charlies.angel reacted to lkcnewbeginnings in Anyone getting sleeve but have 60lbs or less to loose?
I had vsg Dec 5th. I had a total of 55 lbs to lose. I don't regret it. Down 27 lbs. I've always struggled with weight even though I worked out a lot and ate right most of the time. I needed this extra tool.

I had vsg 1/14. The surgeon used a 40 bougie. I am maintain but have to watch my diet constantly. Low carb high Protein and 1200 calories or less. 1500 calories and I gain weight. Getting the weight off was easy. Maintanence more difficult. I'm hungry a lot however I like what I see on the mirror so i feel it's worth it. I ve been logging food for about 5 yrs. it's the only way I can be successful.

A friend went to Mexico (A lighter me) she had a great experience and no issues. However I would be too paranoid to do that just in case something goes wrong.

If my insurance covered it. I would definitely wait. However, since mine does not by my employers exclusion. I am self pay. I have bounced back and forth on Mexico or local. Like Woo Woo said ...something comforting about having my surgeon local.

Thanks for responding. I am very discplined with my eating and working out but as mentioned i have to extremely regimented to see any change and when i do it's so small. Tired of the yo yo. I definitely do not think this is the easy way out, i am using as a tool to help me do what i have been unable to do on my own.
    So when is your surgery??

charlies.angel got a reaction from hats123 in Anyone with a low BMI (30-33) had sleeve surgery or will be?
I have struggled with my weight for over 25 years. At 4'10" with a BMI of 37, I have about 80 pounds to lose and keep off to be healthy. I could probably lose half of it, but I'd have to starve myself. It just doesn't come off. Then it creeps back on. I can not maintain the goal weight. That's where this surgery will really help me long term, with maintenance. This is my last resort after years of yo yo dieting with poor results.

I am schedule to have my sleeve around 2:30. I'm quite emotional because I am here by myself. My husband is at work and the kids get out of school around that time so it made sense for him to tend to them since I will be spending the night. My dad dropped me off at the hospital but because I choose to only tell my husband about the surgery, he didn't stay. So much going on in my head right now and tears watering my eyes. Praying for all those going through surgery today. I don't question my decision about not telling anyone. The emotions are for the unknown that I will face in a couple of hours and moving forward.

Tomorrow night is my sleep study, followed by my 3rd visit to the surgeon Monday, and my first nutrition consult Tuesday. I've already got my pulmonary clearance, and 3 required bariatric support group meetings under my belt. [emoji4] I'm almost halfway there and finally feeling like I'm moving in the right direction!

If I were going to get a Bible verse inscribed on a Portion Control plate, I would have no choice but to put 1 Corinthians 6:13 on it, even though it does not qualify as my favorite verse.
"food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other.
The King James is even better, but I am partial to the KJV.
meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them.
If I went with my favorite verse, it would be Job 19:25-26
For I know that my redeemer liveth,
and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God. I would write good luck, but I am a Calvinist, and do not believe in luck. May the LORD bless you in your efforts to lose weight and become healthier.

I'm sorry you're going through this at a time you need so much love and support. The bright side is the fact that this surgery will give you both years to your life and the energy to deal with things. It's a common theme: women give their entire lives to husbands and kids and when they finally decide to do something for themselves, the family can't handle the change. Stay strong.

I have no issues in telling people how I lost 319lbs. I also have no issues in admitting that I had lost control of my life and needed drastic change and intervention..anyone who judges me for taking back control does not deserve a second of my time. Don't be ashamed.

In the beginning just my wife and a friend from work knew. Now it has gotten out to a few more people at work since I told the Nurse Manager that I need a month off after surgery. Also, my mom asked me outright and I had to tell her. Eh, I just don't want to deal with all the nay-sayers and the unwanted advice. A few are supportive but I frequently get the "Are you SURE you want to do surgery? You're already doing so well on your own." That one really pushes my buttons and drives me INSANE. Or the whole "why are you taking the easy way out?" Yes, I've already lost 42lbs but I started at 361 and am currently 319 at 5'6". I still have a long way to go. And as far as the easy way out.. yeah getting sliced open, being on a liquid diet, having to re-learn eating and re-structure your relationship with food AND deal with nay-sayers and lack of support.. yeah that's the real easy way out

I will only be telling My husband, my dad, & a very close friend, (she was so excited for me she told 2 good friends of hers before she knew I was keeping it a secret). I don't know if I will tell my mom, she can be judgmental. None of my in-laws will ever know. No one else will probably ever know, including my very good friend. She is totally against WLS & has never known a fat day in her life.

Afraid of needles, with extremely small veins so I had to be poked several times until they found it.
All and all though, this was the least memorable part of the surgery. I knew getting paid meds and fluids was a priority so I was happy once they'd fixed the IV
