It's normal for 1st month, but everyone is different. Next month may not be that much, so don't get discouraged by what you may think is "slow".

Water with crystal light, coconut Water. Sports drinks tend to be high in Sugar and sodium. Water really is the best option.

It happened to me the 1st time I tried mushy food. I believe that I ate too much and too fast. I've been fine since.

If you are having this much trouble, maybe you should go back to Protein Shakes for a few days. If you can't stomach a Premier Protein ready-made shake (my favorite), then try some Isopure No-Carb mixed with Water. I didn't like that as much back when I was at that stage, but they were a little thinner than the Premier.
Meeting your Protein and water goals is key to success in this journey. Do whatever you have to do to meet these goals...
    Good luck!

This was my experience. I took it easy days one and two, but by day three, I had no problems taking normally sized swallows of liquids. I'm not gulping by any means, but not sipping either.

My ability to take in fluids rebounded really quickly after surgery. I was already drinking semi-normally after just a few weeks, while others on this forum still report difficulties after several months. You must be healing nicely which is a great thing!
    Good luck!

Stalls are really common during this journey. This won't be the last one. If you cave every time you have a stall, you won't ever be successful long term. So my advice is to just keep to your plan, meet your Protein and Water goals, and stay away from the carbs.
Aside from all of that, at 8 weeks post-op, eating a bagel could be dangerous. Please don't do it.

Didn't eating carbs and lot's of them including Bagels get us all on this forum to the point of needing to have gastric surgery and having 70-80% of our stomachs removed? If the answer to that question is yes then I think you know the answer on eating the bagel. Good luck and God Bless you!

@snapy17 - Have you taken your measurements recently? Sometimes the body changes, but the scale doesn't move. And go eat some Protein. You just sound like your hangry. Do not climb back down the carb hole.

360lyMe got a reaction from Suze58 in Liquid Diet Struggles
I was sleeved on 3/1 and had no problem with the liquid diet, but my 1st day on soft foods (3/15) was horrible. I tried a little chicken salad and wasn't able to keep it down. Any chicken is still a definite NO for me. I'll be able to eat regular foods next week, but I'm scared to have anything but tuna, boiled eggs, and Greek yogurt since I know I can keep those down and they are high in Protein.

lol, well, guess what? I'm 2.5 years post surgery and I still struggle to stay hydrated. The real point isn't that you have to drink every 15 minutes. The real point is that you need to stay hydrated. You're only screwed if you think you are. Good luck!

I get enough b-12 in my Multi-Vitamin. My NUT and Surgeon said that it is not necessary for me to take any additional, because the body can only absorb so much anyway. My labs determined that I only needed extra Calcium and a Multivitamin.

The turkey/chicken might not be soft enough for the soft food stage.
I know I was told that really fall-apart tender, moist chicken/fish would be okay.
Also, just a heads-up on the Smart Ones.... they may claim to be healthy, but Smart Ones, Healthy Choice, Weight Watchers, etc frozen meals are usually very high in carbs. Remember you want to get your Protein first and I imagine that gravy with the chicken/turkey is loaded with carbs and so are the potatoes.

I also was sleeved on Friday, and have had trouble getting fluids down. I have noticed that maybe my sips, are just too big. When I take sips barely wetting my mouth, it doesnt hurt as much. Today I just came home and its starting to feel a little better. Hope you feel better soon.

First I had the lap band done in January 2010, paid for it myself. I lost 115 lbs with the lap band..had it removed in July 2014 due to slippage. Gained 40 lbs in 5 months, decided to look into the sleeve that was offered through my insurance. I had sleeve in Aug 2015 & first 6 weeks to 12 weeks went well with no exercise, then the stress eating from going back to work began. I have always been a stress eater, and I do work out a lot which could have actually made this more difficult for my situation....
The first year, I had only lost 25 - 30 lbs, weight fluctuated back and forth a lot. I thought I had stretched my stomach too because I could eat all day if I spread it out. I had meal plans to follow with 800 calories per day with healthy stuff but kept getting hungry because of the exercise I had been doing. That's when the easy to pick up bag of cheese puffs began.....? Doctor I had, basically considered my surgery a "failure." He said "someone who hadn't had the surgery could have lost 25 lbs."
Jan 2017, I was 173 lbs, I had gained over holidays and enjoyed Jamaica drinks in December and my birthday cake in January ?Turning 43 years old.
After much research over this last 18 months, explaining my surgeries to people that work at supplement stores, and getting back to work with my former personal trainer, my weight is finally going back down. I stopped seeing my nutritionist like 6 months ago, it was me that had to figure out and learn the signs and symptoms of what my body needed. I also used the information given or learned on my own about sleeve, heart rate zones, Protein intake recommendations etc.
i regretted sleeve surgery, but it was too late.. I had to figure this out!!
Currently I do strength training at 5 am on M-W-F, which means i get up at 4 am.. I hate getting up early!!!!!! I work a full time job Mon through Friday and it takes 45 min each way to work. Between mon and sat, I go to gym 4 other evenings on my own time and do 25 min in sauna and 45 min on the stair master.. the sleeve is tough but be patient, learn more about your own body's needs, and keep at it..YOU WILL GET THERE!!!! I originally started at 306 lbs in Jan 2010, was 205 lbs in Aug 2015, and today 2 MARCH 2017, I weigh 164.7 lbs ?Thank you for listening... I've been looking for support groups lately because I was in desperate need..I knew I couldn't be the only one that was frustrated...GOOD JOB EVERYONE!!!???

I think you need to get in to talk to your nutritionist asap.
When I was at 12 weeks post op, my nutritionist said my calories needed to be around 700-750 a day. That was at 12 weeks, and you are only 3 weeks post op. You are getting in way too many calories for where you are at post op right now. I am 4 and a half months out and eat 800 calories a day.
Also, keeping the carbs down will help. I agree that lean meats like fish and chicken would be best right now.
Protein Bars may not be the best choice as most of them are high in calories.
Lean meats and NON starchy vegetables are your best choice. I also like to keep my Protein up around 100 grams a day. The higher protein, the fuller you will feel. The more carbs you eat, the hungrier you will be.
Your nutritionist could really help guide you and show you some good things right now.

I'm not sure what your doctor is allowing at this point as far as your diet (since every doctor is different), but at 3 weeks post op I couldn't have eaten the ground beef or the Protein bar because I wouldn't have been able to get it down. I was eating soft foods during that stage. At 3 months out now, I'm eating 800-1000 calories daily, sometimes more if I'm walking long distances. My suggestion would be to watch your carbs, try to keep them under 20-25, and go for lean meats like chicken and fish. I live off grilled mahi fish tacos now, using smart carb tortillas (only 4 grams a serving). I wouldn't worry about the gain but I would for sure watch your calories at this early on and make sure you are advancing at the rate your doctor advises. Also you shouldn't be hungry that early on, it's possible you are experiencing acid in your stomach so you might consider talking with your doctor about a PPI or Zantac. Good luck to you!
