of the foods I thought I was going to miss just weren't an issue. Until the 2 week pre-op liver shrinking diet started. Then everyone looked like a walking breadstick or slice of pizza to me.

I'm sorry to hear this. Bariatric surgery is so life-changing that it can uncover relationship issues that were previously unrecognized. Would he be willing to do a counseling session to explore why he feels the way he does? Talking it through might help.

Hate to say it but his insecurity is what is driving this. He is afraid that if you lose to much weight you will not want him around any more. He is insecure about himself and is pushing that off on you to halt your success. The best thing you can do is talk to him and educate him. You are going to look a little old and sickly at first when you drop a bunch of weight, but you will start to tighten up and look better over time in the face etc.
Don't let his insecurity drive you to abandon your weight loss. He can either get with the program you are on or you can surely find someone else. Have confidence in yourself. Your health is more important than staying overweight to please him. He will come around, but if he doesn't you will be better off without him. Others will come along that appreciate your efforts and you will live longer for your efforts.

I'm a little over 3 years out from the sleeve. I remember my surgeon, nutritionist, and primary care all telling me to focus on hydration first. Keep a water bottle with you all the time and just take small sips every chance you get. Then focus on the Protein. You will be ok.

KDBaker got a reaction from AnewmeRN in Barely a week post op and already stopped losing weight.
Consider putting the scale away for a month or so. Your body is recovering from major surgery. If you focus on staying hydrated, sticking to the plan your doctor gave you and resting you will be absolutely fine. I should also say that I had a relatively low BMI when I had my surgery, but I lost weight quickly. Patience and persistence are your friends.

What you're feeling is so normal after surgery. Give yourself some time. Get out for short walks. Follow your doctor's directions. Definitely seek some therapy too. It is such a vital part of your post-op care! If you feel like you can't talk to your current therapist about what's going one, find a new one that you are comfortable talking to.

KDBaker got a reaction from FluffyChix in Going for a pregnancy test today....
Good morning! I'm about 16 months out from VSG and I think I'm pregnant. Heading to my primary care for a test this afternoon. Should I ask about doing bloodwork to check my Vitamin levels? I haven't had my 1 year post op bloodwork yet because I haven't had time to schedule it and the follow up. Is there anything else I should know or ask about?

Remember why you chose this path. Is it difficult? Yeah, of course. You're having most of an organ removed and changing the way you eat forever. That's huge! But I can tell you, at about 15 months out, this is the best decision I've ever made. I'm healthier, happier, and on the completely vain side of things, I look better than I have in a while! It's all worth it. You can do this! You also have our support.

You're absolutely right. We can't use food to make us feel better anymore and actually have to feel things now. It's not fun but we can get through. I'm having to learn that not all negative feelings are bad. It's ok to have them.

I had my sleeve done in October and honestly, I still get mood swings. I'm thinking that it is because I used food to make me feel better, and now I actually have to deal with it lol! But things will definitely get better. I was very down throughout my hospital stay and didn't really feel better until 2-3 weeks after I got home. Seeing weight loss results will definitely help you feel better!

It will get better, I promise. You are only 12 days out and your body will take some time to heal. I started feeling better around 3 weeks out and back to normal energy level around 6 weeks.

I have the same dilemma. It's my only real complaint right now. I've got a bald spot near the front of my head that I hide reasonably well with headbands.
