Thank you all for chiming in. I think I'm going to get me some good ole turkey Jerky and see how my girl ( my sleeve) likes that.

I lost all my hair long before surgery - as in, I started balding by the time I was 19. Do like me and wear a hat. Besides, chicks dig that Jean Luc Picard look. As for extra skin, it is a reality. How much is hard to say. It is better than staying fat.

My husband knows, my mom (who had lap band 6 years ago) and 1 close friend. I'm a stay at home mom, so I don't have to worry about the workplace dilemma, and my husband works from home, so he'll be here to support me. As far as for me, It's Nobody else's business.

I'm using Dr. Lee at South Shore Bariatrics, Long Island NY. He and the hospital are local to me, I loved his personality and outlook when I met him initially at his seminar. He also has years of bariatric surgery experience

If she was only your boss and not also your friend hopefully professionalism would prevent her from asking you what the surgery is for, since it's not appropriate. Since you're friends, care for you might prompt her to ask. It's often an automatic response. You could just ask for the time off for personal leave, and not disclose upfront that it's for a surgery. I think it's perfectly fine to tell her it's for a routine hernia repair if you feel the need to tell her the time off is for surgery, and to provide an explanation of it. It's a fib, but one to maintain personal privacy and ward off concern, so I wouldn't put that on the same scale as a major lie. It would also help with her curiosity about your weight loss in the future. I told a friend the scars were from hernia surgery when she spotted them in the split second before I pulled a tee shirt over my swimsuit at the beach and asked a bit loudly. Heads turned around to look at me. We were there for beach volleyball, and I certainly wasn't about to reveal something so personal to a crowd. Everyone accepted it was due to a hernia, and moved on. That was that. I had the VSG in August of 2015 and to date the only ones who know are my doctors, parents, and husband. I am not a private person in all matters, but when it comes to my personal health I tend to be. I am very at peace with this decision.
    Best of luck to you!

I had gotten sick about 2yrs ago. I had c–diff. It landed me in the hospital for 4 days and I lost about 20lbs from it. It's an infection in your intestines. I'm going to tell my co–workers who are major assholes that I just got sick again. I don't want to hear the comments or questions. I've watched 4 other people from work go through it and I don't need that kind of negativity in my life lol

I was thinking about saying that I needed to have a portion of my bowel removed. My coworkers won't ask, but if I have a "mystery surgery", then loose 80 pounds in 6 months, they will know. The bowel issues could explain the weight loss to follow. I have a BMI of 37 and want my surgery to be private.

Oh sweety! You both sound like incredibly giving and unselfish people. Maybe just tell hubby that right now, your knees hurt too much.
All my pains, ailments, stressors virtually went away when I had my surgery. NO lie - 2 weeks after my surgery I was able to move better - and just easily. Find comfort in knowing that VERY soon - you will be riding along your hubby in his pretty new truck and his pretty healthy wife sitting next to him. xoxo

Be careful with the alcohol this close out. Let your new stomach heal. There will be plenty of time for fun stuff like that in a while after you've completely healed.

I didn't tell anyone about my surgery. Only my husband and daughter know. Of all people my preop nurse worked with my husband prn at his job lol but she's not telling. I chose to keep mine a secret because I didn't want anyone's opinion or gossip about my life. No friends no family... I told my director I needed surgery... she only asked me was I going to be okay. It's between me and Human Resources about how long and why. Been yo yo dieting for years to end back at 250lbs. Had open heart surgery last year as a result of aortic dissection I needed a drastic change. Nobody's business unless I choose it to be.

I am not telling anyone either, just husband and friend in the town I have to fly to in order to have it done. I am doing what you are with wearing baggy clothes and posting about my workouts, and I have started eating smaller portions 4 times a day.
This is when it becomes about US!!

It's your journey! No one needs to know. I'm with you. I only told my husband, good friend and one sister. People aren't educated enough and that's why I only told these three people. I did tell one person that I was having a hernia removed and that I have poor eating habits and it's a new year so I'm changing that. I started Protein shakes again last week twice a day and one sensible meal and I've actually lost weight. I only have a two day liquid diet my surgery is Wednesday January 11. I told work that I'm having a procedure and will be out a week.
    Again it's your journey!

Many months before I had the surgery, I had a bad experience with telling someone I worked with. Her reaction colored my experience. People knew something was going on because I had a million appointments. I have other medical issues, though, so who knows! Anyhow, I told two work friends and my boss. I also had a hiatal hernia from an old lap band (2006) that I needed repaired. So, for people I didn't want to tell, I just said that. I've been telling people I'm eating high Protein and low carb if they ask. Monday will be three weeks for me and I'm going to start back with my exercise routine as soon as my left side soreness subsides, so I will be able to talk about that too. However, this is deeply personal and I don't think you have to tell anyone if you don't want to.

I have been going out to eat a LOT lately as my new place is under so much construction that food-prep there isn't really an option. I had to clean for 20 minutes last night just to be able to make a cup of coffee! So here are some things I've had recently:
Denny's: The one egg, one meat, french toast option off the senior's menu (I'm not a senior, but they don't care). I ate the egg and one sausage link and half the piece of french toast. I'm over 2 years post-op. Would definitely not have touched the french toast at all the first year!
Red Robin: Chili! I get chili almost anywhere that has it, because I love it, it is pretty much pure Proteins, and you can just order a cup. I never finish a whole cup, but I can get close enough to not arouse any suspicion.
TGIF: Jack Daniels chicken Sandwich. Ordered it without the bun or veggies. Ate about 2/3 of the chicken, none of the bacon (I sometimes have trouble with pork if I eat it at the same time as other meat), ALL of the cheese (love cheese!), maybe two of the onion straws and maybe 4 small french fries.
Cheesecake Factory: Louisiana Chicken Pasta. I ate most of one piece of chicken and took the other piece home. Ate literally two bowtie noodles (probably should have just asked for it without the pasta). And I ate ALL of the mushrooms out of that bad boy!
Most of the time I will just order the food without the rice/pasta/bread, but sometimes that really confuses people or messes them up, so I will get the carb and just not eat it. Like try going to a sub shop and ordering your sub with no bread.... doesn't go over so well. So I will get the whole sub and then just eat the meat and cheese out of it. You really have to get comfortable with "wasting" food. For some people that is REALLY hard. But you have to do it.

I made a post similar to this one a few months ago and someone suggested to remove the metal with plastic.... I haven't had my surgery yet but I think I'll give that a go if my doctor always it because my piercings almost closed on me after a day out.

I'll put it this way- I have multiple piercings below the neck, but not my belly button. Any clue if these will need to be removed for surgery?

I can so relate to you. I am 4ft 11 1/2 in and weigh 187. I feel i have to justify to everyone why i want to do this. I am so sick and tired of everyone telling me i don't need this as i also carry my weight in the right places. A weight gain of 5lbs on me looks the same as a 15lb weight gain on a taller person. Tired of the yo yo. I am telling my job i am going on vacation. Taking 10 days off but it's more like 14 if u include the weekend. Surgery is April 13th.

I'm 5'2 and was 221. I had my surgery dec 13th and am already down 22lbs. I've had the same struggle with JC / WW and working out. They never seemed to help me understand how much food to eat with working out. So I just got down and depressed and just kept eating and stopped working out which is how I got to 221. In just the 3+ weeks since my surgery I'm so excited to get back to the gym (in a few more weeks). I finally can eat the quantity I need and the right kind of foods (thanks to nutritionist) and exercise. I'm so looking. Forward to my progress and I know I'll hit my 60 in no time.
