My hubs went on a carb restricted diet when I started getting to preop things. He wanted to get healthy with me.

My surgeon clears us for sex as soon as we feel up to it.

It was nice and good for him and I both. Just talk to your husband as openly and honestly as possible about what you'd like.

Tonight I cooked dinner for my family. I made panko and Parmesan coated chicken breasts with a cream leek sauce and garlic and dill mashed potatoes.

My hubs and my daughter sat down to their plates and I sat down to my half cup of mashed cauliflower.

We joked about what Thanksgiving was going to look like, if I'd even be able to get dinner down.

I laughed with them but it hurt a little because my normal is now different.

This moment will pass as we redefine what it means to eat and to be social.

"Animal studies have convincingly proven that artificial sweeteners cause body weight gain. A sweet taste induces an insulin response, which causes blood sugar to be stored in tissues, but because blood sugar does not increase with artificial sweeteners, there is hypoglycemia and increased food intake."

"One reference showed, in patients with Type II diabetes, that the reduction of plasma glucose and insulin levels during exercise was similar after a sucrose meal compared to an aspartame-sweetened meal.[49] These results were obtained even though the aspartame meal contained 22% less calories and 10% less carbohydrates."

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3198517/

"Taste and reward signaling in the brain is immensely complex. Research is only beginning to understand how altered brain activity with prolonged use of artificial sweeteners may impact our health long-term."

    https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/mind-guest-blog/tricking-taste-buds-but-not-the-brain-artificial-sweeteners-change-braine28099s-pleasure-response-to-sweet/

There is a ton of research on sweeteners, brain chemistry and satiety.

The point is foods should be as natural as possible and sugar isn't a devil. Years of yo-yo dieting is the real problem and crap genetics.

Coah got a reaction from sheliss in 4 days into pre op diet and feeling weak...
    OP-

Everyone has a different preop diet. Your nutritionist should have given you a list of acceptable and permitted foods.

You are essentially starving. I'm almost done with my preop diet (surgery is Weds) and they tell everyone else Clear Liquids the day before but because I'm working a 12 hours shift the day before I get to have Protein Shakes as well.

If it were that easy to shrink a liver alcoholics who have fatty liver could just stop drinking for two weeks.

The real purpose is to reduce abdominal girth and put you at a lower BMI so the surgery is successful and get you used to not eating solid food since it is so critical in the early stages of the diet.

I don't looks at this as Breakfast lunch dinner etc I look at this as drink something all day so I don't fall over.

Try Tylenol for your headache and stick with the plan your doctor gave you.

There is a difference between support and enabling.

Does he live alone? Is there a significant other? What specifically is he struggling with? Has he gone to therapy? Is he seeing a therapist now?

You may not think that you're constantly over him but what is his perception? Have you asked him what he wants from you?

What troubles me the most is he should be the one on the board looking for advice and help. That would indicate true insight into his personal feeling of need for help.

They listen to me b***h on the occasion that I feel like bitching.

I don't like that they feel like they have to censor what their eating all the time around me. Life is about balance.

I think about macros and not calories.

    MyFitnessPal

I know you mean well but I think you should really back off. This was his choice and you're enabling him. There is nothing worse than feeling like your friends and family are judging everything you're eating and you in the process.

It's not like we get surgery and magically we love kale and running. I don't mean to be cheeky but at the same time if any of my friends were as involved with my life as you are with his we'd be having a long conversation about boundaries.

First I had the lap band done in January 2010, paid for it myself. I lost 115 lbs with the lap band..had it removed in July 2014 due to slippage. Gained 40 lbs in 5 months, decided to look into the sleeve that was offered through my insurance. I had sleeve in Aug 2015 & first 6 weeks to 12 weeks went well with no exercise, then the stress eating from going back to work began. I have always been a stress eater, and I do work out a lot which could have actually made this more difficult for my situation....
The first year, I had only lost 25 - 30 lbs, weight fluctuated back and forth a lot. I thought I had stretched my stomach too because I could eat all day if I spread it out. I had meal plans to follow with 800 calories per day with healthy stuff but kept getting hungry because of the exercise I had been doing. That's when the easy to pick up bag of cheese puffs began.....? Doctor I had, basically considered my surgery a "failure." He said "someone who hadn't had the surgery could have lost 25 lbs."
Jan 2017, I was 173 lbs, I had gained over holidays and enjoyed Jamaica drinks in December and my birthday cake in January ?Turning 43 years old.
After much research over this last 18 months, explaining my surgeries to people that work at supplement stores, and getting back to work with my former personal trainer, my weight is finally going back down. I stopped seeing my nutritionist like 6 months ago, it was me that had to figure out and learn the signs and symptoms of what my body needed. I also used the information given or learned on my own about sleeve, heart rate zones, Protein intake recommendations etc.
i regretted sleeve surgery, but it was too late.. I had to figure this out!!
Currently I do strength training at 5 am on M-W-F, which means i get up at 4 am.. I hate getting up early!!!!!! I work a full time job Mon through Friday and it takes 45 min each way to work. Between mon and sat, I go to gym 4 other evenings on my own time and do 25 min in sauna and 45 min on the stair master.. the sleeve is tough but be patient, learn more about your own body's needs, and keep at it..YOU WILL GET THERE!!!! I originally started at 306 lbs in Jan 2010, was 205 lbs in Aug 2015, and today 2 MARCH 2017, I weigh 164.7 lbs ?Thank you for listening... I've been looking for support groups lately because I was in desperate need..I knew I couldn't be the only one that was frustrated...GOOD JOB EVERYONE!!!???

Yep pretty much, I wrote exactly what I meant and I am glad you understood it as I wrote it.
You can't love someone more than they love themselves and you can't fix them. If her friend is eating that bad when they are watching, what do think they are doing when no one is around?
Her friend has to live in their body and they have to make the right choices.
You can take an addict to rehab but you can't make them get clean. Her friend has been to rehab and still is using.
The program that her friend is in, isn't offering the right support, and that everything in moderation idea is fail. The friend is losing right now because they are 2 months out, but by the time they are 6 months they are really going to be pigging out. It is pretty obvious her friend is not only a food addict but also has a high pain tolerance. That is the only way they can eat like that, it has to be painful. and not stop. Someone that dedicated to screwing up, is not going to stop. An intervention might actually make worse because the friend will secret eat.
She can't save her friend, her friend has to do the work.
I say this as a friend that tried to save a friend. I have a friend, well actually not anymore but that is a different topic, that had RNY about 3 year before I had the sleeve. Flash forward I am 1 year post op, and still losing and they have regained, after never even getting close to goal. I went through my entire kitchen, all my cabinets took pictures of everything I eat, provided links to stuff to buy, provided meal plans, recipes, cooked live and let them watch me cook healthy recipes. They never made it one week eating right. Eating right, losing weight isn't their priority. And this person ASKED for my help and still wasn't motivated.
You have to be highly motivated deeply on a personal level to be successful at weight loss, no one else can do it for you.
OP cannot save their friend, they are spinning their wheels. Go volunteer with the Girl Scouts, they actually want the help.

Sleeved on 3/29. Still in the hospital should discharge today. The only thing I can tolerate is herbal unsweetened tea. I had crazy nausea with narcs so I can only take Tylenol now for pain.

I walk a lot and it helps but the trapped gas is the worst.
